Hello Vickie and all my cousins, Vickie, I cannot say for certain who this Charles and Mary Kilgore is but since it mentions land being on a line with a person named Gray: "Charles Kilgore and James Green thence running to two white oaks, thence on a conditional line between sd Charles Kilgore and GRAY to a bucky & sugartree" I am going to say that this Charles Kilgore is the son of Rev. Robert "Robin" Kilgore and Jane Porter Kilgore. This particular Charles Kilgore married Mary Polly GRAY. On 7 July 1858, G W Bond Sr qualified as the administrator of the large estate of Reverend Charles Kilgore. As for his occupation during his life time, He served as the Justice of Peace of Scott Co, in 1819. He was qualified as Commissioner of Revenue in 1842 and in 1846 he was elected to the position of High Sheriff. He also served as a Baptist Minister. Hi to all my cousins, Here is an editorial article that appeared in our local newspaper this morning. I thought you may enjoy reading about the wisdom and thinking of people that live in our region, the region that your ancestors came through and lived for a time before moving on westward. Today this region is known as the "Gateway to the West." Mess with our cousins and get a whuppin' By JIM WELCH Let's talk about cousins. Cousins are important to Southerners. They are perhaps more important to us than they are to anyone else anywhere else in the country. This is particularly true of Southerners who centuries ago ventured west of the Appalachians and into the deeper South. With us, our way of life is secondary to our family, for we are quick to place our way of life at risk if our cousins are being messed with. Long ago, the British military establishment determined that one of their strategies for squashing the American colonial rebellion should include their occupation of the Southern colonies. Even though loyalist militias outnumbered rebel militias throughout the South, many of the British troops managed to treat their otherwise hospitable hosts with great indignity. Their indignity was such that many heretofore loyalists and fence straddlers found themselves aiding in discomforting the British occupiers - a fact that caused even more indignant behavior to be cast upon the colonists. The over-the-mountain folks were literally over the mountain. They had gone to get away from life on the other side, but after hearing of the indignities their cousins were suffering at the hands of the British, they took it upon themselves to raise a militia, cross back over into the hills of Carolina and to deliver a serious whuppin' one must assume the Redcoats were obviously begging for. Later, many of our cousins suffered from poor crop prices and headed to the Mexican territory of Texas looking for a better life. The Mexican leader, Gen. Santa Anna, became a bit disgruntled at our cousins' stubbornness in holding onto their American ideals of government. When Santa Anna took it upon himself to use military force in displaying his displeasure, many of the Texicans' cousins from these parts descended upon Texas and delivered a whuppin' that one can only assume Santa Anna begged for. When the states developed distaste for each other, many cousins were caught in the crossfire. It all depended on which cousins got treated the worst, but suffice it to say there were some serious whuppin' events conducted by both sides. It was because we were cousins that we reunited when it was all over. Time and time again, people somewhere in the world have stupidly had it in for our cousins. Sadly for them, our family has grown and grown over the years. We have cousins everywhere of every color of every faith of every nationality. Some of them are even downright weird and the subject of many a moral consternation. We might even be prone to cuss some of them every now and then, but that's okay because they are our cousins. That's family talk. If you're not family, you had best not be critical about our cousins. That "six degrees of separation" to us means that somehow everybody between the Hawaiian Islands to Maine and from Alaska to Puerto Rico is related within six generations. Much could, would, and should be said about the American way of life, but perhaps it should also be said to the yahoos who orchestrated September 11, 2001 that they have done went and messed with our cousins. I promise they did. And I also promise that history will repeat itself. You don't mess with our family unless you're just beggin' for a whuppin'. Like Domino's, we deliver. Jim Welch is a Kingsport resident and a teacher in the city schools. E-mail him at jmwelch@kingsport.com. When the article mentioned those weird cousins, I instantly thought of Randy and all the cousins here on the Kilgore board, hehehehe!!! I received this this afternoon. I heard about it on the news tonight and decided to pass it along to you. This is for real, so be careful and watch out for it. Carol Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2001 10:58 AM Subject: Virus Warning!!!!!!!!!!!! New 'War Vote' Virus Deletes