I posted this once before but don't think I did it right. So I am posting again with the prayer that these Youngs are known by some one out there. This seems to be my brick wall. I'm looking for any information on William Louis Young. William Louis (Lewis)? Young m. Mary Isabel Allen. , (Allen poss. being an adopted name.) They lived in Knifley in Adair County and then moved to Glasgow in Barren County Kentucky sometime after 1890. They had 5 girls and 4 boys, they are: 1. Mary Virginia (Mammie) m. Dick Montgomery 2. Clara Jeanetta 3. Susan Ella 4. Annie Lois 5."Augusta Lena"(my g.mother) b.3/18/1890 who married Ernest Hancock Cullum b.9/7/1880. He was from Davidson County, and Dickson County in TN. 6. Charles (died age 5 from meningitis) 7. Thomas (Tommy)lived in Louisville and had 1 girl 7 boys. 8. Robert 9. William Jr. who lived in Jacksonville, Fl. had 2 children that I know of, Edward and Florence. Florence married Floyd Baker and lived in Jacksonville,. Fl also. If any one has any information on this line please email me at mailto:[email protected] or mailto:[email protected] Thank you in advance for any information, Victoria Cullum McLacklin Researching Cullum, Churchill, Young, Hamlett, Hagman, McLacklan, Brock, Sullivan and many more.
I just thought I'd pass this along to all the list I belong to. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, March 17, 2001 6:50 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [YOUNG] Genealogy Scams-from another list! Genealogy scams in general: Genealogical Web Site Watchdog (only for online scams) at: http://www.ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm The National Genealogical Society's Consumer Protection Committee is quite active at keeping an eye on the various scams, including both online and offline fraudsters. If you have a question about a particular company's services, you can contact the NGS Consumer Protection Committee via traditional mail at: National Genealogical Society's Consumer Protection Committee, at 4527 17th Street North, Arlington, VA 22207- 2399. The committee also maintains Web pages at: http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/comconsumer.htm and at: http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/comconsumerpsst.htm. However, those pages do not mention specific companies. Cyndi's List has a section for genealogy myths, hoaxes and scams at: http://www.cyndislist.com/myths.htm Specific companies: I have received e-mail about the following companies; all have been mentioned as having questionable services. I have listed URLs where you can obtain further information: Family Discovery.com - an online Web site that claims to have "the Web's most versatile Award Winning collection of genealogical databases." However, they don't mention the "award" they received from the Better Business Bureau! The Bureau says, "Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaint(s)." Family Discovery.com charges $59.99 for a one- year subscription. Most of the same information is available elsewhere on the Web at no charge. In fact, many of the links on FamilyDiscovery.com simply take you to free Web sites. You can obtain the same information at no cost by using one of the free search engines. Details are available on the Genealogical Web Site Watchdog site at: http://www.ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm#Warning. There is an Anti-FamilyDiscovery.com newsletter at: http://compuright.dyndns.org/familydiscovery/ The xxx Family Yearbook - In this case, substitute your last name for the "xxx." For instance, an advertisement sent to a person named Smith would be advertising The Smith Family Yearbook while someone named Clark would receive an advertisement for The Clark Family Yearbook. These "yearbooks" claim to have genealogy information. However, those who purchase the "products" are usually disappointed. The producing company has several business names; for example, you can find them listed as Mountain West News Service or as the Mountain Pacific News Service. They also may appear as an organizational name, such as "The Smith Family Yearbook." However, all these "companies" have the same address: 1181 S. Parker Road, #105, Denver, CO 80231. The Better Business Bureau lists the parent company as MORPHCORP. The News Herald of Panama City, Florida has an article about these "products" at: http://www.newsherald.com/articles/2000/04/16/tp041600.htm Family Tree House - I wrote about this company in the October 31, 1998 edition of this newsletter. The company gives an appearance of a Web site that offers genealogy services. In fact, it does not appear to sell anything. However, the