Alright Jenna I did not know you had the EOFF line as well. Now we are dble cousins even if it is distant. My Grandmother was Parlee EOFF daughter of Joseph EOFF and Letha SUMPTER. Isn't genealogy fun LOL. You never know where you will connect at. Dd
Hi Jenna and Toodie; What a wonderful conversation going on this board. Toodie is my cousin, and there is a good chance that you two are related in some way on the Hinkles side. I am elated, as Toodie, I love you and you are my cousin, and also I love Jenna. Jenna and I have been close on this board for quite some time now. Jenna and I have corresponded for years. The big thing about all of this is, I sent Jenna a photo of myself, and her sister Wanda saw it and said we looked a like. Wanda and Jenna sent me a photo of Wanda, and we really do look alike. But, they do not know that The, NE and IA kin said that Toodie and I look alike. Now we have three that look alike, What a great day this is. Jenna does not look like us, but she is one sweetheart, and she is ours. Jenna is a wonderful cousin and I am so glad I have all of you. The other good news is that Katy and Wayne should be in Tucson, when I am there with Toodie. Toodie and Katy are sisters, and I have loved both Katy and Wayne from the first day I saw them. I feel so very fortunate to have wonderful cuzzins like all of you. Hopefully, the next time, Jenna and Wanda will be with us also. Wouldn't that be great? Love, Donna
Hi Toodie, The Hinkle family married into my Elliott, Simpson and Eoff lines which are connected to my mother's family, not the Kilgore line. They went from N.C., Tennessee and Izard Co., AR. and ?? I don't know if this Hinkle line is connected to the line from PA. This Hinkle family was in N.C. in 1792. Which one of your Hinkle line went south and where in the south? Ok gang, I found another Kilgore in Clay Co., AL. I'm reaching for anything that will help me find out who my Larkin or Massilva Kilgore's are. Larkin m. Mary Tinney 1850 Tallapoosa Co., Al., sister to my gr grandfather, Isaac Tinney. Massilva (Massilvy) is m. to a Kilgore, but I don't know who yet. (Massilva may be a Tinney or a Davis...)Maybe James Kilgore listed in the 1860 Tallapoosa Co., Al. census. I keep in mind the migration patterns of my Davis and Tinney's and while searching my Tinney family in Clay Co., Al., I find an Annie Kilgore, daughter of James A. Kilgore, in the Clay Co., Marriage Records. She m. James R. Tidwell, Jan. 27, 1884. Of course this is a little later than my Larkin or Massilva, but maybe Massilva would be her mother. Any thoughts out there about this Annie and her father James A. Kilgore? Tammy Tinney Caine

We were stationed here in 56. So it is possible yall knew of one another back then. Roy, if you are listening, you were at Keesler when my father was there. My father Edward Howard Killgore, was in the Marines for 4 years and then joined the Army and then transfered over the the AF for 20 years. If I remember correctly, Pop was an instructor. I don't remember for what. Now Roy, if you are standing at the right slot machine it' "rains" money. haha. After all these months of searching, I've made a connection to someone on the list. Hi Toodie...I'm researching one of those latteral lines that hasn't surfaced yet...but I'm hoping it will..I just keep watching the fun and postings. My gr grandfather, Isaac Tinney had a sister named Mary Tinney, she married Larkin Kilgore 1850 Tallapoosa Co., Al. (Larkin may be a middle name) And if that wasn't confusing enough, listed as one of the grandchildren to Joseph Davis Sr., is Massilva Kilgore along with the others above. I have no idea who her husband is, but am sure Massilva's married name is Kilgore. It is thru the will of Joseph Davis, sr., that I found the Kilgore names. I have been unable to find any of the Kilgores after that. Someone really did a nice job in posting all the Alabama census on the Kilgore surname website at Rootsweb, and among those was listed a name that somewhat looks like my Massilva but may be misspelled..in another place she is listed as Massilvy; 1860 Tallapoosa Co. census: Pg. 290; household #657; Channahatchy James Kilgore - age 32? (hard to read) - day laborer - GA MARSELSY? - 27 - GA (hard to read) Rebecca - 11 - ALABAMA Joseph - 9 - AL Harriet - 5 - AL Channahatchy is where Joseph Davis died 1854 and where my gr grandfather was living as well as his brother Joseph Swift Tinney and his family not to mention some of the Davis clan. I have no idea who this James Kilgore is, but I am hoping to find a will for him too next time I get to the library. Probably next week. I've done all I can do in the way of research on the computer end... So not such a long story but a difficult one to follow.....:):) And by the way, I love your nick name.... Always, Tammy Tinney Caine

