This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: aandrewolson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kilgore/731.1.1.1.1.2.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Kilgore and VanMatre family (and Delaware County to which I refer) is located in East-Central Indiana. With regard to my earlier posting, I think I understand the situation surrounding Mary G. VanMatre Kilgore (born Oct. 24, 1814). She was the daughter of Absalom VanMatre (born before 1786, son of Joseph Van Meter [born after 1744 in VA] and Elizabeth Aikens.; see: http://genforum.genealogy.com/vanmeter/messages/316.html) and Tabitha Harris VanMatre. Absalom must have died while Mary was an infant. My sense is that her Uncle, Joseph VanMatre, and his wife raised her. Can this be verified? I don't think Bob was being serious - the emoticon :-) (which is read as a sideways smiley face) after his statement indicates that he knows what he said was silly. No need to heap opprobrium just for a joke. One of the things I like about this mailing list is the banter and silly jokes. Let's not kill that. That said, Gail's spot on about priorities; I'll bet Bob agrees with her. Thank you JK, you were correct. Some of us need to loosen up a bit. I was playing on Ancestry.com with Nancy's ancestors the Alleys and got lineage back to the year 1000 with pictures and castles and such. Wish I could do that with Kilgore. Is all this Kilgore lineage put on Ancestry.com? Even the short links. There may be people out there that can fill in the blanks. It's amazing how many people are copying things from my tree and I copy from theirs. Love ya all. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: aandrewolson Surnames: Kilgore/Van Matre Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.kilgore/731.1.1.1.1.2.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Grandfather's, Benjamin Marshall Nelson Sr's, mother was Orlina Kilgore, granddaughter of Judge David Kilgore. I have been doing some recent regarding his wife, Mary G. Van Matre. In "The History of Delaware County" by T.B. Helm, published in 1881, and specifically a chapter entitled "Mt. Pleasant Township", the author talks about Joseph Van Matre (who entered a portion of Section 20 within the Township in 1823)...mentioning that at the time of publication only three of Joseph Van Matre's children were still alive, and stating that one of those was "his stepdaughter, Mrs. David Kilgore". This leads me to believe Joseph Van Matre had been married before and that Mary had been born to his first wife. Do you know if this is the case, and if so, the name of Joseph's first wife (specifically her madien name) so that I might follow her family history? Is there a way for the person in control of the web site to create a portion of it that would require an email when leaving guest book entries?
