Hello Everyone: Those of you who are working on your lines back to your 1600s American Ancestors will find the1600s Ancestors Data Base to be of great help. My recent postings to the Data Base has taken it to over 26,500 Ancestors who have descendants living today. I have also added several National Societies who have proven many of these Ancestors. Also at this time a few new respected Reference works that contain thousands of sources including some of the early colonists who have Royal Blood lines. All the entries are coded to indicate to which reference work or which National Society has at least one of their proven lines. Several of the National Societies have over 20 different lines from a single Ancestor. When you enter the 1600s Ancestor Data Base be sure to look at the top of each data page for the link that takes you to the "Data Base Information Page" Here you will find the codes and references listed and how to use them. This is must reading to understand the Data Base. We are constantly updating the Data Base with additional Ancestors added as time permits. You will find the 1600s Ancestor Data Base at: http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/ Everyone has FREE access to all our web site and the reports contained there. Does anyone have an ancestor who live in Kentucky between 1785 and 1820, who had an indentured boy or young man by the name of Thomas Grant? I am seeking such a connection. Thomas Grant was said to have learned the farming trade via a family who took him in. He later moved to Maury County, TN and was noted in the Maury County Court records in 1823 and lived in the area of the county that became a part of Marshall County in 1836 and where he died in 1838. Hi, Is anyone researching Kentucky LANTZ's? I am looking for information on my grandfather, Walter Lantz who, I think, was enumerated in Haymond, Letcher County for the 1920 & 1930 Census. The Walter Lantz listed in those records has a wife, Corsie (or Carsie) and a daughter, Esta and a son, Delbert. He is the same age as my grandfather and was also a miner. So far, I have found no other record of the family. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks, Fred Lantz

Hello All, I've known all my life that my Ggrandfather BRIDGES (1866-1949) was born and died in Robertson County, TN. Today, on a lark, I decided to find out what the 1880 census had to say about him. It took me a while to find him because he was not even in TN at that time. But, thanks to www.FamilySearch.org , I did find his 1880 information. I knew that both of his parents were already deceased, but I had just not thought about where he was living. Well, he was in Logan County, KY with his mother's brother, his maternal grandmother and several other people. So, just for reference, here are the people who were living there together. I answered Dick privately, but for the others interested, KY did not have a centralized Marriage database until 1973. Prior to that, the records are at the county level, at least the ones that survive. Many have been lost to courthouse disasters - floods and fire the main culprits. The further back you go, the fewer records survive. ~Sherri -----Original Message----- From: Judy Arnold [mailto:judy@ntacustomjewelers.com] Sent: Friday, October 17, 2003 7:23 PM To: KENTUCKY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KY] Re: Ky Marriages Dick, Very good question. Due to the fact that many courthouses were burned during the Civil War, many of the marriage records were destroyed. Some counties have done a reconstruction of the marriage records based on various other records (some even asked the folks to come in and tell them of their marriages). It would seem to me that one website listing ALL the marriages in Kentucky (which was a major throughway for migration) would be an almost impossible task. Try the various county web sites. My gg grandfather was John Matthews (b. bet. 1810 - 1816 in Hopkins County, KY, d. abt Feb 1846 in Hopkins County). My gg grandmother was Mary Ann McKinney (b. abt 1816 in Hopkins County, KY, d. abt 1870). They had 4 sons and 2 daughters that I know of. I strongly suspect that John was a sibling of Rebecca Matthews-Robertson (b. Oct. 17, 1812 in KY, d. Nov 18, 1881 in Fayette County, IL, buried in Little Hickory Cemetery, Hurricane Twshp, Fayette County, IL, married to Ebenezer Alexander Robertson [cousin to Mary Ann McKinney]) and Greenbury G. Matthews (b. 19 Oct 1808, prob. in Hopkins County, d. 20 Nov 1865 in Hurricatn Twp, Fayette, IL, buried in Little Hickory Cemetery, Hurricane Twshp, Fayette County, IL, married to Malinda Fox). I also strongly suspect that he/they were children of one of the brothers, Peter, John, James, or Isaac Matthews who lived in the area when John, Rebecca, and Greenbury were born. As additional circumstantial evidence, John had sons named John and Isaac, and both Rebecca and Greenbury had sons named James, John, and Isaac. I would appreciate any help I can get.
