More Good News! We have been given permission to go ahead with the Scavenger Hunt. The way this is done: Send in your elusive ancestors and where you know or think they last were---what state--what county---what year. Also send in (if you have any information) names of spouses, parents, siblings, children. This is a volunteer group effort---someone will volunteer to check old census records---another cemeteries listings---military records--- the listings on GenForum and Ancestry.com---old books in our local library---old marriage records---write look-up volunteers in the counties we will be researching---and anything else you can think of. We post the information as we find it and hopefully we can help those seeking information on their past fill in the blanks in their family trees. Let me know what you think. Sincerely, Ramona
I am beginning to think I should not have subscribed to this list!! <G> This is the most acitve list I have ever been on and the computer addiction I am already inflicted with is going to get worse! Do the ghost stories have to be Kentucky ones? I am in savannah, GA and watching Floyd, too. This is a bad looking one and we are overdue since we have not had a hurricane since '79 when David struck. The mayor of Savannah is named Floyd so we are hoping this is not an omen ! <G> Sandy barbara wrote: > Ramona, > > In answer to your early question, No, I do not know where the ghost story > of the Sailor and his peg leg started. > > Isnt it strange that back in the late 1800's, grown men would sit around > the fire at night and tell ghost stories. > > > and in the late 1900's, grown women would sit around the computers at > night and tell ghost stories. > > Barbara, who is watching Hurricane Floyd very close, as it is predicted > it may hit here. > I am just north of West Palm Beach, in Stuart Florida.
You have one very famous Kentuckian in Tucson, Mary. Do you ever run into the best selling author, Barbara Kingsolver? I enjoyed her book about moving from Eastern KY. to Tucson, and other stories, HIGH TIDE IN TUCSON. Elizabeth in IL., but a Kentuckian forever! My BAKER Genealogy: http://www.wiu.edu/users/mfeak

Hi, Most of those who are in the process of writing books on the Fraley's correspond regularly. We have traded info and ask one another about our ideas and brainstorm alot. I think this makes for a better understanding of the family as a whole. Moving the grave sites of loved ones can be an expensive experience. Are the cemeteries in bad repair or do you just want them closer to loved ones? If the cemeteries need fixing, you might contact local civic groups and scout groups. Scouts sometimes take cemeteries on as a special project and I have seen some wonderful work. Later they feel such a close bond, they even go back and plant flowers in the spring and keep it up on a regular basis. Otherwise, you might look for family members on the net and ask for contributions. You may be surprised at the number of persons willing to help with the costs. I just recently received several photocopies of pages from an old Fraley Bible. These are my first such momentos for the library. I am thrilled. Penny
Ramona, In answer to your early question, No, I do not know where the ghost story of the Sailor and his peg leg started. Isnt it strange that back in the late 1800's, grown men would sit around the fire at night and tell ghost stories. and in the late 1900's, grown women would sit around the computers at night and tell ghost stories. Barbara, who is watching Hurricane Floyd very close, as it is predicted it may hit here. I am just north of West Palm Beach, in Stuart Florida.

Ramona - What do you mean by "plain format"? And why are vulgar messages coming across if you do not use plain? Ramona The best way to describe Icq is go to the website www.icq.com it is a program to download, free, and is an instant message service. I really like it, I can "talk" to my sister, daughter, both at same time, privately in a chat session. Check it out. Barbara

Hi Barbara, What a good haint tale. Gramma Ruth Fraley Smith always thought the land got hainted with the ghosts of the past. So even after the old houses were torn down---the hauntings continued. Hi Sherry! We will get our Ghost Tales going---I hope by tonight. Thank you for posting the date of the Kentucky Folklife Festival. I was just a kid during the big polio epidemic and one lonesome kid, too. I wasn't allowed off the farm all summer long that year, so had no contact with any kids other than my little sister. I can remember being so disappointed at not being able to go to the State Fair that summer. > I checked on net and found the dates of the Kentucky Folklife Festival in Frankfort for 1999. It's being held Sept. 16-18. It's held in the town square and then some of it spreads out to other areas. There's music almost non-stop all day long and up into the night. I did research right there in the KY > Historical Society building, then would take breaks when my eyes wore out and go out and listen to the music. > Sherry in Arizona > >
Hi Penny, Thank you for your Bio and I have one question. On the Fraley Book--are all the Fraleys writing Books sharing info? I know there is another Fraley Book being written on the Fraley's Military History. Regarding the Memorial Library--my family of Fraleys was disturbed that Fraley Kin and been forgotten in the old Cemeteries and we would like to bring them to Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook. Any ideas on this.
