He is listed as living in Breckinridge co. He was born on or before 1779 probably. II by Ardery on page 158. It appears his wife was Margaret. =============== Alan......I would be interested in the will as we had Spencer's md into our Grass & Berry's which md into our Smeathers....BTW-might yr Jones be related to Henry Jones line ?? of Spencer co Ind ? ============================ Then thru influence of Judge GRASS of Spencer Co, was organized by an act of Legislature in session 1817-1818. Judge Grass was at this time representative fr Warrick Co. He lived in what is now Ohio Township and saw the co should be formed bet Anderson Creek on East and Pigeon Creek on west and North to Dubois Co. He had a bitter political fight with RATCLIFF BOON [ODD-Henry JONES named one of his sons Radtcliff Boone] of Warrick Co over its organization but Judge Grass won. It was Daniel Grass who had the Co named Spencer in honor of Capt Spier Spencer his warm friend who was killed at Tippecanoe Nov 7 1811. Judge Grass was also wounded at this time and walked on crutches the rest of his life. He also caused the county seat to be at Rockford"- Judge Daniel Grass md Jane Smeathers, older sister to Betsy Smeathers md John Berry. Clarissa SPENCER Sarah W. MOREHOUSE GALLAGHER RICHARDSON, M.D., daughter of David W. MOREHOUSE and Angeline SNYDER. Angeline was the daughter of John SNYDER and Clarissa SPENCER. John was son of Samuel SNYDER and Sarah BRADY John-Susan Snyder's [Grass]brother to Susan, Susan md Daniel Grass' son Alfred Hynes Grass. Thomas Spencer died in Grant Co., WI in 1855-father of Clarissa Spencer Snyder. Thomas was married to Elizabeth Berry in 1794, Nelson Co., KY, but she died in 1819. Possibly Thomas was married again and had more children? Thomas Spencer, the brother of Spier Spencer who was killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe. There was an older brother, John Spencer, married Margaret Bruce, and they had a son, Spier Spencer, born in Boone Co., IN in 1801. His wife was Mary Ann Crosley, Another Crosley md another Spier Spencer b. 1810 in Ohio. Acc. to LDS records they had a dau. named Eliz. who md. Bennett Crossly.( a cousin?) This Speir's parents are John Spencer and Mary Clopton. maybe its a 2nd wife? Clarissa's mother-Elizabeth[Betsy] Berry md Thomas Spencer c1794 [dau of Wm Berry [possible brother to John Berry md Betsy Smeathers-sis to Jane Smeathers] Wm/John also had bro Enoch Berry md Christine Dick 1804. Elizabeth Berry had sister Mary Ann[Polly] Berry as a widow md cousin Berry Cantwell 1802. Wm Berry's friend DANIEL GRASS 1805 made scouting trip to IN Terr on behalf of WM HYNES, wealthy land speculator. Prob influenced Wm Berry's move to IN Terr.
