Does anyone have any info on a PERDELIA PRATHER, first wife of John James LEACH (Clark Co., Indiana)? The 4/20/1998 Jeffersonville Evening News ran an old (1909) obituary for John James LEACH, "son of Mr. and Mrs. Bowman Leach", born "near Sellersburg on September 8, 1833", who died at age 76 (which would have been approximately 1909). This obituary and another for a Charles B. GILMOUR (1854-1909) were printed in today's newspaper, apparently as filler. The article identifies John James LEACH as being first married to "Miss Perdelia PRATHER who died after a brief married life, leaving one son, Albert LEACH of Indianapolis. A few years later, 51 years prior [circa 1858], Mr. LEACH was married to Mrs. Martha Ann HOPWOOD, who survives him though in poor health for the past few years." Does anyone have any clues on this one? My Clark County PRATHER records show only one Perdelia PRATHER (great-granddaughter of Basil William PRATHER), who died in either 1835 or 1855, born 1835, but she is buried at New Chapel Cemetery, listed with the surname PRATHER, which makes me believe she died as an infant in 1835 or as an unmarried woman of 20 in 1855 or had married into the PRATHER family before her death at age 20.
