Bobbie; I asked Winfred King about the Kings in Whitley County, he said he was not related as far as he knew. Atleast we tried. Hi, I was fortunate enough to hear Barbara Kingsolver read from her book "The Bean Trees". I've been a frequent reader of her stories since then. I haven't made it to "Poisonwood Bible", yet, but I will. Judy Benson, AZ -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth A. Speaking of KY Derby, when I was first married I lived right behind Churchill Downs on Southern Parkway. On Derby Day we didn't leave the house. All the neighbors used their yard for parking lots. That was back when all the ladies wore the big flowery hats. I would watch out the window as the ladies walked to the Downs, admiring their beautiful hats. I don't recall anything about a Derby ghost, but I can tell you--those stables smelled all the way to my house..........Pat -----Original Message----- From: Ramona <kywy@zoomnet.net> To: KENTUCKY-LEGENDS-L@folklore.rootsweb.com <KENTUCKY-LEGENDS-L@folklore.rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, September 12, 1999 8:37 AM Subject: Re: [KENTUCKY-LEGENDS AND FOLKLORE] more stories >Hi Liv, >Do you know the ghost stories about the Kentucky Derby? >We would love for you to share them with us. >Ramona > >----- Original Message ----- >From: Olivia Haughn <Evvia@webtv.net> >To: <KENTUCKY-LEGENDS-L@folklore.rootsweb.com> >Sent: Saturday, September 11, 1999 1:23 PM >Subject: [KENTUCKY-LEGENDS AND FOLKLORE] more stories > > >> I loved the boogers and haints a book on some ones list.....How about >> sharing some of the legends?????? Absolutely, Bobbie, you have my prayers. And the family of your dear freind, also. Kay
Everyone, I've enjoyed all the posts that I've had a chance to read so far. Would love to comment on some of them, but I just haven't the time right now. I've a busy day ahead of me, & one that I'm not looking forward to. I just had a dear family friend die last week. Well, another one died Fri. morning & will be at the funeral home tonight. And I also have a very special request. My best friend during high school & after is very sick. She had a 9 hour surgery last Sat. The diagnosis: Cancer of the pancreas. I got a call yesterday evening. Her kidneys & liver have shut down. Would you please remember her in prayer? She is in ICU, & I can't get in to see her. I thought about telling a fib & saying that I was a sister, but I would be taking time away from her children's precious time with her. I hope to be able to get the chance to tell her how much she has meant to me. If I don't, then I hope she knows already. Thanks to all to say a prayer for her. Bobbie
Bless you Kay. Ramona, That's great. Maybe we might connect if I ever get any more info on my Kings! My Grandpa Bridges was a redhead. He married my Grandma King, who was also a redhead! Guess that's why all 10 kids had red hair. Bobbie
Elizabeth, Did you see the bio on Barbara Kingsolver on PBS Thur. night? Bobbie
From: Sandy <kfan@earthlink.net> What do you mean by "plain format"? Rootsweb lists subscribers are supposed to use Plain text in their messages. I had heard that they had fixed the problem & would change your text for you, but I set mine up for plain text only. To do this, look at the top of your screen & click on "Tools". Then click on "Options". When another screen pops up, click on "Send". At the bottom of that screen, under "Mail Sending Format" & "News Sending Format", put a dot in the PLAIN TEXT . Then click "Apply". I use Microsoft Outlook Express, so it might be different on another person's email. But I'm sure you will find it if you start exploring the buttons at the top of your screen! Hope this helps! Bobbie
Thanks Bobbie! That's so much clearer than my baffled attempt to explain plain format. Where in the world would I be without your help---lost! Sandy, I am sure Georgia has some good ghost stories too. I used to live in Georgia , so maybe some of my ghosts followed me there and decided to stay (grin) Savanah must be full of old memories. Ship wrecks and long lost sailors and the widows waiting for their husbands who never came home from the sea. Here in Stuart , Florida (where I live now) we have one of Refugee House that was built in the 1800's to shelter these shipwreck sailors. It is a museum now, and very interesting to go through. It is full of the orginal furniture and housewares they used back then. I just imagine there are a lot of ghosts there hanging around. I know I would not want to be there by myself at night.
Barbara and Sandy we will be remembering you and your families in our thoughts and prayers during this frightful time for you both. Sincerely, Ramona and the Kentucky Legends Listers
