Kentucky Genealogical Society February 10, 2001 Meeting "Death Records Before The Grave" Phyllis Vannoy Spiker contends that we will be surprised where records of a death might be found. Funeral home records will be the main topic, but other types of records to look for after death and before burial; information expected on these records and where to find them will be discussed and examples will be shown. 10:30am, February 10, 2001 at the Kentucky History Center, Frankfort. Members of the public who are interested in history and genealogy will be most welcomed. For further information call (502)597-6380 (Frankfort), or e-mail [email protected]
Perhaps one of the most interesting of genealogical records are biographies. The GenExchange has a large and well established biography project underway, where you can find over 30,000 biographies. If you are interested in viewing those biographies that are available please visit http://www.genexchange.org/biobin.cfm. Regards, GenExchange Staff

Hoping to find someone connected to this family line that has ancestral information. My gggfather Nathaniel GRISSOM was b about 1805 poss NC. I donot find him on any census in Giles Co, TN, however he m there abt 1827 to Sarah MORGAN or MORGREN poss b SC of Danish Descent. All of their children b in Giles Co, TN are as follows: Mary GRISSOM b 8 Feb 1829 probably m and lived in Giles Co, TN. William Wiley GRISSOM b 10 Sept 1832 d 5 Jan 1901 Martha Jane GRISSOM b 10 Sept 1835 Sarah Caroline GRISSOM b 8 Nov 1837 d 16 July 1840 Solomon Jenkins GRISSOM b 8 Mar 1839 m Emily Ann CREEKMUR b 30 May 1838 Hopkins Co, KY m 23 June 1859 Hopkins Co, KY. (This is my direct line) Thomas Jefferson GRISSOM b 28 April 1841 d 27 Dec 1861 Hopkins Co, KY. Sometime after 1850 Nathaniel and Sarah migrated to Hopkins Co, KY where they both died. It appears that only sons Solomon Jenkins and Thomas Jefferson went with them. At least they appear in the Census records 1860 and Solomon Jenkins still there in 1870. However Solomon Jenkins and Emily Ann headed for OK where he died 7 Dec 1926. I donot know the date or place where Emily Ann died, however some family tradition says KS. I have subscribed to the GRISSOM list for several years and nary a lead. Hoping someone here will be related to Nathaniel GRISSOM and Sarah MORGAN and can help me solve the mystery of their birth and their parents. Dorthy GRISSOM MACK
dear Carol Eve, thank you for the kind offer of look-ups. I've been trying to place my gggrandmother with her family. I only have a name and a date of 2 of her childrens birth. WATSON, Paulina one child born 1884 and another 1896. I'm sure there must be more in that 12 year time span. Paulina married Stephen A. GOODALE. Dear Listers, I have a small book entitled "Fond Memories" by Melville O. Briney with selected information about families and homes in Louisville. Many families are mentioned and the dates go back to the 1700's through the early 1900's in some cases. Also gives some detail in some of the articles about the families origins i.e.: VA, OH, MA, etc. Willing to do lookups for a period of two weeks. Please don't give up on me if I don't get back to you right away. Give me given and surnames if you have them, surnames only if that's all you have. Dates would be nice too if you got 'em. If not, I'll attempt to find out what I can and will e-mail you back. Good luck in your searches, Carolyn Buntin Eveland ------------------------------------ Make Unlimited phone calls from your PC to ANY phone in the World! http://www.eboom.com/free/

I need some help in locating the parents of Nancy E. Ashby who was born in KY on May 9th, 1822. I do not know where, but she marries in 1840 in Daviess county, KY to James Aaron Thomas, then they move to Henderson county, KY (later becomes Webster county, KY). On the LDS web site, there is an IGI record that shows a Nancy L. Ashby born about 1822 to Daniel Ashby and Cassandra Leeper, but I know that they end up in MO. That doesn't mean that they couldn't have been the parents of my Nancy, though. I just cannot locate any proof. thanks, Tina Hall [email protected] Tina's Family Genealogy Page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thall Steve's and Tina's Home pages: http://home1.gte.net/~res00waz/ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, make it dance!" ~ George Bernard Shaw +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Any information on this man's parents is greatly appreciated. Thank You, Judith KENNY, JAMES (1814-1836). James Kenny, Alamo defender, son of James Kenny of Kentucky, was born in Virginia in 1814. He immigrated as a single man to Texas in 1834, enlisted in the service on September 28, 1835, and served in Capt. Robert M. Coleman's company until December 14, 1835. He then enlisted for another four months' service. Kenny served in the Alamo garrison and died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836.
Hi List, I had told you guys I would do look-ups for any surname in MO. Well, I'm a DORK! When I did look up the surnames I only looked through the book and I just found out that in the back of the book it has female surnames..... here is an ex: If someone want to look for GRIFFITHS I would look through the book.....and I would only see GRIFFITH......no s on the end. So now that I know this female index is in the back of the book, I look both places. So if I look in the book for GRIFFITHS now....It has one GRIFFITHS and it's a female and only one by that surname. So if I did a loo-up before for you please tell me I did so that I can now look in the back also. And if its a new look-up tell me that so I will look both places for you. I'm sorry about this I hated to have to tell you all about this mistake. :( But I want to help everyone also. Thank You, Theresa Surnames: ROGERS, H.F. b. aprox 1835/36 where ? I have created an Excel 97 spreadsheet which I an using to record all of my census data that I have on paper. I like having electronic copies of records for ease of manipulation, transport and backup. The spreadsheet would also be very useful for those of you who take a laptop to your local FHC for data entry. I have posted offers to e-mail a copy to anyone interested on several lists and the response has been overwhelming. In the past 3-4 days I've sent over 500 copies. That tells me that there are a lot of people like me who have piles of census data and no good way of organizing it. The spreadsheet I created is bare except for the formatting on each page to match the particular census year data fields. No actual census data is included. I used Excel 97 to create the spreadsheet and I kept it simple so it should be compatible with most any recent spreadsheet software out there. One lesson learned so far. Excel 97 uses multiple worksheets, like pages of a book. Previous versions of Excel did not support sheets. You will need a spreadsheet program as least as recent as Excel 97. I have tried opening my spreadsheet with my copy of MS Works 5 and it does not work. I don't know about Works 6. I have received reports that Quattro Pro 8 works great. The spreadsheet has a separate page for each census year from 1790-1920, as well as Soundex pages for 1880-1920...great for tracking a single family through the years. Most of the pages will print on standard 8.5" x 11" paper. To get 1880-1920 to fit though I had to format in 8.5" x 14". Being able to print though was not really the point of the spreadsheet though since I already have my data on paper. I have also typed up a short text file detailing the page set-up parameters for each spreadsheet page for ease of printing. I plan to make a separate copy of the spreadsheet for each family branch that I have census data for. That way I can document a particular family over 130 years in a single spreadsheet. I'm sure there are other possible uses for the imaginative out there. One person commented that the spreadsheet provides a very professional appearing output for use in a family history publication. I'll file that hint away. There's nothing fancy about how I created the spreadsheet...no macros etc. So it would be easy to change the layout to suit your particular needs. The spreadsheet is 108Kb and compresses to a 19Kb zip file. The accompanying text file is just 2Kb. If you would like a copy of the spreadsheet just drop me an e-mail and let me know whether you want it as a zip file or uncompressed. Please don't post a request to this list as they tend to get lost in the shuffle. I've sent out hundreds of copies so far and those who have used the spreadsheet have been unanimous in their favorable comments. I have been helped countless times on various lists by people generous with their time and expertise. I'm happy to pay back those kindnesses in this small way.
