    1. Passing Pioneer: Joseph D. Youtsey ~ born Frankfort, Kentucky
    2. The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, February 22, 1906 After months of suffering from asthmatic, heart and dropsical trouble, JOSEPH D. YOUTSEY died at his home in Russell at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 1906. The funeral services were held in the Christian Church at that place, on Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, many paying their respects to the departed by their presence. MR. YOUTSEY was one of the pioneer residents of Lucas County and settled in Lincoln Township in 1854, continuing to reside on the farm until a few years since when the family secured residence property and moved to Russell, his wife later meeting with an accident which caused her death. Since that time he and two daughters have resided together. A few weeks since, the writer called at his home and in speaking of his family and personal career, he mentioned that he was the only surviving member of a family of twelve children and that his birthplace was at Frankfort, Kentucky, he first beholding the light of day on June 3, 1822. Following the pioneer course of the times the family drifted to Indiana where later, on June 8, 1846, he was joined in wedlock to MISS DEBORAH COVERT. In 1854 they together came to Iowa and theirs is but the history of many other pioneer families who braved the western wilds in search of homes and pecuniary independence. MR. YOUTSEY leaves four surviving children: MRS. CAROLINE MCCLINTOCK of Council Grove, Kansas, who was immediately apprised of her father's death; MRS. FLORA DOANE; MRS. SARAH YOUTSEY and son, FRANK, the latter three being with him at the fatal hour. No eulogy of his character is necessary; his life was an open book and he aimed to do as he wanted to be done by. He was dilligent in his business affairs, just to all men alike and leaves an honorable name behind which is more to be admired than marble shafts or gilded epitaphs. He provided for the present and builded for the future and was an enrolled member of the Christian Church. He believed in that standard of righteousness which conforms its theory to the practical and as he neared the end of his long journey his physical pain was sweetened with the belief that all would be well in the Great Beyond. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert September 28, 2004 iggy29@rnetinc.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm posted at this site with Nancee's permission.

    1. Clark SKINNER in War of 1812, questions
    2. While doing research on my Clark SKINNER b. 1794 KY d. 31 Oct 1856 Greene Co.IN ,I came across information that says: The Roll of Capt. Dudley Farris Company of the Kentucky Militia Detached, commamded by Liet.Col. Wm. Dudley, page 12 of 29 {Ancestry.com}, from Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812, includes a Clark Skinner. [Roll of Field and Staff, Keir's Infantry, Dudley's Regiment] He was a private, whose date of muster was March 11 1813,and was "engaged" until Sept. 11, 1813. I'm interested in finding out if this could be the Clark SKINNER above, my ancestor, or possibly the Clark SKINNER [of Estill Co.KY] b.25 May 1779 NJ d.1 Feb 1858 Randolph Co.MO. It would seem likely that it is probably the latter, since there was bounty land given to these soldiers, that land being in IL, AR and MO, which is where [MO] his family all migrated to. If anyone has the answer to this question, I would like to hear from you. thanks, N.J.Skinner White : vwhite0901@aol.com My Family Tree Page &  My Family and more "Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past." 1. Re:German settlements
    2. Does anyone know if there were areas in Kentucky that were populated mostly by German people. These areas would be considered as colonies or settlements. Someone on this list mentioned Brunner Town? Any families with German names living in Ky about 1830-1880? My grandmother was Anna Vass. That is a German name. She was born in Hart county,Ky. in 1864. She spoke German and English. Anna was also part American Indian. Anna went to Chicago,Il. Met John Hardin,He was from Texas. They married.Moved to Ca.,near San Francisco. A city named Alameda. It had a big group of German people living in it in the early 1900's. John also spoke German as well as English. I have learned that people didn't go to some new place to live with- out someone they knew going there first. Dianne Hardin in Ca. near San Francisco

