Hi There, I was wondering if anyone might be researching the Smith and Kneopper families in Floyd and Perry Counties in Indiana. Any help would be appreciated. Perhaps we can share information? In any event, here is my connection to the Smith family. Here is the family, according to the 1850 US Census for New Albany in Floyd County.... Martin Smith 70 years old Born in Germany Mary 62 years old Born in Germany Parmelia (?) 30 years old " Barbary (?) 28 years old " Lewis 28 years old " William 26 years old " Samuel 24 years old Born in Indiana Elizabeth 21 years old " My great-great grandmother was Elizabeth and she was born November 10, 1826 to Martin Smith and Mary Meyer in New Albany, Floyd County. She married William Knopper (Kneopper, Knoepper) on December 3 1856. C. Mayer performed the service in (The licence was issued on December 1, 1856.) They eventually became farmers near Dodd in Perry County. She died on June 1, 1908 in Tobin Twp in Perry County, and was buried in St. Peter's Cemetary. Their children were Martin, Mary, Catherine (Katie), Anna, Frederick, John, and Susan. Her husband William Kneopper was born on October 20, 1820 in Alsace-Lorraine and came with his parents to the US as a child through New Orealeans. He died on May 5, 1879 and is also buried in St. Peters. Well, what do you think? Is there a connection? I look forward in hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time and effort.
