" Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels." Hebrews 13:2 This verse and the following were taken from the newsletter of the Angel of the Garden tea room and restaurant in Waynesville, Ohio: " We stepped out of the Victorian era momentarily on 17 July during our 'Simply Betsy Ross' candlelight dinner, which attracted several from Columbus and Dayton. The atmosphere was patriotic, the cuisine, adapted from Quaker recipes, delectable. The entree consisted of Breast of Chicken with fresh pears in cider cream sauce, accompanied with Dilled Summer Squash and Rice Pilaf. The main meal ended with our version of a Yankee Doodle Dessert and Fresh Peach Shortcake. Guests were entertained with colorful, historical stories of Betsy Ross and her Waynesville kin, along with the history of Quaker cooking. It was learned that Quaker cooking was a matter of nuance and those Quakers of the period preferred tea over coffee. Quakers of the 18th and 19th centuries also liked afternoon teas and lavish evening tea parties." I know this is not Kentucky, but I felt justified because several of my Kentucky kin live there and in the area, and this is a nice place to visit and enjoy the historical ghost stories and tours of Dennis Daulton, the Waynesville Town Crier. Thank you, everyone for the soap ideas. I'll check out HGTV in the AM. I had to shut down tonite as a strong thunderstorm managed to find my house. I tried watering the lawn yesterday, but it rained all around here. Water, or the lack thereof, is a big deal here in the desert. Hi Leona, The Sturgills were from North Carolina and I am desperately seeking William. I though I had found William Sturgill of Floyd Co, KY but this William's children are all still with us and he was a college professor at the University of Kentucky. We can put out a call for help on the Sturgill link here on RootsWeb. Should we try that? Prayers for all of you in SC...I am not unsubscribing for FLOYD, and it looks like it might come mighty close after it leaves you...We had Fran come the same path (right through Raleigh) She took most of the trees that would bother us by falling, so we will stay here. Jeanne
This was sent to me from a friend. I think it applies to many of us! Long past midnight hours, before dawn . I jumped up from my bed, and pulled my longjohns on. Peeking out the window, the snow has stared to fall. Slipping on my overalls, I raced quickly down the hall. Rushing to the closet, grasping my old warp, I throw it over my shoulder, give the button a snap. Working all ten fingers, through the holes of much worn mitts, I stick my feet into the boots that thankfully still fit. Faster than is possible, I head straight for the door. Behind me I am dragging a sled from the years before. The wind is loud and howling, snow is blowing all around. Already what has fallen has covered white the ground. Tramping through the deepness, only my footprint to see, I head straight for the meadow; the hill waiting for me. A few more steps, I reach my goal, as always in the past I'll be the first to sled this hill, and I'll be the very last. Breathing in the cool night air, I witness the year's first snow. Perhaps this is my favorite spot, in all the sights I know. Holding tight in a world of silence, I shove off with my feet. Wind is picking up my hair, snow hits against my teeth. Traveling faster and faster, I struggle not to tip. Stretching out my snow-damp legs, I lean from hip to hip. What a big delight, this morn has given thee. As all years before have done, when it's just this hill and me. Now if I do my best to hurry, I can take another run. The sun will soon be rising, the day will have begun. But before that can happen, I must be back in bed. For whatever would the children think. ..if they knew Grandma used their sled!
Finally heard from Mom. She started to evacuate at 2:05 pm Monday afternoon. She is in White Springs FL(20 miles s. of Valdosta, GA) and 75 miles E. of Tallahassee) right now, and may move on later tonight or tomorrow morning. Trying to rest and watch the weather reports, etc. right now to see what they are predicting. Traffic in FL is practically at a standstill. Mom said one lady has talked on cell phone to her husband and children, and they haven't even made it to the interstate as traffic is so jammed. I am going to monitor weather channel here, and call her back if there is any other news that makes it look like she should evacuate further. Right now, she can't go much of anywhere with all the traffic jams. FL just has hardly any routes to go north on but the two main ones, and they are a mess. Keep praying for everyone in the path of this thing. It really looks bad for all. Nancy: benttree@bright.net

Hi All... Romona , as to you talking to much...you could never talk to much. You have done a fantastic job of guiding and stimulating this group. I think I would speak for all when I say "THANK YOU". About the first lady into Kentucky. This was a sort of tongue in cheek type of thing but does provide food for thought. Accompaning Boones First group of men into Kentucky was a slave woman. I have seen no name given for her. In later years Boones son had a young slave he gave to Boone named Demming Coburn. He was apparently freed by Boone, married and had a family. He was Boones constant companion as long as Boone lived. Boone spent his latter years hunting, trapping and exploring in the company of Demming. Demmings Family was buried in the same cemetary as Boones family and Demming was buried beside Boone. I cant say, but think the chances are that Demming was the son of the woman that accompanied Boone into Kentucky. I dont have the Geneology records here at the moment but belive my ancestor who was with Boone was David Coburn. Don
