    3. My line is one that some of the oldies connected to but don't hear from them any more. The first three generations are a little foggy but seem likely possibilities.   Peter of Lancaster Co, VA. He was m to Ann Reed and d 1709. His children were: Peter, John, Ann, and Margaret   Peter m Mary Haydon, 1 Nov 1722, King George, VA. He d in Spotsylvania Co, VA, 1727. His estate was settled by wife, Mary and brother, John.   Peter m Rachel Hunter, Johnston Co, NC, 1762. He was in Wake Co later. If memory serves, Wake was from Johnston.   There were three Kilgore men in Wake: William, Isaac, and Peter. William had no children and Isaac went to SC and started a line there. I have communicated with some of his ancestors.   James Kilgore/Kilgow/Kilgoe/Kilgo was in Wake, b abt 1777. This group went to Jackson Co, GA. He was m in Wake and had children but m #2 to Frances Pearman in Clarke Co, 1808. I believe he was a brother to Peter, who m Jemima Holyfield. He d in Walton Co, GA, aft 1850.   William A. Kilgo, b Gwinnett Co., GA, 1812, m Rebecca Aldridge, d 1873, Itawamba Co., MS.   James Jackson Kilgo, b 1853, Marion Co., AL, m Luvenia Chism, 1879, d 1899, Muldrow, OK.   Robert Houston Kilgo, b 1883, Savoy, AL, m Carrie O'Bryan, 1903, d 1954, Ada, OK.   Fred Kilgo, b 1914, Maple, OK, d 1994, Mesa, AZ, m Margaret Elaine Touchton.   Whew! Any opinions? I have been at this a long time and this is the best I can manage.   Freda Kilgo

So it is possible it is the wrong Jesse, but his birth year is the same as yours and he is in the right county. If this is him, sending for his death certificate should give parents names (and mother's maiden name) Also, this obituary likely would give parents names. Hope this helps! Hopefully we will have seen the last of the Hurricanes this season. I assume they are brothers of James Kilgore (Kilgoar) of Newtown, farmer, 23 Aug 1771. Wife Elizabeth Jack…will posted by Vickie. 3. Freda- Glad that you got a nice visit with your son and the storm missed you. I have to Google Matagorda Bay and Bay City now. You know I am naturally nosy and need to put a "picture" with the name. But now that you are safe and sound and all the excitement has passed, you need to document the connection between all of our Kilgores. 3. I am glad you are safe and sound. You are far enough inland to be safe from the surge, correct? I never trust the authorities as to when to leave. I watch the weather closely and leave before the crowds. That is the only way not to get trapped on the road. The Rita evacuation was a real nightmare. I can see why you questioned doing it again. I thought Wharton sounded familiar. I did some genealogy for my ex husband's family. They were all cowboys, bandits and Indians from LA, TX, NM, AZ and CA. Their story is the history of the old west. It was a great experience searching for their ancestors and learning all that history. In exchange, they shared copies of old photos, like of ex's grandmother, Frankie, in 1900 with her Indian great grandmother. One of my favorite photos is of Frankie's uncle's wedding photo. He is wearing a belt of bullets and gun. He died in a shoot out shortly after that. Anyway, one of the women who was my first contact in that family has had a rough couple of years, including the deaths of her daughter and father. She sent me so many nice old photos. So I decided to make her a photo album of her photos and those I got from other family members. I thought it would be a little project but it GREW. The final album had over 50 pages. Among the photos I wrote in the old family stories, area history and genealogy. I also got old and new photos of the areas off the internet. While searching for the Texas highlands I somehow ended up on the murals of Wharton and another town of fancy doors. Wharton appears to be a neat little town with lots of character. Dennie Nina Christmas wrote: > Will send this to the board - so that if others are interested, they can also know. > > I live in Wharton, which is about 60 miles SW of Houston, going down the coast towards Victoria and Corpus Christi. It is a small town - less than 8,000 - and we really enjoy it. We live about 10 miles out from town and it is really peaceful. Another member - Freda Kilgo (whom I've never met) lives in Bay City, which is about 25 miles from us going towards Matagorda Bay, which was where they had originally predicted that IKE would go. There was a point Friday afternoon, when I was beginning to think that we had made the wrong decision to stay here. (We spent 18 plus hours on the road trying to evacuate from Rita, and I had decided that if I was going to die, then I would rather die at home. - I know that is a crazy way to think, but you have to experience something like this first hand to really understand.). > > but it did work out ok - we are safe, and are extremely grateful for that. > > Take care, > > Nina > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >

    3. I was raised on a Florida barrier island. We knew we lived in a dangerous place. When a storm came, we left. We made arrangement for our valuables and pets in a safe place. We cleaned up and fixed up the damage without filing insurance claims. I don't remember ever having outside help, not even the Red Cross. People that live on islands, along the coast and below sea level should not live there unless they have the ability to leave when necessary, have the resources to stay away for weeks or months, and have the resources to rebuild on their own. That may sound cruel but think about it. My heart is always on Anna Maria Island, but you have to be a millionaire to live there now. And those millionaires all along the Florida coast have run up the cost of insurance so others can't afford it. They are now also trying to push a new law so that the insurance companies can raise all of our rates nationwide to cover these dangerous areas. So I can't afford to live in my home, but I am expected to pay for someone else to live there. Oh I don't think so. I know have have extreme views on this subject and sound hard hearted. Having grown up in it, makes it a huge sensitive subject to me. I don't think the media should be allowed to stay in mandatory evacuation areas during the storms. Their filming tends to encourage people to stay. If it is safe for the news crews, it is safe for them.. And people who stay in mandatory evacuation areas with minor children should be prosecuted for child endangerment. And speaking of TV coverage isn't it interesting how little post Ike TV coverage there was on the big midwest floods and Galveston compared to New Orleans. OK I'll shut up now...
