    3. Jerry - I recently asked to be put on the list, and am realizing that I'm not getting much out of it and would like to be removed. The one tidbit today (GA gold lottery) was just about worth it, but my issue is one of managing my e-mail which already takes too much time and attention for me both at work and home. Have quit other listserves for similar reasons in the past, too many messages, not enough with real relevance to me or from people who I could help out. A chronic problem with listservers is particularly acute on this list: people who want to communicate with individuals keep replying to the server, so a lot of the traffic is "me too" "Welcome aboard" from the twelfth current member, etc. I don't want to be a curmudgeon, but it's hard to understand why so many people who just don't get it, that the direct reply is more engaging and intimate and less annoying to those who not only aren't the intended recipients, but who even feel funny about reading somebody else's mail. List administrators must get hoarse fingetips from nagging people not to do this., so I'm glad not to have to do it myself. Happy hunting and I'll contact you or another known list member if I hear anything juicy.

    1. Re: [KILGORE] Georgia Kilgores
    2. Wow! Vickie this is some good stuff. Thank you sooooo much for sharing this information with the list. My William Kilgore was born somewhere in GA, but I don't know where or when. I do know that his (most likely) oldest son, James Robert, was born in 1884. I am now turning to the census to try to find him on the 1880 census. He was married to Rebecca Wyers, but probably after the 1880 census. Do you or anyone out there have the 1880 GA Census on CD, who would be kind enough to search for this William Kilgore? I have names of brothers and sisters, if this would help. Many thanks, Davine

