The books are free of charge. There have been many who have made free will donations and they are accepted but certainly that is not my purpose at all and they are definitely not required. I have had interested people donate information since 1971, mainly to our family genealogy of Joseph Killgore, and this information contains many hand me downs from generations long gone. This particular book is a foray into an area of more recent effort but invlolves everyone knopwn to have Kilgour ancestors. As such I came across considerable information that I believe will be helpful to kilgour researchers going forward and it will be to them to further the cause, refine it, add to it, and revise it as they see fit. So, it is my way of saying thank you to all our common ancestors and to the many others who thoughtfully have maintained a family interest for those so interested of future generations. Your book will go out today. Roy E. Killgore Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My MtDNA results did however confirm my Gilliam/Stidham roots back to the mid 1750's. Facebook has an excellent group, "Echoes From the Past" ,managed by a 5g grandson of Robin. This group has at least 5-10 descendants of Robin. I'll try to figure out how to post a plea for YDNA and MtDNA testing. The descendants include @ least 2 descendants of Robin's daughters; Susannah (m Peter Bays) & Nancy (m David Alley). MtDNA tests of mother-mother-mother descendants of Robin's daughters COULD provide confirmation of paper trails back to Jane/Jean Porter. Similarly MtDNA tests of Robin's sister's maternal descendants COULD provide confirmation of paper trails back to at-least Winnie. I say "could" because it's contingent on building a good data base. Along with my facebook plea, I'll also post on the Scott Co genforum & Sullivan Co, TN genforum where so many Scott Co. cousins migrated in the early 30's for jobs in Kingsport, the "City of Industry". Based on Gabriel Lea Kilgore's letter, I have four PROBABLES: (1) Thomas [c1745-1822] of Robertson Co, (2) your Charles [c1740-1783], (3) William of GA, & (4) Ralph. Based on the 36/37 match between (I think) your brother & a descendent of Stephen [1767-1841], s/o Robert/Winney, I would add Robert [c1735-1782], Winnie's spouse as a 5th probable. Gut judgement leads me to add two POSSIBLES, Hiram & James. Incidentally DNA results to me are a little clearer if I substitute "years" instead of "generations" to define the Most Likely Estimate (MLE) for the time when the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) would have lived, FTDNA in their definition of terms say they use 25 yrs/generation. In their package with results, they say their population geneticist feels that 25-30 years best expresses a typical generation in post dark age periods. The 90% probability of 8 generations for a 36/37 match equates to 200-240 yrs. Thanks again for your reply. Author: VICKIE7293 Surnames: Kilgore Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kilgore/1647.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I think that the 1858 letter from Gabriel Lea Kilgore to the Thompson Journals may hold the key to the brothers. It stated that Thomas Kilgore Jr (md Phoebe Lea) was the s/o Thomas Kilgore died 1822 Robertson Co TN whose brothers were listed as Charles, William & Ralph and that their father unnamed (but apparently not named Thomas) had come to MD or PA some 200 years before 1858. I think that time frame of 200 years is subjective. We now know from DNA evidence that William Kilgore died Augusta Co GA is closely associated with Charles Kilgore died 1823. No male descendant of Thomas Kilgore died 1822 has yet submitted DNA. The letter also stated that it was Thomas Kilgore Jr died 1857 Columbia Co AR who "lost a brother at King's Mountain fighting alongside him". I suspect this may have been the Hiram listed by G. W. Kilgore. I think that whatever Judge G. W. Kilgore found, it was a mangle version of either this letter or info submitted to a local genealogy book by a des! cendant of Thomas Kilgore. DNA evidence also seems to point to Thomas Kilgore of Cecil Co MD (married Rebecca Lasley) as sharing a grandfather with Charles Kilgore or possibly a great-grandfather. I now suspect that Thomas Kilgore of MD may have been a brother of the Robert Kilgore of 1755 tax list whom I believe was the f/o Charles died 1823 Greene Co TN, Thomas died 1822 Robertson Co TN and William & Ralph Kilgore died before 1800 Augusta District GA. Note: Robert Kilgore (died 1782) not mentioned by Gabriel Lea Kilgore and Thomas Kilgore not mentioned by Judge G. W. Kilgore as one of the"5 brothers". I've been tracking over the years the selfless contributions of Vickie, John, Gail, & Jerry-- just to mention a few. I've tentatively placed Robert II (c1735) my 5ggrandfather, Charles (c1740), William ( ?? ) & Hiram (c1740) as "Probables" with James ( ?? ) & Thomas (husband of Lydia ?) as "Possibles" of six brothers. Using Jerry's naming customs, if Thomas was the oldest son, then I would put an elder Thomas (P) as one candidate for father of the brothers. A second candidate could be the Robert (P) who shows up in the 1755 Orange Co. tax list & may have been the one recommended to be exempt from public taxes in Orange Co. in May 1765. You all have come a long way in the last 10 or so years, correcting Judge Kilgore's writings & now putting DNA to work to maybe move that brick wall back a little bit. Hi Mary. I am interested in learning if any more information is available about the connections between the Kilgore's in Plant City, Florida and the Kilgore's in Texas such as Henry M. Madison's widow is still living and is remarried and their two sons are Don Kilgore, who is a retired Judge and John Kilgore who is a doctor here in Plant City. This family has been plagued with scandal and has really taken its toll on Madison's widow. For a long time I was convinced that this was not my line but I have had to rethink this because we are related. I would have to take time to go back and retrace exactly where Henry descends but I was able to do that last year and know that he is a descendant of James SR. You never know where you will find relatives so don't do like I did and assume that there is no relationship. Hope that this helps some of you. Mary I know that both you and Dot Garrison live and have family in TX. so this may be off your line. Cindy, I have returned after a long period to work on the genealogy of my Kilgore line. In your message dated August 4, 2001, you indicated that you might have information on the line of Henry M. Kilgore born at Ratcliff, Texas. Any such information would be a big help and greatly appreciated. He recieved his education in Texas and came to Fl. in 1902, residing first at Bartow, Fl. where he lived for 3 years. In 1905 he moved to Tampa and 5 years later changed his residence to Plant City, at which time he established Kilgore Seed Co.. almost every seed used in Fl. was handled, also bee-keeping supplies, crate material, fertilizer, poulty supplies and so forth. He also did his part in civicaffairs, and in this connection he was a director in the East Hillsborough Co. Chamber of Commerce, alsoa director of Hillsborough State Bank and a member of the Plant City Kiwanis Club. He was married in Tampa on the 7th of March, 1904 to Flossie Z. I personally know Madison's (deseased) wife and his sons. We were in the same Bpt. church at one time. The sons are John M. Kilgore M.D. and Don Kilgore, Atty. I will have to go back through my charts to find out what line Henry's dad comes off of. Hope this is helpful to you. If you need any info on my line let me know. Cindy
