Thank you Liv for telling us the story of the Ghosts of the Kentucky Derby. Well told---and I think believable! Sincerely, Ramona
Please remember Sandy and Barbara who are in the path of this huge hurricane Floyd. They are saying it is one of the worse Hurricanes seen since Andrew; I believe. So let us remember all of those in the path of Nature's Fury. Thank you, Ramona
Hi Deloros! Bless your heart--you are like me; apologize all over yourself for something you think you may have done to hurt another. I am sure Joann took no offense at your message. Our Sturgill Line goes WAY BACK IN TIME. I have mine back to 1258---which boggles my mind. Other Sturgills have taken the line back even further---I think 1258 is enough to know about one's ancestors! I am so glad you are such a caring person---and a member of Kentucky Legends. I wonder do muscle relaxers relax one's mind? If this message makes no sense---forgive me--why I am trying to type when I am seeing double I have no idea. I will blame my husband for my mistakes! He's out and about---I sit here alone in pain! BOO HOO! I'm kidding---he's baby-sitting our Great Grand Niece today is our Niece Jamie's 24th Birthday---and Steve is tending her daughter LeeAnn. Well---I have went on enough. Hi Joann, All of us here on Kentucky Legends know you are too sweet and honest a person to ever force anything on anyone. You are a giving warm person that has undertaken with love the task of opening your heart and home to children that without people like you in this world would be forgotten and unloved in some cold institution or foster home somewhere. With a heart as big as yours how could we ever think ill of you? You are a blessing to us and this world. Hi...I am a male who has been on the sidelines reading all the good things you ladies have been saying about Kentucky. I must say it is a bit much sifting through the same messages over and over. I think it would be much better if the original messages were left off. I was raised in the mountains of WVa but four grandparents and my father were born in the mountains of Knott County,Kentucky. I grew up in the country with the same language, sayings, stories, hunting, working and moonshining methods employed in eastern Kentucky. As a youngster it seemed we had relatives or friends from Kentucky in our home a large part of the time. I grew up listening to stories of Kentucky...from ghosts to feuds to romance. A few times I have felt like expressing my openion about something discussed here but I havent...More fun to read than type. A couple of things come to mind,,(1) Three to five ounces of yeast might work better than ten lbs for starting a barrel of moonshine mash. (2) I have seen a lot of apple butter made outside,,and a lot is still made that way where I live here in Virginia. I have never seen it made in a cast iron kettle. A large copper kettle is used along with a specially made stir stick about 8 foot long. These kettles are usually handed down from generation to generation. They currently sell at estate sales around here for about $350 TO $450. Now for the reason I am here. It seems there is some who think early Kentucky women might have been the most important people in Kentucky. I tend to agree. Has anyone considered the first woman into Kentucky.. the Indian and Melungion women aside. I wonder if anyone out there knows anything about her. A hint..she was with one of my great, great grandfathers and Daniel Boone on the first trip into Kentucky.. If this was considered a tough trip for men..It couldnt have been much fun for her. As people check their history books there could be some interesting comments. Don
Marvin Thanks for the info. I remember it quite well.
Joann, Since I am the only Dolores I know of on this list, I'm writing to tell you how deeply sorry I am. Apparently I offended you and that was never the intention. Knowing me, I probably read only half of your message, but I was just commenting on what a wonderful find a genealogical list like the one you told us about is. I mean having a list that goes all the way back to Adam and Eve is great! Again, I'm sorry that I came across the wrong way. Dolores

Sandy, My prayers will be with you all! I pray it doesn't hit & cause any damage! Bobbie
Well, gang - rumor has it we are going to have to start evacuating around 6 due to possiblity of Floyd hitting us late tomorrow or Wednesday so I may not be on for a while. Say a prayer for all of us on the coast - I am heading inland to my man's house in a couple of hours. Delores; I really appreciated your message and the thought and knowledge that came with it. I had not thought about the Kings doctoring their lineage to make it look like they came from a lineage that they did not. It is very possible. This is considered documented material and probably the best any of us might get our hands on. As I told Mary, we can use it as a starting point, atleast. It was something special to me and if I offended anyone offering it, I am sorry. I am a Mormon and hence that is probably where alot of my desire to do my genealogy comes from, besides me just really loving the history of my ancestors. I would not push anything or my religion on any of you for any reason. I enjoy greatly our line and love your stories and family history as well as the recipes. You are wonderful ladies and gentlemen and I am greatful to be connected with you. Good Afternoon, Everyone! Thought I'd check in for a few moments. Ramona, thank you so much for your kind words! It was appreciated very much & touched my heart. I'm sorry you are having your own problems. You take it easy & rest that back. Don't worry about the list. There is enough on her now to keep it going. I might not be able to post as much because of sickness in my circle of friends & family at this time, but I will as I get the time. You follow doctor's orders! Hear? Hope everyone is having a great Monday! Bobbie
Mary, I'm sorry. I thought your message before would print out, too, if I just hit reply. I was referring to the documentation you said listed royalty leading all the way back to Adam and Eve. Dolores
Ramona, You just can not fall apart!!!!!!!! We need you. A good idea---- give that old back some rest today. Hope you feel better tomorrow. Barbara
Hi Mary been busy gettting ready for the hurricane. Bringing in furniture, getting water, and things in order. Been mostly monitoring the weather channel. barbara

Girls and Gents it seems as if I am falling apart---joking. But I just got back from my Doctor's and she said I must rest my back the discs in my back are pinching on the nerves to my legs; so I have lost the reflexes in my right leg. Sorry to go on so--but I wanted you all to know why I will not be so active on the page today. More good books to read: The Ballad Novels by Sharyn McCrumb: The Rosewood Casket She Walks These Hills The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter If Ever I Return Pretty Peggy-O And her new Ballad novel based on the her ancestor Frankie Silver who was hung for the murder of her husband; it is called: The Ballad of Frankie Silver---I can't wait to start it. Her books are wonderful---I think you all would enjoy them. I must go take my medicine and lay down---everyone have a great day; and I hope this pain is better by tomorrow. Sincerely, Ramona
Hi List, grin, gt my foot in mymouth guess may as well run the isk of twisting it, right? There is at least half a hundred of iffys of Derby fame. Some are obvious tales some are could be's . I had hoped some "local" might have a more sure legit version..............# 1 the old races....... the rich Va. Col. bet his last $500. on a real good young horse but a "poor" owner's horse won. The rich Va. Col. was found dead in the stall. no weapon found........so he watches his horses racing around the track......2 days before the race........3 days after... the horse & Col found dead and ditto. The daughter of the rich non winner ditto......a young jockey was killed during race he still rides on moon lite nights. Many owners can be seen wakling up the stairs, and etcs. The radio announcers see acouple ( lovers) sitting at a table in front of their booth. Some one turns their mikes off and / or on. someone sits in the third chair when the race is being run. The the people that gambled stay near that stand. Or horses re run the race or just one horse is still running, with and without the jockey............any one know if any are factual ? or tales that spring up on any famous place or thing? Liv
No mail from all of you Kentucky Legenders this morning? Is everyone sleeping in? I know, everyone ate too much from all those wonderful receipes we've been reading. Mary
