They were the storytellers of the time and their role was to preserve the genealogies and traditions of the tribe. Today in America, we have those that we can call griot's also. They are the family members who thirst for knowledge of their ancestry. They bring life to their ancestors by their endless researching and pass it on so future generations will know their heritage." 1. Hello
    2. Le Bateman
    3. Does anyone have information on a Joseph OATES, who may have been in Christian, Hardin, or some other county in Kentucky. I do not know if he is the Joseph OATES mentioned in early North Carolina records between 1748- 1776. Bladen County Tax list show him in that N.C. county in 1768. He was in Craven County in 1764. He sold land in Bladen while living in Craven County S.C. in 1764. He may have moved to Kentucky with a son Carraway before 1812. Thanks Jacob L. Bateman III
