Genealogy libraries have records of who received pensions from the Civil War, but the full records are available only from NARA. I recently waited for over four months for my great-grandfather's records. Because the Department of Interior first denied my great-grandmother's widow's pension and she had to appeal, I got 298 pages, including pages & pages of personal depositions for $33 & postage. It was well worth the wait.