Computer Files SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 24) - Security experts on Monday warned of a brand new virus masquerading as a program that will allow people to vote whether the United States should go to war over the deadly Sept. 11 hijacker attacks, but which deletes computer files instead. The "Vote Virus" is spreading via e-mail to users of Microsoft Corp.'s Outlook e-mail program, said Simon Perry, vice president of security solutions at Computer Associates International Inc. The virus appears with the subject line: "Peace between America and Islam!" and the body of the e-mail reads: "Hi. Is it a war against America or Islam!? Let's vote to live in peace!" Perry said. When the attachment entitled "WTC.exe" is opened, the virus deletes all the files on the computer's hard drive and sends copies of the e-mail to every address listed in the computer's address book, he said. The virus also defaces any Web pages that are hosted by an infected computer to read: "America ... few days will show you what we can do!!! It's our turn >>> Zaker is so sorry for you." The virus is believed to be the work of an opportunist and not associated with the Sept. 11 jetliner attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in which more than 6,000 people are believed to be dead or missing. "There is no evidence that this is related to the people who carried out" the attacks, Perry said. "We feel this is likely to get quite a high pickup in that a lot of people are going to click on this," he said. "If the news about this doesn't get out before people get their e-mails, they're at risk." SICK SENSE OF HUMOR Perry said he expects there will be more socially engineered viruses created in the future that will take advantage of people's interest in the attacks and the subsequent political and military repercussions. "What this is is a sick sense of humor," Perry said. "Chances are this is not any kind of cyber-terrorism. It's just cyber terror." As many as 10 large corporate customers of Computer Associates have been infected since the virus first appeared Monday morning, Perry said. Researchers do not know where it originated from but it has not yet hit Europe and Asia, he said. Computer Associates is working on software that will enable its Innoculate anti-virus software to detect the new virus and prevent it from infecting a computer, Perry said. pass this warning along to your friends!!! don't forget your family and co-workers, too!!!!!

He and his family went to CT for last week as they lived in the area which was off limits. They are fine. Randy, it is ironic re Ben and I buying shoes. Hi Randy; A little late, but I wanted to let you know that your debut on the sound was excellent, and Cheryl sounded like a beautiful person, which, I am sure she is. I enjoyed listening to you both. Barbara, you are right, and I think that Randy is a favorite of a lot of us Kilgore's. Dennie, we are going to have to watch out for Randy, as he is getting to be very brave lurking around. Hello everyone, The sadness and the horror of the past week has permeated our lives, and we will not stop praying for all the victims. To regain a sense of balance in our lives, though, it seems that some levity and humor is desperately needed now. Speaking of our favorite humorist ........... Randy, it was great to hear your voice ...... thanks for giving us the opportunity! Your "Desired Haven" retreat sounds wonderful, (and much needed) and I certainly wish you the best of luck with it. Now then ........... we'll forgive you for not mentioning us by name (your Kilgore buddies, the Quiverdancers, Port a Pottie All Girl Band, Wagon Train Cookie, etc., etc., if you'll just reaffirm that you were indeed wearing purple boxers and a little bit of tin foil. We'd also like to know if you hollered out, "Booga, Booga, Booga ...." just before the interview began, and what the reactions were. Details please! You are all still my favorite "family" and remain in my thoughts and prayers. It's been comforting (and reassuring) to hear from you, especially lately. With love, Barbara
Randy! How interesting! You should tell us how you came to be called for the interview. I am one of these people who likes to know all the details. Or am I ignorant because I haven't been on the list very long? To heck with worrying about being self serving. We like to know these things!! Thanks. Greetings Kilgore cousins, Three months ago, I got a call from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association asking me if they could interview my wife and I on their radio show, "Decision Today." They ended up taping three shows, and the first one hit the airwaves today. This one is on Ebay, and my auction site, Chinamissions, where I sell old books. The next show is on a missionary biography I'm writing, and the third covers my writing as a minister to the Boston business community. The last two have no air dates scheduled yet. Anyway, if you go to the address below and click on the September 18 show, you can actually hear the voice of the founder of the Purple Boxer short society. (Our segment comes about halfway through the program, and the segments are listed in order.) Sorry, they edited out my references to the Boxers, but when my wife refers to "this whole other life he has online" we were talking about the Kilgore cousins on this board. www.decisiontoday.org/ARCH.asp This has been a tough week in the Boston business community, as I'm sure its been for all of America, so please forgive me if this seems self-serving. Its a much-needed distraction for us...and I thought it might be fun for my cousins in "that whole other life" to hear one of their own. "Respectfully", Randy
