    2. I remember the sunbonnets. Grandma was a great seamstress and sold for people other than family. She would make her own out of feed sack material. Does anyone remember the chicken feed that came in pretty flowered feed sacks. I have worn many a dress made by my mother or grandma made from them and they were very pretty. Most of the time she made me pinafores. Does anyone remember those? Mary

    3. Sunbonnets: I have the little red-checked sunbonnet my brother wore as an infant 60 yrs ago. Mama made it to keep his head from getting sunburned. It is so cute, made just like the ladies' bonnets. I have another bonnet I made about 20 years ago. It has buttons that cause it to lay out flat when being ironed. My mother used to make her bonnets. All the elderly ladies in the neighborhood wore them for gardening and when they went out to pick poke. 3. I remember the sun bonnets and long dresses. I remember the men, including my father for a long time, thinking it was horrible for a woman to wear pants and woman's place was in the kitchen or house, not the work place, that was the man's responsibility. Infact Dad died this year believing women are suppose to stay home with the family. My mom still doesn't feel comfortable in pants. She always has wore dresses or skorts, because she felt like that was what she was suppose to wear. 3. I sure didn't picture that horseshoe wreath they put on the horse in the 'run for the roses'. I was trying to visualize some little rings that looped together---now you see what kind of imagination I have!! I knew I wasn't familiar with anything like that. But, then, I know nothing about horses either....... 3. HI! I have ancestors who came from KY, so I signed on here to get a feel for their lives. They lived in the Glasgow area, and, for all I know, I may have relatives that live there still! For the woman who wondered how many pictures to put on the page. Why not make several small pages, each with picture(s) on them. That way each page won't take long to load, and we who click will know what we are getting into..... Just an idea. Thank you for the welcome! I have been to KY when I was 16, and it is a lovely state. When my two kids, now in college were in 4-H in high school they came to KY, to the Bowling Green area and stayed with host families. They had the most marvelous times with their host families, and have stayed in touch with them! They are hoping to go back to visit. Sherry

    2. Sorry Bestsy, I must have replied to the wrong person. In answer to your question about asthma, I don't know what tree limb she used but slippery elm bark tablets are taken for asthma. In my Natural Healing book it suggests echinacea, horsetail, juniper berries, licorice root, MaHuang, pau d'arco, bee propolis, and slippery elm bark. The pau d'arco tea acts as a natural antibiotic. Lobelia herbal extract is helpful during an asthma attack- it is a bronchial smooth muscle relaxant. Mary

    2. I have been to Natchez, MS and had one of the best meals that I will always remember. We ate at the Cock of the Walk and had Catfish, fried potatoes, greens and cornbread. All the food was served in cast iron skillets and we ordered for 4. The food was brought to the table in the skillets, just like one would serve from bowls. It was delicious. I still have the menu and information on it somewhere. As I recall the restaurant originally was built as a place for fishermen and boat people to come and eat and trade their wares. Mary
