Hi Paige, No, this Dannie isn't mine. I just saw him and wondered if he belonged to any one on this list. The original message was from a Donna Ferris who has the pictures. Hate to see them lost. Leave it to the Kilgore crowd to respond in force when someone asks for help. I've got some terrific help and helpers off the board today. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Warmest regards, Randy
Randy, I have made some quilts and there is a process for transferring pictures onto fabric. Go to a quilt store and they will tell you how. Also, they may be able to give you a name to do the quilting. Some church groups, quilt clubs or home demonstration groups quilt. Do get on it right away. If quilting is not possible it can be tacked (that is with thread and not tacks). Good luck and let us know the outcome. Freda
Randy, as far as getting your fabric blocks actually made into a quilt, I have had two done, one by a quilting bee of Morman ladies that did it for an evening together, and the other was done by Senior Citizens that gathered several times a week for the companionship and the activity. Their biggest concern was that someone may NOT have any quilts for them to do eventually. Thanks to all of you who are sending responses! I'm very encouraged that I can make this happen. Keep those ideas coming! Randy
I use a program that lets you scan for t shirt transfers. You can purchase the transfer paper to use in your computer for the scan at almost any store or cvs pharmacy. It makes a reverse copy that then is ironed onto fabric. I use a hp office jet v40 printer that has the option to make mirror images. I also use PrintShop, which is a common program if you plan on doing this yourself. Though you dont have to use either of these, The basics are that you will have to be able to scan a reversed image and print it onto transfer paper, most any fairly up to date print programs will do this and if you have the scanner. Your In Business!! I thought of a project somewhat like yours to make a Throw Blanket for my son overseas in the military. I think it is very possible to achieve it in time for your occasion. It's the stitching that may prove to be the hardest and slowest part. Good Luck, Brenda in the Illinois flatlands.
Hi Bob, That's a great suggestion, and one that wouldn't have occurred to me. Warm regards, Randy
Hi there to all the Kilgore gang! I have an idea for our (my wife's and mine) 25th wedding anniversary, but have absolutely no idea if it can be done, or where to go to find out, so I'm going to seek the wisdom of the Kilgore Family Council. I've put together a collection of the kids drawings from their early years to the present, along with some cards and letters my wife and I sent each other when we were dating (she doesn't know I've kept them all this time.) What I'd like to do is to transfer them from paper to cloth so they can be sewn together for a quilt. Is there a way to do that? And how do I go about finding someone who does quilts? I've looked in the local yellow pages, but find no one who does quilts. Also, our anniversary is in August; is that enough time for me to get this done? By the way, you'll likely get a kick out of this, and maybe learn a lesson also. I can tell you with absolute certainty that scanning the picture into your computer, and then inserting a piece of cloth into the printer in the hopes that the picture will emerge on the cloth IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!! Unless, of course you enjoy taking things apart, pulling tiny bits of thread from around intricate pieces of plastic and metal. So, if any of you can help me with any part of this dilemma, please let me know. I think it may be that it isn't possible, but I don't want to give up on the idea unless I have to. My wife is not generally the romantic type, but I think this one has the potential for making her feel warm and fuzzy. HELP! Warm regards, Randy
Hi, Hanes T-Shirt Maker might work for you. The package includes software and special paper. You design anything you want using the software, and then print it on their special iron-on transfer paper. We made our own custom t-shirts a couple of years ago and they turned out great. I suppose you could iron it onto any cloth that can be ironed onto. They sell it at most places that sell software - I bought it at Best Buy. Retail price is about 40 bucks, but you should be able to find it for much less. Brian Bauman --- Rkkcak@aol.com wrote: > all this time.) Randy, My suggestion for transfers to cloth would be to look up a co. that xfers picures to t-shirts , as a logical place to start. Hi Sharon; It really is amazing of how many stories that have been written the past few years, and no doubt more stories were written before I was on the Kilgore board. I do love to hear every one of them though. Yes, there are certainly a lot of twists in the Kilgore name, I just wish they hadn't used the same name over and over again! That certainly confuses the various generations. I did get a nice surprise yesterday, a cousin (My Mother's side) sent me a very clear picture of my Grandfather and Grandmother Olsen's gravestone. The dates and names were so clear. So we do get much needed photos and other things that are not expected, but are certainly wonderful to have. Cousin; Donna
It is amazing how many different twists, turns, theories, etc. have been found throughout all our searching, isn't it?
