    3. Gloria and the KENTUCKIANA group: You may be interested to know that several of the surnames you inquired about are found in the newly-published Bicentennial History of Stony Point Christian Church (formerly "Silver Creek Baptist Church"), organized 11/22/1798; to-wit: Lydia Nugent, Mary Jane Nugent, Claburn (Clayburn) J. Nugent and his wife Susan (Lister) Nugent, Jefferson L. Nugent, George W. Nugent, Rebecca M. Nugent, Jonathan J. Nugent, Sarah Ann Nugent (Koons), Thomas Nugent, T. C. Nugent, J. C. Nugent, John C. Nugent, John Neugent, Sister Liddy Newgent, C. J. Newgent, Thomas Newgent, J. J. Newgent, Mary Ann Newgent, Clabourn J. Newgent, Thomas Newgent, Jonathan Newgent Elizabeth Adkins, Sary Adkins, Sara Adkins, Ida Trealor (Adkins) Josiah Akin, Rebecca Akin (formally Rebecca May) [can't say if these AKINs are simply a variant spelling of ADKINS; figured I'd include them just in case]. Most of the above are references in the minutes to these individuals joining or leaving the church or holding office within the church. The first reference to the surname NUGENT is on a membership roll in 1806. The last reference was in 1877. Most of these surnames can also be found in the 1885 and 1886 articles by William McCoy, published in the National Democrat newspaper. Both articles (proofread against the original), as well as the 1923 speech by Mrs. Cogswell, can be found in the Stony Point book but the text is also available on the Clark County USGENWEB site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inclark/clark.htm The surname TODD is mentioned only once and it is in the following excerpt from the church record, which may offer some clue for you: 12/27/1823 -- The record for this date gives this query: "Is it consistent with gospel order for any member of a church, in common cases, to sue at law a brother or sister of his own church, or of a sister church, previous to bringing the same before the church? Answer: The church says not." It was then represented to the church that a member of Hebron Church had sued at law a member of this church. The church then directed the clerk to write a letter to the said Hebron Church, informing her of the circumstances, and sent brothers William and David Gray, to bear the same. A letter was also sent to Union Church inquiring about an apparent difficulty in said church and sent Brethren Isaac Worrall, A. Richardson, David Drummond and Jonah Harris to bear same. The Church agreed with Bro. A. Richardson that he pay to Thomas Todd $13.00 in pork at the meeting house and directed the Deacons to pay him $2.00 for cost. Don't know if any of this might apply to your search for ADKINS, NUGENTs and TODDs in Clark County, but I thought I'd share it with you.
