There are two (at least) Samuel Kilgores who could be your man, each of them was a descendant of Elijah Kilgore, b. abt. 1815, in TN, died in GA in 1891. I think it is likely that the Samuel you seek was the son of Jefferson Davis Kilgore, and a grandson of Elijah Kilgore. Jefferson Davis Kilgore himself was murdered. This Samuel was said to have been the meanest man on the planet, and went to jail for throwing a man from a moving train. This according to information told to me at a Kilgore family reunion in Trenton GA in early 2000s. No other proof of that legend was offered by the family, as I don't think they were particularly proud of this great uncle of theirs. The other Samuel was said to have also been a grandson of Elijah Kilgore (1815-1891), and he married a Rogers. Hope this helps, though it's not a happy message to deliver. Sorry. Looks like discussion of Josiah Thompson's journals surfaced at least as far back as Oct. 2000 in the Kilgore-L Archives. One of those articles described Josiah as a coal baron obsessed wth his family history who would do anything to uncover a new cou. Altogether he wrote 27 journal's before he died in 1933. Jack T.

I have a James Robt, (c1859-1938), s/o David (c1834-1818) & Margaret Ann "Peggy" Powers. David showed up in various census' born anywhere from 1832-1839 & in at least one census James Robt was listed as Robert. His dad, David was s/o Robt Kilgore (1791-1877) & Elizabeth Gray and gs/o Rev. Robt "Robin" Kilgore & Jane "Jean" Porter. I found records of 2 wives of James Robt-- Hanna Hartsock (m 1885) and Eliza California "Callie" Hartsock (m 1893). With his death in 1938 its possible he had a 3rd wife named Nancy. Since there are so many Robts & James R's ot there, I would take this James R. with a grain of salt. However, If you have names/ages/spouses of any of his kids, that would help to pin down whether this is indeed your Robt. Good luck in your searches Jack Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Literally thousands of people contributed thousands of hours over three centuries to provide what is in volumes I & II of "Descendants of Joseph Killgore of Scotland". The "Origins of Kilgour" narrative history is a shared history and I am happy to be able to give these books away. Many have given a free will donation and they are appreciated but are not solicited, no one should feel a sense of obligation, and I have been blessed many times over already by the experience.
