Please! I do hope none of you thought I was CRITICIZING Gail's message to us, the lists. I sure was not, even though when I reread it, I guess it might look that way to some. I thought Gail was more or less wanted to know what the lists thought of the Cowan posts........especially , using the lists to make money . So, after reading all the messages, I can see why some are offended and , you may be right, but by no means was I being critical of dear , sweet, beloved, kind, thoughtful, (slurp, slurp......grovel , grovel ), generous, caring Gail! I was just saying this: It is ok with me for Cowan to post. And, it still is. But then, thats me. I asked for response, and I was glad to see every ones considerations. Obviously, those responding to the subject, weighed it and gave their honest opinion. That is what is important- so that Gayle can decide how she would like to go on this matter. Thanks RoseMary, when I made the decision to post Robert's message it was only because if there was some information in his work that might be of help to someone, I did not want to be the one that held back info that someone might really need but I just wanted everyone to know how he operated with a lot of mail lists and that he did charge for his info. He has been very pleasant with me, when I told him that this list was closed. I have NO problems with him but I just have to abide by the rules set forth when we become list administrators. So when I posted the message, which I could have deleted, I just wanted everyone to know. My Alexander mail list is one that he posted to and then unsubbed and then the next thing Joe Blow is asking for a lookup in his work.. well, we know that he is not going to do that... he wasn't there anymore. Everyone has to make their own decision about him and his work and if it is valuable to them, then they can contact him and proceed. If it is not valuable to anyone, they can do what I did, hit the delete button. I like so many others have found information and I believe in sharing not charging. If there is mega copying to be made at 5 cents a copy, I believe you said that you got 147 pages, that adds up to $7.35 plus postage and most people are willing to share the cost of copying and postage to get the info. But, what I see is he made about $15.00 on your transaction. I don't know that I have ever asked to be reimbursed for my copying and time and postage as I am willing to share my info and I hope that others will share theirs too and I give them the credits in my work. Many, many people have sent me info and never asked for money and so I feel guilty if I ask for money. You get what you give in life and I get just as much satisfaction helping someone link to their lines and helping them move forward and I get excited when ever I get just a new date to add to my work. Yesterday, I received an email asking if I had any information on this man's line. I had some, but not all that he was looking for, BUT my greatest satisfaction out of our email's was I was able to tell him that he had a 4th cousin living in the town that he lived in and that he should contact her and together they may be able to work on the info that he needed. If he feels like sharing dates with me fine, if not, I got the chance to help someone and also to introduce him to a cousin he did not know he had. That makes my day!! Gail
