Hey Joann, I worked for a Judge last November...he's retired and was just sitting on assignment... and after we got to talking, he helped me a lot in pointing me in the right direction to find the nearest Family History Center, as he is a Mormon. He was a super guy and I genuinely enjoyed his stint. In California, retired judges may sit on assignment after retirement... so he lives in Sequim, Washington and he and his wife bring a "fifth wheel" down and they live in Southern California for 3 months in the winter while he's sitting on assignment and then they go back up to beautiful Washington for the rest of the year. I went to the Family History Center near me a couple of times and everyone there was so helpful and pleasant. I'll probably go back - I found some census records there that confirm my grandfather's writings. Kay

Dear Fellow Legenders, Elizabeth will be leaving us for a while to go on a Genealogy Jaunt. Let us wish her a safe and wonderful trip. I know we will look forward to her return. Ramona
Ramona I Emailed her and told her that the phone circuits down here are really busy, an overload on people trying to call in and call out. Hopefully she is on her way to safety, as things are still rather calm now. It is going to hit tonight or tomorrow.
Hi Doloros, Is everything Okay with you and yours? We are all watching and praying with Sandy, Barbara, and Nancy; whose mother is caught in the storms path. What a terrifying night for our friends and their ones. Please let us know everything is okay with you. Sincerely, Ramona
Barbara; Be careful. I have been down there and through the outskirts of one not nearly so bad. This can be so dangerous. That is something I would never want to go through again. they are already talking about this being a category 5. If you think there is any chance of it coming in there, leave as early as possible. You sure don't want to be caught out on the road. Traffic moves so slow going out. Remember that you can replace your material things, but you cannot replace your lives and there are alot of people that care about you. Mary; thank you so much for your heart felt message. And reminding that none of us are really sure. Thank you so very much! Fellow Legenders, This is from our Nancy---her mother is in the path of the storm and Nancy cannot get in contact with her. How frightful for Nancy this must be; I cannot imagine the fear of facing something as powerful as this storm is. Delores You didn't offend me and maybe I even had the wrong person. No time for hard feelings. I was trying to explain what the file was, but let's not any of us feel bad. This is our special place for friends. We are all friends and by explaining to one another what we don't understand we all grow. No offense, hard feelings, or otherwise. I appreciate the fact that I am accepted with you all knowing I am a Mormon. There are alot of wrong ideas and misconceptions out there about Mormons and it is nice to know that many of you are using the genealogy libraries and not offended at me, because I am LDS. I consider all of you my good friends. Because of my children's medical problems, I have little contact with the outside world and you all have opened up a new and wonderful world to me. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! And Delores, thank you for coming to me and explaining what I had misconstrued. Actually I (Sandy) am still in town. The mandatory evacuation has been put off until noon tomorrow . So that gave me more time to pack things up , put things I could not take up high and secure as much in the yard as possible. the family history stuff was the first to get put in the car. Computer will go tomorrow morning. I trust the house can with stand the wind , but the flooding (they said it could go as high as 20 feet with a direct hit) is what I am worried about. I am praying that the trough comes down and forces the storm away from land. Barbara - you be careful. I have been through hurricanes before , but this one scares even me. Thanks for everyone's concern. what a neat bunch of folks. Take care! Joann, Do not be concerned about offending anyone when your offer was genuine and from the heart. I can speak only for myself, but, how can we really prove any documentation that we use to verify our ancestors. I have found original census records to be wrong due to the inability to spell names correctly, or because someone might have given the wrong information to the census taker for whatever reason, death cerificates wrong because the person giving the information gave a wrong maiden name or spouses name. The ONLY way we can know for sure is to have known the person while they were alive and I found out the hard way that is not always 100% either. My daughter was married to a man for 13 years and had 4 children by him only to discover he had used an alias when she met & married him. So this man that I knew as one name for 13 years really had another birth name, and the name that he used, I found to be of a person who was still living that he had stolen his identity from. Talk about problems with the IRS, the real person had them. Sorry to get off on this personal stuff, but wanted to use a good example to show why nothing is certain, sometimes even if you know them personally. And thanks again for passing on any information you think might be of help to others. Mary
Barbara, Please do not wait too long. Looks like a bad one.
Hi everyone we are still here, waiting to see if Hurricane Floyd will make a direct hit here in West Palm beach, or take a turn and go further north. Either way, we are expecting high winds and a really bad storm. Thanks for the concern. I know Sandy said she left town , we are going to stay as long as we can. We have two birds that are like children to us and we just feel better staying here. My son in law is prepared to hop in his truck and come over from the West Coast if we need him. My two grandsons called me and were just crying. they were so upset. one is 5 and the other 7. They were afraid for their grandma and grandpa. Had to calm them down and tell them we are going to be okay. will keep in touch. Staying on line as long as I can. One eye on the computer screen, the other eye on the tv set watching live coverage here on the hurricane preparations. barbara
Hi Dolores, I believe that was Joann that sent that message, however, she did answer and say that you could obtain the document from the LDS library. Mary
Hi Barbara, Hope you all stay safe during this Hurricane. I have been watching it's path on the news. Mary
