I'm trying to find the marriage of William R. TALLEY and Josephine MORTON in the 1860s In the 1860 U.S. census, William R. TALLEY was in Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co., TN. And Josephine MORTON was in her family's household in Nashville, Davidson Co., TN. Their first child, Georgia, was born about 1864-65 in Kentucky. Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net>

Hello Everyone; We have received a great amount of email requesting information concerning Indentured Servants and Apprentices sent to the early Colonies. It would be impossible to list the over 10,000 here so we are including an overview of the process and hope it will explain the how and why. We have titled the page Indentured Servants and Apprentices Sent to the American Colonies 1654-1686. The piece was written by Peter Wilson Coldham as an introduction to one of his excellent immigration reference works and contains much usefull information that will touch many of our lines somewhere. You will find the page located on the web site at within the Family Pages Index located at http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/families/famdex.htm On the Family Index Page enter through the link SERVANTS AND APPRENTICES SENT TO THE AMERICAN COLONIES 1654-1686. Hi Pat... Those maps sound just like what I need. I may have them enlarged at a stationery supply store as I will be making this presentation to about 150 people in a large hotel conference room. :-) I would be interested in your photos showing the countryside to portray the obsticles our ancestors faced when they began the great migration to the western country. Would you be able to email them to me? I have never been to Kentucky, so have no idea what to tell them about it except what I read on the county web sites. The particular family I'm tracing for them migrated Fleming Co, KY to Shelby Co, IN, on to Clay Co, IN, then to Mahaska Co, IA before treking across the Oregon Trail to Portland. I want to show them the obsticles and the challenges the families faced, particularly the women who had the responsibilities of feeding, clothing, nursing, etc without our modern miracles of microwave ovens, refrigerators, washers/dryers, medicines, etc. Lois in Auburn, CA
I'd like to introduce all of you to a wonderful map source: http://www.davidrumsey.com/ You will want to install the Insight Java Client, which allows you to get the highest resolution, and you can download an amazing variety of maps to the highest resolution your computer or wall chart can handle. A caution, though, you will have an icon on your desktop, which you will use from then on to access the collection, not going through the "Favorites" menu. I forgot that the first couple of times, and wasted some time trying to figure out how to use the client from the website. There are several Kentucky maps I like from this. Mathew Carey is one, Gilbert Imlay is another. I wrote David Rumsey for permission to use a clip of an Imlay map in a personal family history I am writing (for only limited publication, not for profit), which he kindly provided. I also have, if you like, a photo of a map of the trail through the Cumberland Gap and into Kentucky, that I took at the Gap Museum in Middlesborough, or somewhere around there. It probably wouldn't stand on its own, I took it so I could use Photoshop and draw the "trail" on a montage of the Carey maps. Haven't done it yet <G>. I am peppering the family histories with these graphics. Of course, I love maps, but even if I didn't, I think it gives readers a better sense of "what was there then," when coupled with a modern day map of the area. Also have taken some photos of the small farms and uncleared areas with the huge trees to give a flavor of what they faced. Good luck to you on your presentation. Hello, I found an e-mail that my cousin had sent to me a while back, and she had found a marriage listed in Bell County, Kentucky, for our great grandfather, Joseph Rice. In the listing, it says that Joseph's parents were Kentucky Rice and Mary Gladson. On other records, it says that his parents were Thomas and Mary or Molly Rice. Does anyone know anything about a Kentucky Rice or a Mary Gladson? Joseph was born in 1874 and his birth places in different records have been Alabama, Kentucky, and Georgia. Hello All: Tomorrow morning (that reads 4:30 a.m.) if all goes well between now and then my dear genie buddy is going to drive me down to Coryell County, Texas for a one-day search of courthouse records on the Langford/Lankford families. One of the families from my line migrated there and I am terribly interested in Asa Langford and his family. If there is a male descendant on the list from Asa, I sincerely wish, hope and pray that he will join the DNA Project. Does anyone know Andy Langford and his email address? He lives somewhere in Texas and is a descendant of Asa's. Asa said, in a court document when being questioned about Levi and Eli Langford regarding their relationship, that he believed that they were third or fourth cousins. Asa's family came out of South Carolina. My family were in SC also after migrating from VA to NC. I have tons of papers I named Langfordia Collection. Everytime I find new information or go back through all those papers I see something in a new light. I am just one person working alone and finding the sand in my hour glass becoming scant on the upper level. This is an activity update by, Tree Mother "She is insane, of course.
