My husband's grandfather was Samuel Smith, possible middle initial G. He appears with his wife and two daughters in the 1930 census as age 74, living in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Christina (Herget), and daughters Selma and Beatrice. He was a baker, and the census shows his occupation as pastry chef in a restaurant. He was not a veteran. Even though he lived most of his life in Pittsburgh, he was born in or near Winchester, KY. Family lore has always said he was an orphan of the Civil War, taken to live in PA by an uncle after (we assume) either his parents had passed away or other relatives couldn't care for him. So far I haven't located a family in the Winchester area with a son that would fit his description. My brick wall: which Smith family in KY did he belong to? Any information would be appreciated.