same company advertises on another Web site with an offer to sell personal information obtained from genealogists who visit the Family Tree House site. You innocently enter personal information about yourself on Family Tree House and then operators of the site sell your personal information to bulk mail companies. Information for sale includes name, address, e-mail address and more. You can read that article at: http://ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm#sells The Historical Research Center (HRC) International, Inc. sells "family histories" and coats of arms. Information about the true value of these products can be found on the Genealogical Web Site Watchdog site at: http://www.ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm#Coats. Keep in mind that this company sells franchises. A few years ago they were listed as one of the top 30 fastest growing franchises in America. You may find their products being sold by other companies who purchase franchises. One such company is Names.com, but apparently there are many others as well. The International Hall of Names in Canada also sells "family histories" and coats of arms. They are also mentioned on the Genealogical Web Site Watchdog site at: http://www.ancestordetective.com/watchdog.htm#Coats. I would caution anyone to be careful about "family coats of arms." In fact, in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and most of western Europe, there really is no such thing as a family coat of arms. In those countries, arms have always been awarded to individuals, not to families. Displaying a coat of arms that you are not authorized to use is a form of identity theft, even if you do happen to have the same last name as the original grantee. Any company offering to sell you a copy of "your family's coat of arms" is selling a bogus product. If you believe you have been the victim of a genealogy scam, you can do something about it! If you purchased products or services from the above companies or any others that you feel did not live up to advertised claims, demand a refund! If your money is not returned within 30 days or so from a U.S. company, submit a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection at: https://rn.ftc.gov/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01. A few letters of inquiry from the federal government will send a strong message to the people who produce products or services of questionable value. If a Canadian company is involved, you can register a complaint at: http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/ct01250e.html. You also might want to warn other genealogists and tell them of your experiences. You can post a message to others in the "Scams and Fraud" section of CompuServe's Genealogy Techniques Forum message board. I could really use some help on this one............... I'm looking for any infomation on the daughter of Wm.TRUAX.....Emaline TRUAX b.ca1790 / ca1809 KY have seen both dates for her??......this family was living in Nelson Co.KY when she was born, then later on migrated to Owen Co.IN. I have information that she was married to a PITTMAN....but there is NO source for this fact that I have been able to find.....does anyone have a source of this information and the marriage date and location? It is not in Nelson Co. or Owen Co.IN that I have been able to find. Next there is a marriage record in Owen Co.IN for : William A. BOLDON & Emeline PITTMAN....12 Oct 1837........Now I have these 2 people as living in Owen Co. on the census there in 1840 Harrison Twp. ages 20-30 range.....then I next find them in Tipton Co.IN 1850 census.....which has their ages as....Wm.A...34yrs and Emaline...28 yrs b.IN.....So with this in mind, I don't believe that this Emaline PITTMAN BOLDON is the daughter of Wm. and Alicy COMBS TRUAX.....because of the age....she is way too young {b.ca1822} for their daughter b. either 1790 or1809? Does anyone agree or disagree with this theory? I need others input to help straighten this out. Could this Emaline PITTMAN be the dau. of Emaline TRUAX PITTMAN?? Did Emaline b. 1790/1809 KY stay in Nelson Co.KY?? Did she die there?? Did she come to Owen Co.IN?? What really happened to the Older Emaline? All suggestions and help is Very Welcome! Thanks so much, N.J.Skinner White in [email protected]

