    1. [KY] Paid Websites
    2. I'm in agreement with Pat. Very few of us have come close to paying our way for all of the genealogy information that is on the Internet. I certainly haven't contributed 10% of the time or money that many have given freely. i spend a lot of money every year, travelling to courthouses all over the Eastern United States, which cost a lot of money, so I should be hapy to contribute something to the multiplicity of sources available on the beloved Web. 3. Firs off, I have been searching for Lena GRAHAM b. 1817, KY father may have been William GRAHAM b. between 1790 - 1800. Second: I have to agree with Pat, I am amazed at how FAST, how MUCH Ancestry puts up information. Without Ancestry I would not have much. Of course I was able to order original documents from their indexes but then I had to spend more money, and I agree this is what I like and I don't go out and spend money either, so this is where my hobby money goes as well. I am not currently a member of Ancestry but was for a year. I do think Ancestry probably makes enough money to continue to provide the little 5 mb of space, but if you times that by how many "free" sites they have put up the sum is very large. I have read recently and I am sure many have that these genealogy websites were not prepared and have over millions of visitors everyday. Imagine the expences Ancestry has with their human resources, many of us have flipped through census microfilm or images can you imagine the $$ paid for the time of all the people out there uploading these millions of records. What a FUN and INTERESTING business Ancestry.com has made for themself and as I know it today is the ONLY inexpensive and HONEST pay site there is. Not to mention the merge with RootsWeb, smart move they have increased traffic...I'm sure. And now we are PRETTY SURE RootsWeb will not go away because Ancestry makes more $$ and more records are put up and supporting RootsWeb is a HUGE part of a genealogists life, so lets face it. We all need to support Ancestry so they can continue to support RootsWeb.com I hardly EVER express my opinion, usually just read and of course here I go and I am SO NEW to this LIST....lol Hope I have not offended anyone. 3. Hi list I don't see a problem here. I've been paying my way for my "MyFamily.com" website for quite awhile now. Seems that there may have been a "free" small site, but the paid site is much better. Of course, you don't have to have a site. Frankly, it is hard to keep one up, so it is up to you. No one visits my site except relatives I've invited. Just try to remember that "they" (whoever they are) have to pay for the servers and all the allied service to keep them up and running. If "we" don't pay for it, who will? I don't think MyFamily.com is a charity. And, frankly, even those who have been set up as "not-for-profits" are finding it hard going and some have moved their stuff to paid sites. This is my hobby. I don't golf, don't go to a lot of movies, etc. So, this is where my money goes. Pat (in Tucson) -----Original Message----- From: A. 1. [KY] charging for information
    2. Nancy Lloyd
    3. About charging for information. I some instances I can see it. But most of what some sites have is what they have "harvest" from those of us who had freely sent in to USGen Web and other places. Then they take that and put it in CD''s and charge others what we shared freely. - But people have an option where or not to buy, and some people just don't have the money to spend on that . Our children our grown, but if you have children in school there is always needs, and there are many people out of work etc. I think it would be a hardship on many if most sites began charging , but that is just my opinion. I may be able to look up some things. RC

    2. James & Barbara Kesterson
    3. The sixth annual Nelson Family Reunion for the descendants of Jave and Ellen Evans Nelson will be Saturday June 28, 2003, at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall, beginning at 11:30 A. M. Bring covered dishes for lunch, pictures, family stories, and other memorabilia for sharing. We are in the process of compiling a family cookbook, so we would like recipes from everyone. There will be fun and games for the kids after lunch. Jave Nelson is said to be a direct descendant of Joseph Anderson for whom Anderson County is named. Joseph Anderson was a Revolutionary War soldier, U. S. congressman, and first comptroller of the U. S. Treasury. He is buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D. C. Ellen Evans Nelson's parents were Thomas J. Evans and Permelia York Evans, daughter of Joseph York who was born in Tennessee in 1802, and Mary York. Thomas and Permelia came to Tennessee after the Civil War. Thomas Evans and other family members are buried in Sunset Cemetery in Anderson County. Permelia York Evans supposedly died and was buried at Clouds Switch, TN in Claiborne County, TN in 1901. Jave and Ellen's children included David, Henry, Catherine Nelson Tadlock, Frank, Tom, Cynthia Nelson Wilson, Page, Taylor, Sam, Clara, and two others who died as infants. Jave and Ellen are buried in the Liberty Cemetery near New Salem Baptist Church. Jave possibly had a sister named Margaret. Ellen Evans Nelson's siblings included Hugh Evans, former Clinton city marshall, Silas, Mary Evans Phelps, Martha, Sintha, Thomas Milton and John. Jave Nelson was sometimes called J. M. or Jabers. If any of these names ring a bell, we'd love to hear from you. You may contact: Carolyn Nelson Johnson at <mamawcarolyn@ntown.com>.
