Genealogist's Christmas "Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote Sank in a storm on an ill fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much to much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop >From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparent's wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer; I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys, and old Santa Claus too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at our roof with hoof-prints adorned. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned. As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead." "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug," He said as he gave me a great Santa Hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folks who can't find a thing. Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team which then rose like the down of a thistle And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family History is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!"
I have held back saying anything but I am going to go ahead and say it... Donna Kilgore Terranova was suppose to spend Christmas with her son and family and on Christmas Eve she was suppose to celebrate the upcoming marriage of her granddaughter. Donna didn't make it to her son's instead she spent Sunday at the hospital with chest pains. We are hoping since everything looks ok so far that it was angina or stress of the holiday with being alone for the first time in her married life. The loss of her husband last May is taking a great toll on her and the holidays seemed to bring the worst out. She tries to keep an upper chin and is always there for everyone who needs a prayer and a good uplift. Well, now it is our turn to give Donna an uplift after all she wants to come to AZ in the next couple of months and if she doesn't get better she isn't going to be able to come. So, if you would set aside a little bit of time and say a special prayer that everything is ok and pray that what she is experiencing is the stress of the season. She goes to the Dr. tomorrow again, and they will be doing further tests, so either she or I will keep you updated. I hope it is her, as that means that she is doing better.. Hope you all had a nice Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy New You to all!! Gail Meÿer Kilgore Casa Grande, AZ

Please welcome Heather Devine to our group of searchers. Heather says: Hi Gail, I am researching my paternal great-grandmother, Delia Kilgore. The info I know: Delia Kilgore, b. April 11, 1885 in TN to Anderson and Margaret Kilgore, d. April 6, 1836 in Warrior, Jefferson County, TN She first married someone with the last name Crow, and had two sons Fred and Milton Crow. Her second marriage was to a Griffin, and she had a son Sam. Her third marriage was to Lewis Watts. They had one son, James, and one daughter, Hazel. Hazel Watts married James Devine and had my father, William Devine. ... I've been able to find Delia's family listed on the 1900 census for Marion County. Listed were: Anderson, Margaret, Calvin, Edward, Andrew, Rufus (and one more whose name I can't remember ... my notes are at home). In the 1880 census in Marion county we found listed Anderson, Margaret, and William KILLGORE. Not sure if that's just an error, or what. I'm interested in finding out more about Delia's parents, Anderson and Margaret, so that I can trace back further. I would also like to find out more about Delia, since all I've gotten so far is her name listed on the census and a copy of her death certificate. Thanks, Heather
Hi Marlene: A very welcome to our clan. You will feel comfortable, very much at home, plus you will get assistance if you ask. It is a very friendly, crazy bunch, but in 2 weeks on the board you will love each and every one of us. Have a wonderful Holiday. Donna

Date of scheduled execution State Victim name Inmate name Status June 16, 1999 Missouri Marilyn Wilkins, 54 Bruce Kilgore executed Bruce W. Kilgore took part in the abduction and murder of a north St. Louis restaurant worker in 1986. Kilgore, of Berkeley, was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery in the death of Marilyn Wilkins. Marilyn, 54, was abducted Aug. 27, 1986, from the parking lot of Cristo's Restaurant on Riverview Drive. She had worked there as a salad maker and lived in St. Louis. Two days later, her body was found near the St. Louis Art Museum in Forest Park. She was stabbed repeatedly, and her throat was slashed. Prosecutors alleged that Kilgore held Wilkins while another man, Willie Luckett, stabbed her. Luckett was angry with Wilkins because she caused him to be fired from Cristo's. Wilkins got him fired from Cristo's by telling the boss that Luckett stole meat. Luckett was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Kilgore claims in his clemency application that his accomplice, Willie Luckett, killed Marilyn Wilkins in 1986. Luckett is serving life in prison. Kilgore says he sat in the car while Luckett pulled Wilkins into the alley in suburban St. Louis and slashed her throat. Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon said he is convinced that Kilgore was the stabber. "That's what the testimony was in the case,'' Nixon said. "The jury had the opportunity to look at the evidence and they made a very reasoned decision here.'' Nixon said there are many reasons why Luckett got life in prison and Kilgore got the death sentence. "Luckett testified, Kilgore didn't,'' Nixon said. "Luckett had no prior convictions, Kilgore did. Luckett spoke on his own behalf in the penalty phase, saying he was impaired by drugs and alcohol. Kilgore didn't. This was a brutal murder in which the jury saw the evidence and made the hard call."