Thank you Tammy for the warm welcome. If the list is not fun, they aren't Kilgores. At least all of my Kilgore aunts and uncles were fun loving people and there were 10 kids in my father's family. Where do you fit in or is that a long story? Talk to you later. Toodie Kilgore Nistler
Hi cousin Randy and all my delightful cousins! Randy asks if we are Irish or if we are Scottish or both. After 37 years of genealogy research, I have determined I am a "Heinz 57" descendant. I can lay claim to any nationality, race or creed and back it up, HeHeHeHe!!!!! I am English, Swedish, Finnish, Indian, Melungeon, Scottish, Irish, French, German, Welch, Russian and Porteguese and about 50 other nationalities but All-American! I can literally take a Sunday afternoon drive down a country lane of backroads here in east Tennessee or southwest Virginia and if I see a family get-together or lunch on the lawn, I can stop and prove I am one of their cousins and eat lunch with them, HeHeHe! But one thing has bothered me since I have become acquainted with some of my cousins here on this board. What nationality or creed and which "old country" does the "Purple Boxer Shorts" syndrome originate from?? With the help of a couple of web sites, and of course my own brilliant deductions and knowledge, I will attempt to further your knowledge about our illustrious Kilgore ancestors...... The term Scottish-Irish came about as a result of England using the Scottish people as a buffer between the war-like Irish peoples and the English. England encouraged, and demanded in lots of cases, the Scots to move to the lowlands of Ulster and surrounding areas to prevent the Irish from living next to England and making war on England. Religion also played a huge factor in determining who was to be encouraged to move to this locality. There were really two great migrations of Irish (and Scottish) to Amderica. The first migration was in the 1600s and early 1700s. Those that came in this migration could not find ready land available along the sea coast because most of the land had already been taken by English settlers. The English settlers did not particularly like this influx of this unrowdy peoples, these peoples being used to several generations of war-fare with the Irish and the English since they were caught between both the Irish and the English. So under these circumstances, the so-called "Scots-Irish" tended to move very quickly into the western frontier so as to acquire land and also to get away from any form of "Big Government." They simply had the knowledge of war-fare, much better than the settlers of the eastern coast line, and the desire to be their "own boss," and the availability of free or cheap land to encourage them to become the frontiermen of our emerging great nation! The "Scots-Irish" were thus in position to be the spear-head of the move to colonize our great country from coast to coast, which they did magnificently!! Even today, this reluctance to "Big Government" and preferring to be conservative is very easily seen in our voting. When you find heavy areas of conservatism in our national voting, if you will also study the background of the peoples living in that region, you will find that they will probably be descendants of the "Scots-Irish" ancestors! Here are two URL addresses that will take you much deeper into the reasons and origins of our "Scots-Irish" and the origins of our name Kilgore. Our cousin Bill Willis, who is a stickler for accuracy and knowledge research, wrote the treatise on the origin of the name Kilgore. It is quite informative..... Origin of Kilgore name written by cousin Bill Willis: http://www.rectec.net/~rk/Kilgore%20History.htm Treatise on Scots-Irish: http://members.aol.com/ntgen/hrtg/scirish.html Enough of my chattering for now, Until later, good hunting, Jerry Penley in Kingsport, TN www.Penjaccphoto.com