    1. [KILGORE] Winnie Clayton's Ancestors
    2. Hi to all my cousins, I do not know very much about the Claytons as there is not much to work with on them, just like the early Penleys. Here are some gleanings I have picked up from the internet. Descendants of William Cleaton-Clayton 1. William Cleaton-Clayton b: Abt. 1630 in England d: Bef. 1680 in Richmond Co., VA. .....+Hannah ??? b: Unknown m: Unknown d: Unknown ......2. William Cleaton-Clayton b: Abt. 1665 d: 1705 in Richmond County, VA ...........+Mary ??? b: Unknown m: Bef. 1693 d: Unknown ............3. Mary Clayton b: Abt. 1693 in Richmond County, VA d: Unknown ............3. William Clayton b: Abt. 1695 in Richmond County, VA d: Unknown ............3. Elizabeth Clayton b: Abt. 1697 in Richmond County, VA d: Unknown ............3. Hannah Clayton b: Abt. 1700 in Richmond County, VA d: Unknown ............3. Alexander Clayton b: Abt. 1701 in Richmond County, VA d: Unknown ............3. Stephen Clayton b: Abt. 1703 in Richmond County, VA d: June 27, 1784 in Stokes County, NC .................4. Winnie Clayton who married Robert Kilgore Most people researching this particular line fail to pick up that 2nd William Clayton. They say that all the 3rd generation are children of that very first William Clayton. Here is some data showing that there was indeed that 2nd generation William....... William Cleaton (Clayton) "of New Kent County" bought two parcels of land in 1667 and 1670 in the part of Old Rappahannock County that became Richmond County. He was apparently deceased by 1680 when William Clayton (Jr.) was mentioned as an "orphan". William Clayton Jr. later sold the parcel purchased by his father in 1667. This deed, dated 1689, says "Wm. Cleaton and wife Mary Cleaton of Parish of North Farnham and County of Rappa.", for 2,000 pounds tobacco, sell to Abraham Cooke of same county and parish, fifty acres of land the which land belongeth to my mother’s plantation and (blot) hundred acres of land that she doth now live on and that my father bought of William Landman." William Clayton Sr. had bought this 100 acres from William Landman in 1667. In 1686 there is a court record that bears on the birth year of William Clayton Jr.: "Henry Awbrey & Arthur Forbes as marrying the administrix of Capt. Tho. Goldman decd have in their custody 23 head of cattle belonging to the orphans of William Clayton, decd and whereas William Clayton, son of the said William Clayton decd, being arrived to the age of 21, has petitioned this court to be possessed of the said cattle..." William Clayton Sr.'s widow was named Hannah. I think it likely she later remarried to Andrew MacAllister. William Clayton Jr,'s wife was named Mary. It appears to me that they lived on the land purchased by his father in 1670, which lay in North Farnham Parish of Rappahannock County. The area covered by this Parish was later renamed Richmond County. William and Mary Clayton later show up in the records of Richmond County. 1. William CLAYTON/CLEATON, 10208, M. Born ca 1667 in England. William died in Richmond Co.,Va in 1705; he was 38. This would be the 2nd generationWilliam. 2. 25 Mar 1651 - Virginia - William Clayton transported to Northumberland Co.,Va. with 13 others by Thomas Thornbrough, who got 700 acres near the Nomeny River. (I have reservations about this being the father of Stephen Clayton because of the year discrepancy. This William may be the grandfather of Stephen... 1st generation William) 3. 2 Oct 1663 - Virginia - William Clayton and William Wright, Edward Washington, Margaret Powell among 40 persons transported by Robert Pitt for 3,000 acres in Accomac Co.,Va. (I have reservations about this being the father of Stephen Clayton because of the year discrepancy. This William may be the grandfather of Stephen... 1st generation William) 4. 1694 - Richmond Co.,Va. - Deed for land formerly purchased by William Clayton on the Totuskey. (I have reservations about this being the father of Stephen Clayton because of the year discrepancy. This William may be the grandfather of Stephen... land purchased by 1st generation William being transferred to 2nd generation William) 5. 1705 - William Clayton with 50 other merchants and planters sign Petition. (This would be 2nd generation William.) 6. 9 Nov 1705 - Richmond Co.,Va. - Will of William Cleaton In the name of God Amen, I William Cleaton of the County of Richmond in Virginia Being Sick and weak in body but with sound mind and memory and knowing the ftraylty of this life has & made this my Last Will and Testament, first I bequeath my soul to God that Gave it me in Sure and Certain hopes of the Resurrection mentioned by the death of our Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my Body to be buryed in such manner as the friends that I know shale think fitt and after my debts are payd. for that finale? Estate that it hath pleased God to possess me with all I Good in manner and forme following viz I Give unto ALEXANDER CLEATON and STEPHEN CLEATON my two YOUNGER SONS the plantation and Land that I now live on to them and their heirs Lawfully begotten of them & then to be Equally Divided Between those two when they Come to the age of Seventeen, but if they are taught to read and write then it Shall not be till they come to nineteen years of age. Item. I give unto my DAUGHTER MARY CLEATON one young mare branded with a K with all her future increase to be given when she comes to the age of Sixteen or day of marriage. Item. I Give unto my SON WILLIAM CLEATON a Chest that hath my name and date enggraved upon it and an Iron pot stille? to be given when he comes to the age of seventeen, but if taught to read and write then not till he comes to the age of nineteen. Item. I give unto my Two DAUGHTERS ELIZABETH and HANNAH CLEATON Each of them a two year old Heifer to be given when they come to the age of Sixteen or day of marriage. Item. I given unto my SON ALEXANDER CLEATON my Spoone Moulds and if he dyed before STEPHEN then is my will that STEPHEN shall have the moulds and if WILLIAM CLEATON is the Longest Lived then he and his heirs shall possess the moulds. Item. I given unto my WIFE all the Rest of my Estate and Lastly I make my WIFE my Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament making VOID all other wills heretofore made by me. In Confirmation hereof I have interchangeably sett my hand and Seal this the nineth day of December 1705. William (X) Cleaton Witnesses: John Leaman(?) or should this be Landman(?) William Linton William Landsman Proved in Richmond Court by the oaths of Wm. Lynton and William Landsman the 6th day of March 1705 & recorded. Test. B. S. Sherloik C. Clerk (?) 1 Notice that a William Clayton supposedly bought land from a William Landman. Then notice that a William Landman witnessed the will of the 2nd generation William Clayton. Is it possible the wife of either the 1st generation William Clayton -- Hannah or the wife of the 2nd generation William -- Mary could have been a Landman woman and gotten land from her family and then this William Landman witnessed the will just trying to protect his sister or niece ??? 3. Hello Cousin, After I emailed you yesterday, I found much of this information on the Wise Co., VA site. It is nice to have it validated by someone else though. Thank you so much!! I was stuck on this line of my family because I never met my grandfather Curtis Mitchell Kilgore. He died just over a year ago, and I do not know anyone in his family. His daughter, my aunt, Terri and I are working on this together. It is "known" by the family that they have strong Cherokee blood lines, but I have yet to find that out. In fact what I have found would suggest otherwise. As it turns out, I have two lines of Kilgore in my tree. Here is my second line. 1. William Addington + Nancy Kilgore 2. James Robert Addington + Ferbia Roxia Anna Fleming 3. Margaret "Maggie" "Peggy" Addington + Mitchell Clayton Kilgore 4. Curtis Mitchell Kilgore + Dorthea "Dorothy" Keith 5. Everybody give her a hearty Kilgore welcome! You may post your messages to all our cousins by sending your messages to this URL address: Kilgore-L@Rootsweb.com I think I have found your line and can help you on this one. I went to the Internet and found a reference where your Clayton Mitchell Kilgore who married a Peggy Addington was possibly born in Wise Co., VA. I then went to the Wise Co., VA. Genweb site and found that a MITCHEL C. KILGORE married a MAGGIE ADDINGTON. I think this is your man (Mitchell Clayton Kilgore) rather than the other name. This marriage took place April 5, 1918. This site also shows this man’s parents as being a Raleigh Kilgore who appears to have been married several times. The marriage that pertains to you would be with the woman Nancy Ellen Dorton, daughter of Harvey and Elizabeth ??? Dorton. This marriage took place July 23, 1891. At this Genweb site, I then found that Raleigh Kilgore was the son of Nelson and Katey Kilgore. Here is the 1870 Census of Wise Co., VA. showing Nelson and Katey Kilgore 1870 Wise Co., VA. 3. Please welcome to the Kilgore list Tammy Tinney Caine who resides in Visalia, CA and is searching the Kilgore's of Tallapoosa Co., Al. With all of you searching in that county, you should be able to tie something together. Here is what Tammy has on her line that she is searching... I have the will of Joseph Davis Sr. that died 1854 Tallapoosa Co., Al. possible grandfather to Massilva Kilgore. I'm sure this is her married name as she made her mark above her name to sign the probate papers so she had to be over 18. If this is she, she would have been age 21 at the time of Joseph Davis' death. It spelled Massilva Kilgore on the papers. She and my gr grandfather, Isaac Tinney, (among others listed) were the heirs to the Davis estate in Tallapoosa Co..However, she's the only one I cannot figure out who she is. The 1860 Tallapoosa Co., Al census is my first clue as to who she might be. Also listed in the will is Mary Kilgore, wife of Larkin Kilgore m. Dec. 11, 1850 Tallapoosa Co., Al...Larkin may be a middle name..I'm not sure..Mary Tinney is my gr grandfather's sister and grandaughter of the above Joseph Davis, Sr. She also made her mark along with the others. I have not found Larkin Kilgore anywhere. I feel this might be Massilva below: This is all I have to! go on...I took this info from the Kilgore surname page. 3. Christy Welcome. I am also pretty new to the list. I only have 3 Kilgores I am looking for. I wish to find Mahalia Kilgore and her two sons James and Levi. I don't know her husband's name. They came from somewhere in AL. 1. Re: [KILGORE] My son is well
    2. Hi DD; I am so glad that your son's operation is over, and even though he went through some rough parts, at least it sounds like he is going to be fine in time. It is so very difficult to see your children suffer. Sometimes I think that it hurts the parents more than the children watching them go through hurt and pain. My prayers are with all of your family, and I do so hope that your son will be able to go home soon. Home is so much better than hospitals. It is nice to hear from you again, DD. Time seems to go so fast, and you never get every thing done, however, you are never too busy to not read the Kilgore posts! We have to have the Kilgore fix, or the day is not right. Love, Donna

