I have the pleasure of welcoming our cousin, who is new to the Kilgore Board. Delores (Tootie, Kilgore), Nistler. Tootie's grandfather and my grandfather were brothers. She was raised in NE, while as you know I was raised in IA and then on to NY, for me. Tootie lives in Tucson, AZ. She will see me very soon, as I am flying into Phoenix to be with Jack and Gail. A few cousins of ours will be in AZ. also, so sounds like we will have a mini reunion. I am getting very excited, and can hardly stand waiting until the end of this month! Welcome again Tootie. Donna
Welcome Toodie, my name is Tammy and I'm here to tell ya, you're in for the time of your life...This is a fun list... Always, Tammy Tinney Caine
We have another cousin down here. He lives south of Tucson and he is right out of the York Co., PA Kilgore's. He was here doing some training while in the service and knew he was coming back to AZ. So when he got out of the service he went back to York Co. and worked the family farm and then retired here a few years ago. He raises horses and I guess he worked with race horses back in PA. Gail
Randy - I have no wish to bring down the wrath of both sides of the debate upon my head. However, the Scottish, Irish question was discussed by John K. Johnston in Clan Kilgore and can be also looked up in the encyclopedia. He says the name Kilgour was an ancient parish in Fifeshire, Scotland, which means to me that the origin of "Kilgore" is Scottish. He says hundreds of Scotchmen were transplanted by James I from 1606 to 1610 and later by Cromwell, "who adopted this menthod of colonizing the Emerald Isle with Protestants, in order to keep Catholic Ireland in subjection." Many of the Irish landowners had fled the country and these lands were populated with Scots who held themselves above the Irish, did not intermarry, and no matter how many generations were born in Ireland, did not consider themselves Irish. This is the root of the "troubles" in Ulster to this day. Johnston further says, "The term "Scotch-Irish" seems to have come into general use since our Revolution, having been first taken as a race-name by many individuals of a very large class of people in the United States, descendants of emigrants of Scottish blood from the north of Ireland." Around 1720 when the tides of politics in Ireland turned against these Protestant settlers, they left Ireland in tremendous numbers and came to America. My neighbor when I was growing up was a from northern Ireland. He considered himself an Orangeman (from William of Orange, don't ask me about that, look it up) and was scornful of the Catholic Irish who wore green. I have many quarrels with Johnston, but it seems this is pretty good history. That is where he met his first born for the first time (Edith Walker was wife #3). Grandpa was married to Pearl Roberts and for whatever reason she left him but never told him she was with child. How he found out was that someoen said there was a young man on base that looked just like him. That would ahve been Lawerence Roberts. According to my mother who caguely remembers them visiting was that Lawerence and wife had three boys possibly a couple years older at the time, ages about 15 down to 11 or 12. Here is what my Uncle passed down to me: Howard Killgore was US Army at that time they were still in Cavalry divisions. Played in the army band, several instruments. He never liked the physical part. At that time (the 30's) there was Navy and Army; marines and air force came a bit later i believe. He was stationed at Kelly Field, San Antonio, still an active base as far as I know. Randy, In doing genealogy for several years (how many, I ain't sayin'), I've found several lines where a branch of the line went to Ireland, while another branch remained in Scotland, or England. So, it is quite likely that some lines of KILGORE do, in fact, have Irish roots, while others are (more or less) Scot. My recommendation is that you continue to do as you have in the past, until such time as your original information is either proven or disproven. Family traditions usually have at least a small grain of truth to them.
Heh, I am doing great tonight. Have you tried to talk on the phone and have a husband who wants to know if you have the oven turned on so that he can have his cookies before he goes to bed? I was trying to talk to Donna and Jack was worried about his cookies... So, he is in bed and I just goofed big time on our new member. She was a Kilgore before she got married, now she is a Nistler..;-)) Sorry about that Toodie!! Gail Meÿer Kilgore Casa Grande, AZ
Hi, I have added Delores Kilgore, Toodie as she likes to be called. She is of our line, Thomas Kilgore, Cecil Co., MD. Toodie lives in Tucson, AZ. Please welcome her to the list. Gail Meÿer Kilgore Casa Grande, AZ
Dear Kilgore gang, All my life I've lived under the banner of an Irish heritage, boldly celebrating St. Patrick's Day as boisterously as I celebrate the Fourth of July. I've railed in letters, speeches and columns about the cowardly, violent acts of the Irish on both sides of "the Troubles", thinking I was speaking as a distant insider. Unfortunately, if I understand this board correctly, I've been living a delusional life (okay, stop your chuckling!). So, with a particularly earnest request to Vicki and Jerry to weigh in, will somebody tell me if I should be spending this Friday sliding down a rainbow hunting for that pesky leprechaun, or donning my kilt and pulling out the clubs for a bonny run at the local links? Said humorously, but with sincere interest. Are we Scottish, Irish or both? "Top O' The Mornin' To Ya'" Randy OR "FORE!" Randy

Thank you Theresa, this week end I will get the pictures out and scatter them across my bed and try to match names. Have you ever heard of a Annistine Kilgore? I have several pics. of her. I do not have a clue who any of these people are. I have several graveside pics with only the initials on the gravestones. Strange. But I guess that is the way they wanted it. Once again thanks. Maybe you can help me get past this brick wall. Linda Therese K <therese52@hotmail.com> wrote: Hi Linda, Sorry for the delay in responding...been working long hours. Shucks, it weren't nuthin . We were in the process of sending in recipes for a cook book at the time.
