Vickie and all The Combs family has been doing extensisve research for years and for the last couple of years have included DNA information too.? I believe that they have they have a "digest" on their site that explains what DNA testing is, what is expected from each set of markers, etc.? I personally have not visited their site for quite some time as I have not been working on my Combs lineage.? I decided to work on my husband's Kilgore line and have been putting together a data base on Kilgores to try to establish a link to Kilgore & Jack of PA as the family tradition said that the Kilgores came from a very large family - 18 kids - and that several generations back there was some kind of falling out and our line went their separate way.? Rita Davis gave me a suggestion to look at Hugh son of Benjamin though she personally had not researched that line of Kilgores.? Soooo the data base and a bare bones :) listing of Mike's grandparents with some facts noted.? I've documented the file with census records, marriage and death records as I could find them.? I've also incorporated the work of others, giving credit accordingly, of their published information on the Internet.? MY DATA BASE IS NOT PUBLISHED, as I don't want undocumented information to get "out there". Rowe, Michael Dayton Living Self? his parents are in their 80's Rowe, Robert Dayton Living Father b. My husband joined the Daniel Family Treemaker DNA. They notify you everytime there is a close match. The Daniel Board got a group rate. One does not join for a particular ancestor but for a surname. There is already a Kilgore group on this site: http://www.familytreedna.com/ The rates are by number of markers: 12-$99, 25-$148, 37-$189, 67-$269 I have a brother that I could have tested. Hello all: My name is Roy Martin Killgore, I descend from : 1 Charles Kilgore & Martha ??? , 2 William Kilgore & Jane Henderson, 3 Henry Gregg Killgore & Frances Hayes, 4 Simeon Edgar Killgore & Lassaphine Arnn, 5 Charlie Hayes Killgore & Maude S Martin. 6. Roy Martin Killgore The only proof I have is, Henry Gregg is listed in church records as a son of William Killgore and Jane Henderson. Henry Gregg Killgore is listed in My mothers Bible. Simeon is listed in my mothers bible as a son of Henry and Frances, and in census records. ( Simeon did not like his name so, on the census records he is called first, Simpson and then Samuel) I have no proof beyond William and Jane. The rest is speculation on my part. If this is proof enough, I will participate in the DNA testing. ----- Original Message ---- From: Sherry Arnold <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, September 13, 2008 5:24:21 PM Subject: Re: [KILGORE] DNA Testing I would like to nominate Charles Kilgore (Martha) of Green Co TN. Does this mean that we are limited to using just one lab? Or does this Kilgore Surname Project collect results from different labs -what I mean is; Ancestry has a special this month for about $75.00 for 37 marker test according to Jaelene's message yesterday. This price is limited to only Ancestry's members though. But if someone used Ancestry's labs would the results get to this project or would Ancestry hold them for their own purposes? I have sent the following to the FamilyTreeDNA people with a copy to [email protected], and included a request to join the project. I understand that FamilyTree is located in Houston, so there could be a delay, considering the hurricane and all: Christopher P. Kilgore, b. GA 1953 son of G. A. Jack Kilgore, b. TX, 1922 son of William Henry Kilgore, b. TX 1878, d. TX 1963 son of Josiah Calvin Kilgore, b. AL 1847, d. TX 1927 son of James M. Kilgore, b. TN 1812, d. TX 1888. The foregoing is known and proven. James M. Kilgore may have been the son of Thomas Kilgore, b. NC abt. 1783, who is connected with Stephen Clayton Kilgore, b. 1767, either a son, or may be the last son of Robert Kilgore of Virginia, b. abt 1740, d. 12.31.1782. <[email protected]> wrote: >Kit, I am currently in contact with Grier McFarland >Project Administrator- Kilgore DNA Project. I think we should join this Kilgore project. We need the reference and our lines may well connect with one already tested. In my Walker line, we still do not know the relationship of the closest match and my first known ancestor but same time line so perhaps brothers. But at least our group now know we are family and of the same line. Before DNA testing, we thought these were separate lines. This may also prove to be the case with the Kilgores. His name is Grier McFarland he can be reached [email protected] After being approved by the administrator and given a join code,I ordered my DNA kit today. The Y-DNA--Male 37 marker paternal test. The (group) price is US $119.00 + $4.00 shipping a Total of $123.00. It can be paid for by credit card or invoice. This Kilgore project currently has 11 members. I believe that the larger the group the better the cross reference of the various lines will be and we might find a connection that will join some of the lines. If I send Jack's DNA in and someone from the other line sends theirs in and they have matching markers, that would mean that the common ancestor is across the pond more than likely. Right??? Gail

Correct, except if you changed your name from Kilgore to something else, you would still descend from Kilgore and be eligible....but might have to explain. Gladys In a message dated 9/13/2008 7:41:32 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hi all, Someone correct me if I am wrong. But I did the testing on my line (Myatt) and it had to be done by direct male descendants. So my question is does it have to be direct line male descendants (those who still have the Kilgore name)? If so, that is who we need to get tested and the rest of can help defray the cost (which I am happy to do). Ron **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? My name is Robert Lee (Kilgore) Stahn,I changed my name prior to going into the Navy.I never new my biological father,I was raised with the Stahn name. When I started doing my research I found a first cousin Jenna Scott who had all this wonderful Kilgore information and was kind enough to give me this information and saved me a lot of work. My line is: Robert Lee (Kilgore) Stahn b.1946 Theodore Roosevelt Kilgore b.1911 d. 1983 Walter Robert Killgore Sr.b.1873 d.1935 John Hardin Killgore b. 1835 d. 1901 Joseph T. Killgore b.1800 d.1860 William Killgore II b.1759 d. 1812 William Killgore I b. 1726 d. 1791. The Kilgore Surname Project at Familytreedna, has a Project Administrator. Hope this helps, Cousin Robert
I now suspect that there are 3 john Kilgores, 1760, 1770 and 1775. I think the 1775 one might be the best choice. Charles R. Someone needs to start a list: with the name of the living person and their known or suspected ancestors. Then we can select from that list, as the donations come in. Charles R. Hi, I am a member of this list, descended from Barbara Kilgore Watly. I would like to join in with helping on the funding for you project. You can count me in to donate what everyone agrees upon donating. I would love to see the lines clarified a bit more. Just let me know where to send a check when the decision is finally made.
