Lois, I am relatively new to the Kilgore board and have been reading all the messages from the people that have communicated with your husband Jack. Though I had not communicated with him directly I have read quite a few of his posted messages and I will agree with all the rest. HE WILL BE MISSED. I think I am sorry that I never got to know him and am very sorry for your loss. All I can say now, is that you were very lucky to have had him, even if only for awhile. Take care and bless you and your family. Genny Pottle "A good man is hard to find and even harder to lose!" Genny Pottle
This is my man! Now, the DAR says Benjamin who fought in the ARW is quite poss. not that same man as the one who died in KY! I am totally bewildered and don't know which way to turn. Maybe a copy of his will would be helpful if you have it. Thank you so much for your offer! Godspeed... Dolores M. Hello Everyone, Just wanted to thank all of you for kind messages about my stepfather, Jack Goins. They've been very comforting to my mother and my family. He was the best father and very much loved by us all!! Our lives are so much richer having known him. Sincerely, Scott Jonson P.S. I was wondering if the moderator of this group would be able to "unsubscribe" Jack from the mailing list? Thank you for your assistance.
Umm, make that VERY embarrassed!! Randy
Sorry! I was responding to an email and clicked reply instead of sending it to Barbekay direct. My turn to be very embarrassed!! Warm regards, Randy
Hi Barbara, Always good to hear from you, even under sad circumstances. Sure wish we could get a reunion going so we could see some of the faces before they disappear...I'm afraid Jerry must not be doing very well, as we never hear from him. Warmest regards, Randy
Allen said the D.A.R. put a marker of R.W. Soldiers and put Benjamin's name on there but it is not true. He gave me this Livingston County Material by Happy Greer, braimer@kiwi.dep.anl.gov He transcribed and abstracted it from microfilm copies of the original Will Books. I am in the D.A.R and I think they are a lot stricter in their material than they once were. I think several on this Board can verify that ( Robin and Winnie) Betty Sellers kyseeker@comsource.net might be able to help you. She gave me the history "Caldwell County History Book" page 300 There is a Dr. Benjamin Kilgore in MS., I think. Is that the one you were looking for .? I have a lot of old notes that had him there. The Benjamin that I was referring to at the beginning is the son of James William Kilgore and his wife, Elizabeth Jack. In Betty's information " The son Benjamin Kilgore, moved to Spartenburg and Laurens County, S.C. He served as a Captain in the militia and was taken prisoner at Charleston on May 12, 1780. From September, 1781, he served as a colonel. Benjamin married Anne McCray. Anne and the one son, James were riding on horseback and were overtaken by a company of hostile Indians, who".......I'm sure you already have this. The father Benjamin married a second time to Jane McDavid and they reared a large family and moved to what was to become Caldwell County around 1800. The sons, David and William were given original land grants on Dry Fork of Eddy Creek in 1798. Benjamin died here in 1802. Benjamin left wife, Jane, and 12 children: James, Jane, Elizabeth, Isabel, John, William, David, Hugh, Samuel, Polly, Jonathan and Benjamin." I have his will if it will help you.
