Hi, Wondered if anyone can help me find the James G. Jones family. James G. Jones was the first Attorney General for the new state of Indiana. Our state in it's infancy neglected to fund the AG position; however, James G. Jones's signature occurs on a dozen or so documents prior to the legislature funding the position in 1821 for $200 per year. James G. Jones was married 30 Sep 1815 (license issued) in Perry Co., IN. The next day he married Lucretia Shepherd at Leopold, IN, in St. Augestine Catholic Church by Fr. Chas. Coomes. In 1861 J. Jones owned 80 acres in Tobin Twsp., Perry Co., IN. In "Warrick Co. - 1885" by Goodspeed, pg. 7 "One of the ablest lawyers of the Indiana bar was James G. Jones who succeeded Judge Panett 1869-1871. Resident of Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., IN, but lived early life in Newburg. Attorney General for the State." Pg. 53 lists James G. Jones as Coroner in 1814. Pg. 86, "James G. Jones was a member of the secret society of the Newburg Lodge #104, I.O.O.F. and a charter member of the Wolsey Encampment Jan. 18, 1854." I am seeking his descendants and thank you for your help.
