I don't know where all the questions marks came from. They are all correct information of my grandparents, etc. in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth. I forgot to add that Samuel was the son of James Kilgore, Sr. of Darlington Dist. S.C. Dorothy Britt Garrison dandbgarrison@att.net
The Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas is on my maternal line. My grandmother was born in Ellis Co., Tx. Her father was Alney D. Kilgore born in MS. His father was M.T.G Kilgore, son of Samuel Kilgore. In the obit of Samuel Kilgore who was born in S.C. it says "Departed this life on Sat the 24th of Jan 1857, at the residence of his son, M.T.G. Kilgore in Ellisville, Jones County, in MS. in the 70th year of his age, Samuel Kilgore. The deceased was a native of Darlington Dist. S.C. He lived there until the bloom of manhood, when he went from there to Louisville, Ky. where he remained but a short time. He removed from there to Jones Co. in MS in the year of 1814, where remained up to the time of his death." Do you suppose he went to see relatives? Dorothy Britt Garrison
As far as I know, I am not. The only Kilgore in my genealogy is one A. Smith Kilgore who died in Upshur County, Texas before 1860. This person was somehow related to Willis Kilgore who came to East Texas about 1848. Kilgore, Texas, was named for C. B. "Buck" Kilgore who was Willis Kilgore's son. It is possible that the Kilgores in Mt. Olivet were also descendants of Willis Kilgore. These people migrated to Texas from Georgia. Dorothy: I have only traced my Kilgore ancestors back to Missouri, with a note that one in the line was born in Kentucky. Someone gave me a hint of one generation farther back that may have been in North Carolina. That is is pretty short tree. I have followed the L-Kilgore correspondence in Rootsweb for 6 or 8 years or more. I see that there are many people with "brick walls" on the list. I have printed and retained the bulk of this correspondence that included names, dates and locations. I gather that there may have been a VA to NC to KY and GA, or to TX and NM, besides some that came from KY to MO and IN. So I generally assume the Georgia and Texas lines are not helpful to my search. There were a lot of Kilgores in Missouri -- in Boone County and other locations. Then I gather there were Kilgores in Pennsylvania that passed through Missouri and Indiana. But my thin info from a fully identified Kilgore in Missouri has the note that he came from Kentucky. I hope this makes sense to you. My ancestor was Andrew Thomas Kilgore "b. 1804 in KY, d. in Oregon 29 FEb. 1888". He married Alba Winscott (or Wainscott) in Boone Co., MO 18 Jun 1829. Alba was also born in KY in 1805. They had seven children, the first two of whom were born in Lafayette Co., MO. The youngest of the seven was William Kilgore who was born in Decatur Co., IA in 1850. Andrew had siblings whose first names were Isham, Balies and John C. respectively. Another person on the list suggested that Andrew's father may have been a Johnston Kilgore born in NC whose father's name was Thomas. I have no further confirmation that these names are correct, but I am going with them until I find better information. I am always glad to hear from anyone with further bits of information. Don't know if you have seen these maps. After taking a look, I see Culpepper is next to Spotsylvania. Those Kilgores surely moved around. They traveled from Lancaster, possibly on the river.
