    3. The Selective Service Act was passed on 18 May 1917. As a result of this act, every male between the ages of eighteen and forty-five who lived in the United States, regardless of their U.S. citizenship status, was required to register for the draft. Some who served in the war did not register for the draft and not all the men who registered actually served in the armed forces. I have extracted the birth dates, race (if noted) and birth state (if noted) for over 1,000 Scott County men who registered for the draft during 1917 and 1918. This information was self-reported. I've attempted to do the best I can in deciphering the handwriting. The spelling of names is as the person or agent signed their card. (Even if it looks improbable and in some cases it does! *LOL*) SELF REPORTED BIRTHS FROM WWI DRAFT REGISTRATION CARDS http://www.rootsweb.com/~inscott/WWIDraftRegBirths.html
