I would like to hear this answer, also. One of my relatives was listed in an Indiana paper (in his mother's obituary) as "the well-known Louisville policeman" at about the same time frame as akacejay asks about. I have relatives that I've been told were Louisville City policemen. One of them, JAMES A. MAPLES is listed in the City directory as POLICE for the years of 1917-1920. I've been told that he lost an eye in the line of duty. In 1921 and from there on, he is listed at jobs other than POLICE. I'm interested to know if there may have been an article to the incident, an exact date of the incident or anything else relating to his police records. The other one, J. LUTHER MAPLES is listed as POLICE on the 1919-1923 directories. Any and all help or suggestions are gratefully excepted and appreciated. Carole in CA
I hope the gentelman won't mind me giving you his phone number in Louisville, Ky. He is a former policman named Capt Mort Childress of Louisville, Ky. He is writing a book on the police department and maybe he can answer your question or tell you who you need to talk with. I do not have the area code for Louisville but his phone number is 574-7682. Be real nice please since he does not know I'm giving his phone number out. Of course this some five years ago but hopefully he is still there. He was able to help me with a Uncle who was a policeman in the 1800's. Hope this helps. Eileen I would like to hear this answer, also.
