    1. [KY] worms, etc
    2. Nancy T R I C E
    3. Good Morning to everyone. I hope each of you had a nice turkey day! I've been on a diet for the last couple of months and I think I shot it all to hello and back. <grin> My reason for writing this morning concerns the worms, viruses etc that are hitting us now. I wish I understood what pleasure these idiots get from writing these things. <shrug> Anyway... over the past few days I've noticed an awful lot of emails that contain these nasty little things making it to my ISP but being captured by them, cleaned and then forwarded on to my inbox where I can check them and if I think it was really something I wanted or needed I could contact the sender. What is different you might ask? Well... they are all supposedly coming from RootsWeb mail lists or RootsWeb list admins. Here's just a few things to watch for and keep in mind so you don't become infected... RootsWeb does not allow attachments on any list... if you get something that looks like it came from a list and you aren't on that list, delete it unread. If you get something that looks like it is coming from a list admin [the From: addy is something like kyhopkin-admin@rootsweb.com or kyhopkin-d-request@rootsweb.com], delete it unread. Rootsweb forwards email sent to the admins at those list-admin addy's to the list admin, but we can't send mail from those admin addy's... it's definately spam or worse. Also note that you will NEVER receive email from list-d-request@rootsweb.com... when request is used in the addy it is sent TO the server and indicates a command that the server is to do... such as sub or unsub the sender to or from that list. If you get something from anyone, even a friend, and it has an attachment, quaranteen that email until you can contact the person it came from to confirm they sent it. A good rule of thumb is tell everyone to send you an email first to let you know it's coming and tell you what the subject line will be. Delete it unread when it comes in if it doesn't have that subject line. That's kinda harsh but we can't be too careful these days. I'm sure that some of you have other "rules" that you follow to try to keep yourself from being infected. I'm equally sure that a few don't do anything at all and one day will be sorry,. ;-) One of the things I have done is to use MailWasher faithfully. I never download my email without running it thru MailWasher first and I highly recommend this FREE software. You'll find it at http://www.mailwasher.net I have one caveat... MailWasher has problems when used with Windows ME. It works fine with 98 and also with XP. Another trick is figure out something you can do with your own addy so that folks you correspond with will know it's really from you. For example, if your addy is: joeblow@myISP.com You might have your email program set to show: FROM: Joe Blow "joeblow@myISP.com" If Joe Blow's addy is spoofed by one of these worms/viruses etc it might look like this: FROM: joeblow "joeblow@myISP.com" You know it's not really from him because his name is wrong before the addy. Take a look at the FROM: line on this email... if you get something that looks like it is from me but the FROM: doesn't have Nancy T R I C E you know it isn't really from me. ;-) Enough already... this is longer than I intended. For those of you still reading, I hope I have given you some suggestions to help you. Have a great rest of the weekend! Best, nt

    3. Hi, Joe in Idaho. Thanks for writing. My line of Clarks began in England when Michael Clark with his wife and son Micajah Clark sailed to Barbados. Later Micajah moved to Virginia Next in line was Christopher Clark, then Micajah Clark II, then Robert Clark, followed by William Clark, William P. Clark and William Pennington Clark who was my grandfather. I don't recognize your names, so I guess you are in a different line. Let me know if you think there could be a matchup anywhere, OK? Anyone know this family that Clarissa Berry is from...thanks for any assistance, Nena From: Sandi Gorin <sgorin@glasgow-ky.com> To: KYBIOGRAPHIES-L@rootsweb.com 9925 BALLARD CO - NEVILLE, R B - Neville, Berry Histories and Biographies of Ballard, Calloway, Fulton, Graves,Hickman, McCracken and Marshall Counties, Kentucky A Reprint of Part H of Battle. J.H., W.H. Perrin and G.C. Kniffin. Kentucky: A History of the State. First Edition. Louisville, Chicago: F.A. Battey Publishing Co.,1885 Ballard Co. R.B. NEVILLE, Ballard County, was born September 27, 1822, in Montgomery County, Tenn., and is one of twins who were eighth in order of birth. His grandfather, Joe Neville, was a native of South Carolina, was born in 1789, and there his son, George Washington Neville, was born in 1772. A the age of sixteen, the latter accompanied his father to the vicinity of Nashville,Tenn., and at the age of twenty-two moved to Montgomery County, Tenn.,where his son R.B. was born, as above stated. In 1823, George W. moved to Weakley County, Tenn.; in 1827 to Hickman County, Ky. In early life George W. was a trader in horses, which he sold in Natchez, Miss., carrying them down the river on flat boats. There being no steamboats in those days, the stock and flatboats were disposed of at their destinations and the traders walked home. In this traffic, Mr. N. was successful, and afterward became sheriff of Montgomery County, and married Rachael Kilebrew, who bore him eleven children. Robert B. Neville, at the age of five was taken by his father to Hickman County, Ky., where he remained until 1851, when he came to Ballard County. 