Hello, For all you new comers to this list let me remind you about that Surnames of Kentucky Network at http://www.skyn.net/ky/ it is by far the easiest and the oldest Kentucky Surname Registry site. You can leave the name/s you are researching and when/if someone answers your query you will be notified by email. It also shows you how many times your query has been viewed. Please remember when making your query to place it on the correct board. It is best to give the last name first; i.e. Under "B surnames" BAILEY, PAUL 1860. 3. I have learned that my g.g.g.grandfather, Benjamin Cross was born in Adair Co., KY about 1806. He married a Sarah (Brocks) ? on 26 Aug 1826 in Pulaski Co., KY. I do not know, positively, that Sarah's name was Brocks nor do I know that the wedding date is correct. Benjamin, Sarah and family were found on the 1850 DeWitt Co., IL census. Their first child, John J. was born 26 Jun 1827 in KY. I don't know the location. The family then moved to IL. Their 2nd son, James S. Cross (my g.g. grandfather) was born in Morgan Co. IL on 7 Mar 1830. I have all kinds of information on James S. Cross. What I hope someone can give me is information on the birth of his father, Benjamin Cross in 1806 from Adair Co. KY. The Cross family bible had wonderful records pertaining to John J., his wife and children and ofcourse the James S. Cross records were very complete but NO mention on his parents or other siblings. What a shame! I'll gladly share my information with anyone. Ruth in SW Iowa

    1. [KY] LEE/LOVING OBIT from NC to KY to IOWA 1810 - 1894 Robert E. Lee Cousin
    2. Decatur County Journal Iowa August 2, l894 MRS. ELIZABETH LOVING, or AUNT BETTY as she was more generally known, was laid away in her final resting place last Monday morning.  After a continued sickness, with here and there a brief respite from pain and suffering, she closed her earthly career on Saturday. She was born April 22, l8l0, in North Carolina and was reared in Kentucky.  Her father was EDWARD LEE, a cousin of ROBERT E. LEE, of the couthern confederacy.  In l83l, she was married to WILLIAM LOVING and in l854 they came to Decatur County and settled in Hamilton Township.  They lived on an unimproved farm lying on both sides of the state line, their residence being on the Iowa side.  They lived on this place from l854 to l883, when they sold out and moved to Leon, where they have since resided. WILLIAM LOVING died just three years ago, the 28th of July, the same day on which AUNT BETTY died.  Their golden wedding was celebrated in l88l at their home in Pleasanton.  On this occasion over two hundred guests were present to do honor to them.  Since the death of her husband, AUNT BETTY has lived a quiet life at her home in the north part of town. The Loving Methodist Episcopal Church was made possible largely by the munificent gift of these friends.  They were both members of the Methodist Church, and by their gift to the Leon Society, they have made for themselves a monument more lasting than wood or stone. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Monday morning at l0:30, in charge of the Pastor, REV. GEO. M. HUGHES, assisted by REV. F. EDWARDS, Pastor of the Baptist Church.  The window placed in the church in loving remembrance of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH LOVING was draped in black as were also the chairs which they used at the church. Beautiful wreaths were made by members of the Epworth League and placed upon the casket.  The front of the church was beautified by a sheaf of wheat and a lyre of white flowers.  A large number of friends followed the remains to the cemetery, and all that was mortal of AUNT BETTY LOVING was laid away to await the last trumpet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert

    1. [KY] WILLIAM C. HEBENER b. 12/24/1840 Lexington , KY to Decatur, Iowa OBIT
    2. Decatur County Journal Iowa February 9, l893 After an illness of ten days WILLIAM C. HEBENER paid nature's final debt, passing away at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Though MR. HEBENER had been but a short time in Woodland, his upright conduct and gentlemanly demeanor had won the high regard of those with whom he was thrown in contact by business intercourse. Several months ago he came to Woodland from his Iowa home and started a marble yard.  It was his intention to send for his family as soon as the winter was over and two months ago a son, C.H. Hebener, came to aid his father in his business.  A peculiarly sad feature of his death was the absence of his entire family with the exception of the one son. MR. HEBENER was born in Lexington, Kentucky, December 24, l840.  When a young man he moved to Virginia, where he was married.  His surviving family consists of a wife and eight children, now living in Leon, Iowa. MR. HEBENER was a Grand Army man, having served two years in the First Virginia Cavalry as First Sergeant. For many years he has been afflicted with bronchitis and it was this lung trouble that made him an easy victim to the fatal pleuro-pneumonia. The body will be embalmed and taken east in charge of his son, C.H. HEBENER, who expects to leave Woodland Friday morning. In this connection C.H. HEBENER wishes to express his heartfelt thanks for the many acts of kindness shown by the people of Woodland during his father's fatal illness.                                     --Woodland (Cal.)
