I am looking for information on my great great grandfather Francis A. Nicholson who was born in Clark Co. Indiana in about 1843. He died in Nashville Tn. in 1865. I have no information on his parents other than the information on his enlistment papers for the Civil War. His wife was also born in this area. Her name was Mary Ann Bates. I do not know her parents names but various Bates testified so that she could get money for her children after the war. The Bates names associated with her were William, Elizabeth, and Abibail. She was married in Edgar Co. Illinois and lived their until after her husband died. She then move to Coles Co. Illinois. I am assuming to be closer to her family. I realized that it is possible they were just passing through Indiana on the way to Illinois. Any help with the Indiana connection would be appreciated. Thanks Suzanne Nichelson nichels@noblenet.org