    1. [KILGORE] My son is well
    2. My son had his surgery last friday and he is doing as well as can be expected. Between the doctor and the hospital they dropped the ball on several things but we are hanging in there. The doctor informed us five days after the surgery that we should ahve expected all the blood from the surgery, but here we are seven days later and still bleeding some. Not sure what we should ahve expected but that is not one. hope everyone is well, good to see Donna and always delayed Randy posting. Take care all. Dd

    2. 2elcoem aboard Christy: Glad to have you among us. Don't let Randy foll you know. Afterall, you will find him roaming the halls in purple boxers tooting dixy on a pickle flute. <G> Just look in the archives you will understand that the rest of us are sane. DD

    1. [KILGORE] Donna's Calling...
    2. I've never been able to resist when Donna calls out. Yes, I'm still among the readers of the Kilgore list, and Christy, watch out, this is a pretty loopy group! As I tell all newcomers, I'm the only one who is reasonably acquiescent, and a demonstrable wallflower. Nonetheless, should you need a guide through the maze of the Kilgore personalities on this board, please don't hesitate to follow me to the water cooler where I'll tell you all about the quirky ones here (which is everyone but me!) I apologize for my silence, but I've had a number of writing projects hit the streets lately, and my email responses are 17 days behind! My warmest wishes to all the ladies and gentlemen on the board, and to Allen and Barbara also! GRIN! "Respectfully", Randy
