    1. Re: [KILGORE] Military Record Site
    2. Thanks...I really appreciate all of your help...it's encouraging. Something just "hit" me. Bear with me here while I explain this, ok? :) Half of my family heritage I know nothing about. My mother (Shirley Harris b. 1935) met a French Canadian named "Gil Vachon" in Portland Oregon (about 1956-1957)...not sure of the spelling when she was young. She became pregnant and when she told him, he panicked and disappeared for a short while. In the interim, another guy who was in love with her offered to marry her and rescue her reputation and so she married him. What she didn't know was that this "Gil Vachon" had tried to reach her a few weeks later through her parents and they told him to "hit the curb" and never come back. I learned about this when I was about 16. Ok. The only Gil Vachon (could be Gilles Vachon, Vashon, Gilford, etc.) that I can locate, that would match the approximate correct age, living here in the United States lives where? According to my internet searches: Casa Grande, Arizona. I keep hitting a brick wall because apparently he lives in a mobile home park or it is a "winter" home and I only have the address, not the name of the place and the units/homes are numbered. The number address is not listed and the telephone is disconnected. My attempts to contact the few other "Vachon's in and near Casa Grande have been met with silence. sigh.... Anyway, I don't know if you would be interested or able to do a little sleuthing around. It would mean a lot to me to be able to locate and meet this man and find out about the other side of my family tree. The man who did marry my mother turned out to unfortunately suffer from severe schizophrenia and became an alcoholic. She fled from the marriage when I was about 4 years old. He never considered me to be his daughter. I may be out of town until Sunday...won't know until my husband gets out of bed. :) What do you think? Do you have any ideas? gratefully, Carmel

    3. Tom, Thanks for sending this in. As I understand it he moved to Ark. or was living in Ark. in 1872, then in 1874? Would he be the son of Capt. Benjamin Kilgore's son, Hugh, that moved to Audrian Co., Mo. in 1827? I find this interesting, My gggrandfather Jonathan Kilgore was in Fannin Co. TX in 1849, he left a son there, John Jay Killgore, then he went to Ark., in the early 1850's, Benton Co.. My Kilgore's did spell their name Killgore at one time. 3. Hello Frank: This sounds like it might fit my gr. grandmother, Mary A. Kilgore she died 1914 no one mentioned how she died, only that she lingered. Mary I was told by my Mother, was full blood Cherokee Indian. Her husband was Joseph Preston Kilgore. I have a picture of him and his family. Mary is buried in Battiest, OK. in the Indian cemetery , Mc Curtain county. Would you please tell me where you got the information. All help is greatly appreciated. 1. [KILGORE] Eldorado, IL
    2. Are there any cousins living in the Eldorado or Harrisburg, IL area out there? I have found on the web where a Mary A. Killgore came to her death by accidently being thrown from a wagon, producing two skull (?) from which she died 32 hours later. This happened June 22, 1914. Believe the ? was probably fractures but could not be read. I have some questions such as what county is this, please e-mail me personally, Thanks, Frank Killgore

    3. Connie I tried to get the death certificate of my grand aunt who died in Virginia in 1992. I sent my check and said it was for genealogy reasons. They would not issue it to me unless I was immediate family. Their state law is no public death certificates until 50 years after the death. Isn't that ridiculous? 2. I am sorry I can not help you but i have run into a brick wall myself. My gr. grandfather Joseph Prestn Kilgore was born in Alabama but I have been unable to find his parents. On some census he was born in 1848 but it might have been earlier. Month of birth is March. He married a full blood cherokee indian Martha(Mary) A. Milton her b. 1850 she was born in Arkansas.

    1. Re: [KILGORE] Proof of Relation
    2. Hi Jeanette, Usually, proof of relationship is not required as most of the information at the court house is supposed to fall under the "Freedom of Information Act" unless protected by a higher law (adoption and some divorces and marriages). I, personally, ran into the same situation while trying to get a death certificate from Arizona. I copied my family group sheets and sent a copy of my drivers license to prove who I am. When I originally wrote and requested a copy, they sent me a letter with a form to fill out that stated I had to prove who I was. They accepted the group sheet, etc. NORMALLY, they want to know the relationship and do not ask for proof. Arizona was the only instance for me, but I know others have had similar requests from other areas. Have a great day and lots of luck in your research. Connie Latta

    3. Boy! I have never run across that one! I just say I want the records for Genealogy reasons or if I need it, tell my relationship, such as GGGG granddaughter. I have never had any one question it. I think the only time you need proof is if the person you are looking for could still be alive, such as a birth record of your parents., etc..
