Hi, I am looking for any and all references to ANDERTON in Maryland, Virginia & Kentucky. I am researching the family, perhaps in the opposite direction to what is usual. I am following John Anderton, 7th son of Roger Anderton of Lostock Hall, Lancashire in England. The Andertons were members of the catholic gentry and persecuted for their faith in the England of the 1600's. John appears in the Maryland colony around 1659. He marries Gertrude Smith and has at least two sons, John Anderton II & Frances Anderton b. abt. 1670 in Dorchester County MD. John Anderton surveys a house in MD and calles it "Lostock" after the Mansion of his father in England. Francis Anderton has several children: Francis II James John Mary As the climate for Catholics in Maryland becomes less favourable, it seems the Andertons move on to Virginia, Kentucky.... In Tappahannock, Virginia there is an early plantation house belonging to the family called Anderton House, now part of St. Margaret's college campus. I would be really grateful to receive any information about the Andertons in MD, VA & KY as well as their spread to other parts of the States. Thanks for your attention.