1849 he was married to **Clarissa J. Berry**, daughter of **Isaac Newton and Sarah Ann Berry**, of Ballard County. Seven children are the result of this marriage, all of whom are still living and five of whom are married. In the year 1872, Mr. Neville bought a farm which was near a place known as Cana Creek, and which is now the site of the town of Arlington, Ky. The same year the Illinois Central Railroad was surveyed through his land and before the road was completed, Arlington had grown to be a respectable commercial center. At present Arlington is a town of 500 inhabitants and is one of the best shipping points in the country. In politics, Mr. Neville is a Democrat. He is a Baptist in faith and practice. Throughout his life he has advocated temperance both by precept and example. In his earlier life schools were not nearly so numerous as now and most of his education, which is limited, was gained in the great world's school. He is a farmer and at one time was justice of the peace of Ballard County. (Note: The following correction should be made: "His grandfather, Joe Neville, was a native of SC, was born in 1789" to "His grandfather George Neville, was a native of SC, was b. about 1734." ==== KYBIOGRAPHIES Mailing List ==== _________________________________________________________________ Is there a gadget-lover on your gift list? He was wealthy for those times, owning much land. He had the distinction of being Justice of Peace in several communities. He died in 1797, the year George Washington finished his second term as president. He wife was Savannah Friend. Jedediah Ashcraft and his wife, Nancy Friend, and their children and Joseph Kirkpatrick and his wife, Eleanor Friend, were two other of the occupants of Phillips Fort. These two families had estates of several thousand acres of land. Joseph Kirkpatrick build a stone house which still stands in what then was a part of Virginia. The Ashcraft family later moved to the Corayson County region and took up some 1200 acres of land on Bear Creek. Jedediah was killed by Indians in 1794. Jonathan Cessna and wife, Mary Friend, settled at the falls of the Ohio River. He was killed by Indians and his wife, with her infant son, then joined her relatives at Phillips Fort. She was secured a grant of 300 acres of land. And there was another Friend sister, Elizabeth, who married first a Mr.Hinch, who died soon after. She later married William Brownfield. These five pioneer ladies were known as the five beautiful Friend sisters in the vicinity of their home, Friends Cove, Pennsylvania. Their brother, Isaac Friend, and family, which included six sons, started the Friend generation in that section of Kentucky. Now only a few of name still live there. In England, the Friend families had sixteen coats of arms. One that was brought to America had as its motto:Aude Ed Predvailibus>meaning "Dare and you will prevail." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A VERY EARLY FRIEND MARK Master builder, John Friend supervised the construction of the first building for Harvard College in 1640. It was probable the largest building in New England. Earlier he had constructed the fort at Saybrook. John Friend charged "20 pounds and eight" for his services. 3. So many have loved this particular poem. I wanted to share it with any who haven't seen it yet. MY ANCESTOR GRAND MOTHER I search for you yet do not even know your name I press on praying my efforts will prove fruitful the records do not list you or the other women who have lived and loved and laughed, gave birth, and died, the records perpetrate the myth that you were never here but I stand whole and bare my soul and vow to find you as I live I search for you in old records, in churches, at the Embassy, in small dimly lit rooms in the back of obscure libraries and archives and pour over barely readable handwritten ledgers with magnifying glass and flashlight I live on mainly toast these days there isn't time for meals or much sleep feeling as I always do, on the very brink of discovery Perhaps THIS will be the day I find the one seemingly insignificant clue, which will lead me to you although I did not find you listed in the Census Records I am not deterred, you may turn up yet, on an Immigration or Naturalization list somewhere perhaps, or maybe tucked away inside some bank of vital statistics, long forgotten like so many others, your name having become lost over the long years Your name could be lying even now amidst the millions of documents stored and locked away safeguarded in the bowels of a giant warehouse all stopped up from apathetic crowds who have long ceased their visits your precious name, lying just inside a myriad of records packed in tight, packed in to stay never guessing I would come My Poetry Website is at; (Gen and other poems) http://users.rosenet.net/poetryandroses/ My Genealogy Website is at; (check for your surnames) http://www.gaia.edu/genclass/srose/
