Jan: Regarding all Fed. Census up to 1840 show only the head of the house name, then shows number of males, females, etc. The 1850 Census is where the other family members start to be listed. I went to the GenWeb Site for Hardin County and went to the archives that listed Census info. I did not see the name Duffee on the 1840 Census index, but I did see it on the 1850 index. These are just index lists and of course there could be errors. You might want to check this info out: http://members.evansville.net/mylines/hardin.html This is the home page for Hardin Co.-just click on the Archives. There is all sorts of info. there, much of it one surname related. But I noticed on the first page, if you scroll down, there is a mention that the boundaries of the county shifted over the years. There are clickable links to other counties you might try. Good Luck, Carole V. Beringer
