Hi, A couple of things going on AGAIN!! ;-) I had a complaint that there is too much "chat" on the genealogy mail list. I will say no more. I have a lot of people who posted to the mail list that were either bounced off or are "not subscribers" and I hate to let the information go by the wayside so I will be forwarding those in just a minute. Please do not respond to me but to the person who wrote the email. I have a lot of people trying to subscribe to the mail list but when I tell them it is a closed mail list they disappear.???? Heh, you have a good day!! Gail Meÿer Kilgore Casa Grande, AZ

Hi, I have a whole bunch of you over the past two + weeks that have posted and the messages have bounced to me. Either you have sent the message from another email address and it did not post to the list but bounced or you have changed your email address and it is bouncing to me and not going to the list. If you post from a remote computer you cannot post to the list. You must post from the email address that you are subbed to the list on. Gail Meÿer Kilgore Casa Grande, AZ
According to "South Carolina Indians, Indian Traders & Other Ethnic Connections Beginning in 1670" by Hicks an Indian trader named James Adair had a son named John Adair who married (1) Ga-ho-ga and (2) Jennie Kilgore (an Indian). It gives no dates; however James was actively trading as early as 1743. It states that he traded with Western Cherokees in Tenness and also with Catawbas in 1743. After his return from London in 1775, he settled in North Carolina. James died in Robeson Co (?? I didn't copy this page) in 1780. So his son, John Adair would have been born at least anytime between 1743 and 1780.
Cuzzin Dennie, If you really want to go, I suggest a trip to Cancun first. It's not too expensive. See Chichen Itza, Tulum, and maybe Uxmal. The next step up, and very primitive, is a trip to Tikal in Guatemala, or Copan in Honduras. They can be arranged from Cancun cheaper than from the USA. I grew up squirrel and deer hunting, with all my Kilgore kin, in the MS and AL swamps. The jungle is actually very similar, but there are more and bigger things in the jungle that bite back....and you WILL encounter them. The local "terrorist" are no different than moonshiners. All joking and health problems aside, it really was an amazing trip. The ancient Mayan civilization is beyond belief. We'll go back some day. Sounds like you are well prepared. I have been thinking a lot about the post on the Mayan related vacation, as I have always wanted to go. I will go in the winter, when the bugs and heat are less. I can tolerate the weeds, because I am a gardener. I have much snake avoidance experience from tromping through Florida swamps. (I'm pretty good with gators too!) I can handle any terrorist. After all my neighbors in Tampa were PLO terrorist and I worked in a welfare office for years. I am a Mayan. Yes, surprise, Choctaws are Mayans. (I don't know it the genetic study has been released, but my daughter's FSU classmate worked on it.) Cousin Dennie

Hi, I just got back from two glorious weeks in Colorado and have 2456 messages staring me in the face and new members wanting on and a lot of info I need to forward but that will happen in the next couple of days. To the best of my knowledge... I have seen Amanda Scott (Sept 1833-abt 1845) listed as Polly (Ann or Mary) Scott's sister, BUT Polly was born about 1815 and the children of her mother's second marriage come before that. (I think Polly was born later because her mother's 1805 YOB seems right. Although it is possible Betsey gave birth at age 10*, it is highly unlikely.) Polly's parents were for sure Elizabeth "Betsey" Copeland (born abt 1805) and a man named (possibly JK) Scott . Betsey's second husband was Capt. John W. Kilgore. She had 6 kids with him from 1823-1835. Elizabeth "Betsey" Copeland was at least 1/2 indian. Her father was James Copeland and he died after 1851. I don't have a clue who her mother was. Betsey's full sister, Catherine "Katie" Copeland, is also my direct ancestor. Cousin Dennie * Into the 1990s, it was not uncommon for 10-12 year olds to have babies in Gadsden Co., Florida. Usually the father was an older relative... SICK, but true. The girls didn't see anything wrong with it, since their father is also their grandfather or uncle, etc. Yes, they have many mental and physical problems. Why aren't the older men thrown in jail? Don't ask me. I tried unsuccessfully to get them prosecuted for years. No one seemed to care.
The Federal Archives in Atlanta requires you make an appointment for the microfiche. The appointments are for morning or afternoon. The staff are very helpful, BUT they know absolutely nothing about their Native American documentation. There used to be a volunteer who knew all about it, but she moved! I have considered contacting my federal representatives asking they request training for the staff. (My request to the archives itself has fallen on deaf ears.) I understand that the Federal and State of GA Archives are moving in together in about 3 years. Their new facility will be south of Atlanta in Clayton County. Cousin Dennie
Glad you made it home safe and (no so) sound. Sure makes the USA look like Paradise, doesn't it? Ah, for the trip to the jungle! Doesn't sound like they prepared you for all the hazards that go along with a trip like that. I'm sure that is one vacation you will never forget. I'm glad you are home and back on the PC. Keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away. Author Unknown
