Hi David, Try this link: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mysouthernfamily/Cher_Lets.htm I think that might take you to what you're looking for... Warm regards, Randy
Thank you for the reply Randy. Seems they aren't in the archives. I may have received them from a Civil War ring I used to be part of. These were letters from a confederate soldier (name of Hicks) to his wife back home. These letters have a way of bridging the time and setting you in that place like none other I can recall. If memory serves, the sender was a wonderful lady, Josephine Bass? I will start a mission to find them. These letters are moving and if I find them again, I will share them here if anyone wants. Hi David, If they were posted on this board, they'll be in the archives. If you go there, I'd suggest just typing in those two words as the search term and they're sure to come up. Warm regards, Randy
You don't hear much from me but my computer crashed and I lost something I would love to get back. There was a series of "Cherished Letters" that came through here once. I loved them and shared them. Does anyone know how I might get them back? David Kilgore
Please! I do hope none of you thought I was CRITICIZING Gail's message to us, the lists. I sure was not, even though when I reread it, I guess it might look that way to some. I thought Gail was more or less wanted to know what the lists thought of the Cowan posts........especially , using the lists to make money . So, after reading all the messages, I can see why some are offended and , you may be right, but by no means was I being critical of dear , sweet, beloved, kind, thoughtful, (slurp, slurp......grovel , grovel ), generous, caring Gail! I was just saying this: It is ok with me for Cowan to post. And, it still is. But then, thats me. I asked for response, and I was glad to see every ones considerations. Obviously, those responding to the subject, weighed it and gave their honest opinion. That is what is important- so that Gayle can decide how she would like to go on this matter. Thanks, RoseMary p.s. I am a Kilgore Roy Kilgore wrote: > Gail Meyer Kilgore wrote: > > > What he does is signs on to all the mail lists and then posts his messages > > and then unsubs. Gail, You have my support. Nell
Ok my extra bunks worth in here. If they are not descendants of Kilgores then they do not need to be on this list. Ok some are related to Kilgores by marriage and that is still, in my eyes the same as being a descendant of the Kilgores. I agree that Gail did the right thing. It is difficult to make a judgement call like that, however, we do run a closed list to screen out people who are just want to post and run. My vote, decision, or whatever yu wish to call it is with Gail. I do not wish to see any hard feelings. I feel that the information that is or has been offfered can be obtained for free or a lot less. Ok off the balcony and on to genealogy. Dd
Hi Hope, Thank you for offering your perspective on this. While I still think he ought not be allowed to post for profit, at least on our board, you've done him--and us--a service by placing him in a more scrupulous light than my own email might have implied, something which I think Cousin Bob did well also. Warm regards, Randy
Gail, I agree we do not need anyone selling. The main purpose of our rootsweb is to do genealogy research and help one another. We do not charge to get on the rootsweb soooooo. Good job, Gail Betty and Frank
Hi Gail, I just love you! (Oops, now the secret's out!) Actually, what I want to say is that I appreciate your sensitivity on this matter. Frankly, I wouldn't want to see him allowed on the list solely for the purpose of selling us information. There are a lot of places we can go to buy information, and I doubt anything he's got is as valuable as the stuff our very own Vicki passes on to us for free. Heaven help us if she ever starts charging because I'd be emptying my pockets every week just to read it, and most of it isn't even my line! (To be honest, I think the reason she works so hard is to prove she ISN'T from my branch of Kilgores!) Lest I seem too harsh, let me say there's absolutely nothing wrong with him trying to profit from this research, but there are appropriate forums for doing so, including running ads someplace. Let him convince Rootsweb to allow him to advertise if he wants to hit this market. Or let him say candidly to the list..."I'm trying to make a buck here!"... so everyone can determine up front how he fits into the family. Hit and run tactics (sub, post, then unsub) make it less savory in my book. Okay, now that I've been a Terse Teddy, I'll slink back to my usual shy self. GRIN! Warm regards, Randy
Gail, Thank you for handling the Cowan post the way you did - you did the right thing and I'm glad that you did. Nina

Gosh, Randy....;-)) Gail
Gail, thank you for your concern for the lists and trying to do the appropriate thing in this matter. I have already explained my position/experience/results of the Cowan postings. I wish some others on the list would speak up with their opinions...so far, I haven't seen that. I wish we could see THEIR COMMENTS, they , after all, ARE the 'lists' we are speaking of here. Thank you again, RoseMary Gail Meyer Kilgore wrote: > What he does is signs on to all the mail lists and then posts his messages > and then unsubs. What he does is signs on to all the mail lists and then posts his messages and then unsubs. People respond for lookups from his post but by then he is gone. All I was saying is that he is using the mail lists to profit for himself. I am not saying that the info that he is selling is not worth the money but I hesitated in posting that info as it was a post for profit. I noticed this time he did not put a monetary amount in his post but just said to contact him. I only know what the rules are on posts to Rootsweb mail lists and I can only warn the list members of what is happening with the post that I forwarded. I did not want the list members to loose out on some possible valuable info that might benefit them so I went ahead and forwarded the post. I just wanted you all to be aware that he was NOT doing lookups but selling his info. Gail
Hi to all my cousins; I just read Sheryl's, Randys and Cuz Bob's emails. Great Idea, but one thing Randy, if you do coffee I would love the photo posted on the Wagon Train. Cuz Bob, I am ready for doing coffee with you at any time, matter of fact it could even be doing lunch. We are not that far apart, we both live in Silicon Valley. I was in Mountain View the other day, and they have certainly changed that, and parts of it are beautiful. We could meet in Mtn. View, Los Gatos, or even half way, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, ( I am on my way there in about 5 minutes) Cupertino, wherever. We could have our pictures taken, and shame Randy into having his picture taken with Sheryl. If there are any other cousins in the Silicon Valley, you are more than welcome also. The more the merrier, and I would love to meet my cousins. Love to all; Donna
Hi Sheryl! I'm in Boston every Friday at noon to teach a Bible study for workers in the downtown and financial districts. It's held at Park Street Church (which by the way, Kilgore cousins, is where "America the Beautiful" made its debut, and where John Hancock is buried) adjacent to the Commons. You're welcome at the study, of course, but I wouldn't want you to think I'm being pushy. I'd be delighted to get together, although the cousins might lynch you if you take a picture of me to post. Email me anytime and I'll arrange to do coffee after the study which runs from noon to 1. By the way, if any of you Kilgore cousins are coming Boston-way this summer, you'd better not slink through town without letting Sheryl and/or I hearing about it! Greetings to everyone else on the board! Warmest regards, Randy
OK, Cousins of Kilgore. Looks like the Daisy Chain has started ! Poor Cheryl just wanted to see the illusive Randy and have coffee and verify that such a person really exists, There are rumors that "Randy" is really a composite of Jerry, Linda the- word-smith #4, and others who wish to remain anonymous. Now Donna wishes to"have coffee". We all know what that means, eh? Next , we'd have cousins getting together and exchanging pics and homey recollections. What have we started? Dear cousins, I don't know about you but I get a warm fuzzy feeling reading Randy's postings. I guess some of us have that gift to express ourselves that humorously captures "just the right mood "and delivers it with "warmest regards". Randy couldn't be any further away from us California cousins like Donna and me( Silicon Valley). I hope Sheryl gets together with our cheerful Randy and tells us what he's like " in person". And yes, Donna ,we should have our coffee since we're sooo near.