    1. Re: [KY] Ky Obit Lookup
    2. David Scott Matthews I
    3. Nancy, Thanks a million for the help. Let me see if I can put some of what you found in perspective for you. I can't recall anything specific about some of the names. Peter H., Isaac, James, and John Matthews (not MY John) were brothers, descended from a Victor Matthews who immigrated to the new world (if I remember correctly) in the early 1700s. Other researchers have eliminated all of them as possible fathers for my John except James. I haven't totally given up on any of them, however. Ebenezer Alexander Sr. was Mary Ann (wife of my John) McKinney's grandfather. Ebenezer Jr., William P. (for Patton), and Joseph Alexander were Mary Ann McKinney's uncles. Now, for a little extra, just in case you run across any of these names. Because of close birth dates and places, similarly named children, and similar migration patterns, I suspect Greenbury (Greenberry?) to be my John's brother, and Rebecca Matthews to be their sister. All had sons named John and Isaac. Greenbury and Rebecca also had sons named James. Sound familiar? After my John's death, Rebecca (Married to Ebenezer Alexander Robertson) and Greenbury migrated to the same area of Illinios (and are buried in the same graveyard). Mary Ann McKinney-Matthews remarried several times (Gladhill, Babbs, Coleman, Wade) but also ended up in Illinois. I don't know where she died or is buried. I would appreciate if you'd keep me in mind if you run across any of these people. Again, thanks a million for your help! Don't hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do to repay you in kind. 3. Anyone have any info on a Fort Boonsboro?? ..Hart..or GASS ?? any info is appreciated, thanks, NS [fr my cuz] according to my grandfather and letter , he states Fort Boonsboro for Daniel--reading a old diary someone had posted, they mention, (this involves quite a few of these and I put pieces together) # 1-- A indian attack took place in 1782 where folks in fort witnessed the killing of a captain Hart within sight of fort #2--found where corn fields are mentioned outside of fort in another letter which I suppose is quite common # 3---a Dr. HINDS was also at this Fort but can't locate years when he was there? ----Now here are my thoughts??? ---if Daniel GRASS 2 1/2 (and who knows on this?) and this date of 1782 attack would put him born about 1779? [but records we found in PA say 1776] --this is about the time our HYNES came into this area---do you suppose this might be where the confusion comes in on our Dr. HINDS / Hynes. who might have been in Fort Boonsboro at this time---a couple of things add up here and age of Daniel has been a question ---I do think that this is where our Dr. confusion might be on a Dr. Hynes! more on Boonsboro diary and they also had a Indian seige late 1778-early 1779 ---a Mrs. Gass killed and three girls taken--never heard from again--gave last names of girls but slipped my mind now cuz---all three from same family--

    3. Gosh, somehow I missed the offer to do lookups for KY obits. May I impose upon you to do a lookup on my gggrandfather, John Matthews? My research indicates he was probably born between 1810-1816, probably in Hopkins County, KY and died about February of 1846 in Hopkins County. He was married to Mary Ann McKinney and they had (again - probably) six children - Andrew Bone, Unknown, Marck Cole, John A., Margaret E., and Isaac. He has really been a brick wall for me. Thanks in advance. Scott Matthews dsmatt@sheltonbbs.com

    3. If it is not too late to ask, would you please see if there is one listed for Henry SMITH of Logan County. He died in 1840. Also, how about Mary (DICKINSON) BRIDGES WILLIAMS who dies in Logan County in 1818. 1. Kerlin and O'Neil Families
    2. Meaghan Killeen
    3. Hi everyone! I am researching the Kerlin and O'Neil families. I know that the O'Neil family has connections to Kentucky and I am told that more specifically, it is Covington Kentucky. I was hoping that someone would be able to help me out and do a look up on some names that I have. My info is as follows: Annie O'Neil was born on February 6, 1863 in Kentucky. She was the daughter of Cornelius O'Neil and Maria Hannaberry (both were born in Ireland). Annie married Samuel L. Kerlin from Pennsylvania and died on March 30, 1938 in Pennsylvania. I was hoping to get a lookup in a death index for Cornelius O'Neil or Maria (Hannaberry) O'Neil. However I have no idea when they died. If possible, I would also appreciate a lookup in census records for the O'Neils. I only know of one of their children, that being Annie O'Neil. I know it is not much to go on, but I would greatly appreciate any help. I can reciprocate with Pennsylvania lookups if they are needed. Thanks!! Meaghan

    1. Stanton
    2. I have recently started research for my Stanton/Staunton line. My grtgrtgrandfather was John Stanton b. abt. 1852 in IN, His 2nd marriage was to Elizabeth Hardin in 1883 Knox County IN. One of their children was my grtgrandmother Nannie Mae Stanton. I beleive John Stanton's father was a Moses Stanton b. abt. 1809 in KY. John Stantons mother was Lydia ??? b. in KY or IN. Moses Stanton's parents may have been Thomas and Polly Stanton as they were usually close neighboors on the census records & their ages add up. I have traced my Stanton's on census records. It looks like they came to IN from KY sometime before 1844. Possible KY counties were Casey, Pulaski, and Wayne. I would love to hear anything about these Stantons. On a few census records it was spelled as Staunton. Thank you Christine