Our newest member to the list is Linda Hesselgrave Lowrey and Linda says, "I grew up in Superior, Douglas Co., WI. Left Superior in 1974 & have lived in Atlanta, GA since 1980. My dad Howard Henry Hesselgrave came to Superior from Akeley, MN in 1918 when evacuated in boxcars to escape the bog fire. Dad used to speak of Archie Kilgore (other first names don't come to me right now)and I also went to school with Mike Kilgore (Central High School, 1965, Superior, WI). My parents bought their home from a Kilgore in 1941. I did not realize until a couple years ago that the Kilgores & Hesselgraves were related. There are still Kilgore families in Superior. One of the boys works at Greenwood Cemetery. I am not a KILGORE descendant, but have realized that there are often far more connections than what there appear to be. So, now to the genealogy stuff. Most of my information comes from "The Hesselgrave Families in America" pub. in 1979. My cousin's wife (KATHY CARLSON HESSELGRAVE) submitted the information for part of my line & she corresponded with a WYMAN KILGORE. I have pictures & correspondence from the KILGORE side found in my parents house. My connection is this: HARRY BENJAMIN KILGORE, b.1888, IA, son of WILLIAM EDWIN KILGORE and RUTH LOUISE NASH, m.(1903), SD, ALMA LOIS HESSELGRAVE b.1894, MN. ALMA was the dau. of FRED HESSELGRAVE and NELLIE COLE. ALMA died in 1918, and her children, WYMAN EARL EUGENE & HERBERT BERNARD KILGORE went to Grant Co., SD to live with their grandparents, JAMES & ALICE COLE I descend from JOHN HESSELGRAVE & MARY VIOLA PUTNAM. JOHN & FRED HESSELGRAVE were brothers." Be glad to offer any other info.
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that the email that I sent out was a generic message to all of my mail lists. Each and every list is different. The majority of my lists are strictly genealogy. I have some that are strictly discussion lists but the point that I wanted to try and get across is we too need to move forward as hard as it may be for a lot of us. I have been glued to the TV from the time I get up till I go to bed, crying, wondering, pacing, and stressing big time. Most of the mail lists have been real slow this past week and I am thankful for that it showed that people had their minds elsewhere and had taken time away from their normal routine in life and gave their concern to others in this time of need. We all needed time for prayer and set our computer life aside. We all have a lot of concerns as to what our future will hold and how we will try and adjust back to a normal and functional life. I don't know if it is possible but I just kind of wanted to give you a boost to move forward as best you can. Maybe a mind diversion to get our minds and bodies back on track. You all know that we are all here for you and your concerns and your needed prayers. I had a cousin in The Netherlands who sent me a "cartoon" that was in the newspaper there and the first thing that went thru my mind was...why does someone think this is funny? I relate a cartoon as being funny. In all actuality the "cartoon" is a sketch of the skylight of NY and the towers.. only thing now the towers are two huge crosses. May God be with each of you in this time of sorrow and unrest in our country. Gail Meÿer Kilgore Casa Grande, AZ
Hi, I have been thinking for many days now as how to address the mail lists that I host. To tell you that I know everyone is hurting and suffering now is probably minimal. But, we as American's have to move forward just as our country is moving forward. The day of mourning has passed and tomorrow our country will try and resume it's daily tasks of business. I have unsubbed from some of my mail lists as what I want to hear I can hear on the TV or read in the newspapers and keep myself informed in that direction. My computer is my way of relieving my stress and getting some enjoyment out of my life. I want to come to my mail lists and read something different that what I am watching or reading from the news media. Believe me, I am not insensitive as to what is going on around us all but as other mail lists hosts had stated, it is a time for move on and get back to genealogy or our discussion groups and stick with the topic of the mail lists. I now ask that from this post forward we stick to the topic of the mail list. Fly your flags, pray and remember! God Bless you all and GOD BLESS AMERICA Gail Meÿer Kilgore List Hostess