I just finished 10 more census spreadsheets, this time covering the states of New York, Kansas, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin. There are now 26 different spreadsheets to download free from my website at http://censustools.com to let you electronically organize your census data from the U.S. federal (1790-1920), Canada (1851-1901), England (1841-1819), Ireland (1821-1911), Scotland (1841-1891), Kansas (1865-1925), Massachusetts (1855-1865), New York (1825-1925) and Wisconsin (1836-1905). Each spreadsheet has worksheets for each applicable census year, formatted to match the original microfilmed records. The New York state spreadsheet also has a page for the 1890 NY City police census. Help yourself! Gary __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'm searching for information on the family of Margaret "Peggy" LOVE b. ca1800 PA....m. Samuel T. BOLDON/BALDWIN.... 28 Jun 1818 Nelson Co.KY....I have found some evidence that her father might be a William LOVE....as he was found to be in Nelson Co. on the Taxlist 1785 and 1787. Margaret and Samuel migrated to Owen Co.IN during the early 1820's and lived there several years during that time period there was a family of John LOVE living close to them in Wayne Twp.....the age would have been a likely canidate for her father..... Another LOVE girl Polly m. Thomas BOLDON/BALDWIN in Nelson Co.KY also 1823. I'm wondering if they are siblings? I know that Thomas and Samuel T are brothers.....after these families lived in Owen Co. Samuel moved to Tipton Co.IN and Thomas to Putnam Co.......this is also where I again found a John LOVE living in 1840 next to a Lyman LOVE....another possible son. If anyone is connected to ANY of these people above and can help me solve the mystery of if they are connected to each other in anyway.....let me hear from you and I will share all family info that I have on these people. Thanks so much, N.J.Skinner White in [email protected]

Mary Ann, Thank you for the information you found. I am showing my lack of experience here, but, what is a Miracode Index? It appears from format to be associated with the 1910 census records. I am not sure about any connection. It could have been that the three-year-old Blanche Jones you found in the 1910 Index is actually a sister to Paul Herman Jones, b. 1899. Obviously it was not his mother. His mother was a Jones by marriage; Townsend was her maiden name. Does this index show other people in the John Turner household? Was Paducah in McCracken County in 1899 when Paul Herman Jones was born? That is the only city I have ever been told. Thank you. I, like Robbie Pratt, posted recently to the list, but don't think I did the following: "...prior to knowing that there was a roll call, so I > am posting again in the proper format. > > Subject person was my grgrgrandfathers, Sampson Goodman and John Linguar (Lingar). I know that John was born in NC, but both lived just across the border from Bell Co., KY in early 1800s - 1840s. One of John's boys moved after that to Lee Co, VA, but the Lingar's owned land in Bell Co, and had a cemetery there. Sampson Goodman was,( by data I received from cousins) born in Claiborne Co, E.TN, but possibly in KY. The land John Lingar got for his service in War of 1812 is on the Claiborne Co. side of the line, but other land settled was in Bell Co, just over the border along Indian Creek and the Mingo settlement. If anyone has any knowledge of these names, I would really appreciate it. I know some of the Lingars still live in KY, and lots of Goodmans settled there, but I haven't been able to connect Sampson with anyone, thanks to two courthouse burnings in Claiborne Co. I went there last summer, and saw the land....but not many records. He must have been dropped by the stork. > Thank you. I just posted to the list prior to knowing that there was a roll call, so I am posting again in the proper format. Subject person was my grandfather. His parents were Blanche (Townsend) and Will/William Jones. I believe my grandfather's brother, Charles/Charlie Thomas Jones was older. He also had two sisters, Estelle and Annie Lou, but I believe they were born later, possibly in KY or MS. I believe Will was born in TN, but his family came from Wales. That is about all that I know. Thank you. Robbie Pratt _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
My DUNCAN and ZORNES surnames are in eastern Ky, Carter, Green and Lewis Counties. I really want to find the death of Mary Zornes DUNCAN, wife of Edward Roy DUNCAN who died after 1880 and probably before 1900. I believe she was still in Lewis County. She was in Quincy, Lewis Cty in 1880. BURDGE, LANE ancestors were in Covington, Kenton County, Ky in the late 1800's. Ceal Atlanta
Is there someone with access to the 1900 Census that would be willing to do a lookup for me? I am looking for Paul Herman Jones, b. Dec 1899. Parents were Will or William and Blanche. Possibly had a sibling, Charles,at that time also. Thank you.
