Hello Everyone; Again I hope someone can help me with these few tidbits of info. 1. In the late 1800's what did the term "street person" mean? 2. Possible newspaper article to wit: John WILHITE born 28 Sep 1874, may have been shot/killed on 2nd St. in Owensboro, rumored to have killed a man. No idea when this supposedly happened. 3. Information on Old Ky. Railroads, especially the K&I in Louisville. Thank You. Gary A. Wilhoite GWilho6262@aol.com

Depends on the courthouse, but in Kentucky, as I recall, Deeds and Marriages in the County Recorder office, wills either there or in the probate office. Court Records and Births and Deaths, I couldn't speak to. In Virginia, they have a "circuit court", in Pennsylvania they have a "Prothonotary" You might check this site: http://www.vitalrec.com/ for further information. Usually, I just show up at the courthouse and ask the first person I see <G>. Makes a difference as to the date of the records too. Forwarded as requested -----Original Message----- From: Susan Kaufman [mailto:Skaufman@acpl.lib.in.us] Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2003 9:32 PM To: KENTUCKY-admin@rootsweb.com Subject: Posting to KENTUCKY-L Hello, I am writing from the Genealogy Department at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We are interested in acquiring old directories, yearbooks, membership lists, etc for our collection. I am posting the following message to the many ROOTS-L lists I already subscribe to. I was wondering if you would post it to the KENTUCKY-L list or any of the other lists you administrate? If I need to I will be happy to subscribe to post it myself. I appreciate your help! Sincerely, Sue Kaufman Allen County Public Library-Genealogy ************************************************** Subject Line: Old directories, yearbooks, member lists, etc. Message Body: Have old books? ******************************* Do you have old yearbooks, club membership lists, church membership lists, alumni directories, business, fraternal, professional organization directories, any type of book or booklet that list people? Are they taking up space, but you can't bring yourself to throw them out? Well, don't throw them out - there is a place for them! Where can I send them? ********************************* The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana is interested in them. We are one of the largest genealogy collections in the United States. People visit us for all over, including from foreign countries, looking for their families and ancestors. Only have recent years? ************************************ Do you think we don't want your stuff because it is too recent? Wondering what good a 1998 directory might do a family history researcher? Many directories list members that were born in the early part of the 20th century. Increasingly researchers are looking for people born in the early 1900's. These directories are very helpful. These directories help place a person in a location at a specific time. Not only do they list names, they help the family history researcher find out more about their relative*.what type of organization, business, interests and hobbies they might have had or been involved in. We are a permanent home for your materials ******************************************************** Of course we are also interested in older, more historical materials, but a lot of us don't have those. (But if you do, think about donating those too!) This is a great way to clean out your valuable stash of things you really know you need to part with, but can't. By offering them to the department, it is like putting them in an attic. They will continue to be available, not only to you, but to others that might benefit from finding a relative, a basic goal of genealogical research. The genealogy department will be its permanent home. We don't discard our any thing we add to our collection. Let us be your attic or garage. *************************************** Think about it*let us be your attic. If you have materials you are not sure of, please contact me and we can discuss it. If you have materials you would like to send, we would enjoy housing them. Note: Arrangements can be made for postage. Where do I send them? ********************************* Materials should be sent in care of Susan Kaufman, Allen County Public Library-Genealogy, PO Box 2270, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46801-2270. To discuss your collection, please contact me at: 260-421-1225 or by email: skaufman@acpl.lib.in.us. Thank you - I look forward to hearing from you! My apologies, in advance, if you receive this more than once. Permission granted to forward to other lists as desired. For the last couple of days, everyone trying to access the KY Biographies Project (Jeff Murphy's biographies) has been receiving a "page not found" error. I've had the same problems reported today with the School Photo/Yearbooks Project. At this point, the reason is not known (the files are where they're supposed to be, but somehow everyone's being redirected to other pages that don't exist). A report has been opened with Rootsweb so that they can hopefully help figure this all out. In the meantime, please be patient, and know we aware of the issues and that the problem is being addressed. Thanks, Sherri Hall SC, KYGenWeb Project
Hello all! I am pretty new to the genealogical field and as you all already know, it is quite fascinating! I have discovered that the majority of my ancestors are from Kentucky....unfortunately, i am in Florida, which makes looking for info a wee bit difficult. I would be greatly appreciative if anyone can give me any of the following info. I am looking for a death certificate for Nancy A. Yates from the Kentucky Death Records; Date 10-17-1938; Age 99; Place: Ohio County, KY; Residence: BEDS; Volume:052; Cert: 25735; Death Vol.: 38; and Marion Yates, also from the Kentucky Death Records; Death Date: 11-20-1911; Age 75; Place: Ohio County, KY; Volume: 074; Cert: 29564; Death Vol.: 1911 Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! Dellamarie Yates-Potter

May 11, 1801 Breckinridge County KY SAMUEL and KATHERINE, his wife, to JOEL TULLIS for 30 pounds, 3 lots in Hardinsburg. The 1800 Tax List lists SAMUEL SPENCER Breckinridge 8/19/1800. JOHN born about 1793 SAMUEL born about 1795 WILLIAM born about 1798 ROBERT born about 1805 JOSIAH born about 1808 JAMES born about 1813 POLLY (MARY) born about 1802 ELIZABETH born about 1810 NANCY born about 1812 BARBARA born about 1814
