Stumbling Block - Brick wall - Most Wanted - Major Mystery - any and all terms fit. Looking for information regarding a Mary CHAMBERLIN b about 1857 in Clark Co. and died 1941 in Louisville, KY. Mary's parents were John CHAMBERLIN and Elizabeth SMITH. If what I have been able to piece together is correct she may have been married to Oswald KELMEL. Oswald is the son of John KELMEL and Amelia NOLD, my 2Ggrandparents, who came to Carr Twp, Clark Co., IN about 1857. Oswald was born in Oetigheim, Baden, Germany in 1848 and possibly died in 1884 as a result of drowning in the Ohio River. There is a death notice in a newspaper in Indiana stating that an URWALT KELMER died in a drowning accident along with his father-in-law John CHAMBERLIN. Presumably Mary and Oswald married about 1881-82, place unknown. I have been unable to find Oswald in the 1880 census. In the 1900 census in Franklin Twp, Floyd Co., IN there is an Amelia KELMEL (1883-1974) living with Alexander STRONG and his wife Mary and 3 more children. In 1910 Alexander and Mary are in Louisville, KY and Amelia is also in Jefferson Co., KY married to George MILLER (1882-1944). George and Amelia are buried in Floyd Co., IN in the Antioch Church cemetery. Mary, Alexander and Amelia died in Louisville, KY and found their death information on KY GenWeb. A cousin in Clark Co. also found the obituaries for Mary and Alexander. Unknowns: 1) marriage date and place for Mary and Oswald/Urwalt; 2) marriage date and place for Mary and Alexander; 3) marriage date and place for Amelia Kelmel and George Miller; 4) is this my missing Oswald Kelmel. I may be way off base, and wouldn't be the first time, but what makes me feel like it's possible is the daughter's name - Amelia, which is the same as Oswald's mot her. The Kelmel's attended St. Joseph on the Hill Catholic Church and there is no record of marriage or death for Oswald there and no birth record for Amelia, as there are for the others. Thank you for reading my mystery. I live in Missouri and need to make a visit to Louisville to check their records, but may be spring before that is accomplished.
