Mr. Payne, I just today discovered one of my Robinsons living in a Payne household on the 1850 Hardin County census. This is much later than the James and Elizabeth you're looking for, so I looked up the Paynes in a book I have at home on Hardin County. There is a long section on Colonel James B. Payne, b. 1834 in Fayette Co., came to Hardin Co. in the late 1840's, and on his family; also a section on the Colonel James B. Payne mansion in Elizabethtown; then a section on Professor John N. Payne, b. 1832 in Mercer County, principal of the Elizabethtown public school in Hardin County, but whose father Robert came from Virginia to Lexington, KY when he was a boy. Let me know if this is of much interest to you. Linda K.
