Hi Judy, Thanks for your generous offer to do lookups in the above named book! My ancestors were the GRIFFINs who came from MD to Nelson Co., KY in the late 1790's. They 1st show up in the 1830 Daviess Co., KY census. I'm not sure of the history and don't know if they physically moved from Nelson Co. or if the county boundaries moved around them. Greenbury GRIFFIN was born about 1774 in MD. He was a school teacher in Nelson Co. He married Nancy STONE, d/o Spilsby STONE of VA in 1805. They had at least the following children--there may have been more: Maria/Mariah b. 1806-- (listed as 'deaf and dumb' in 1870 Daviess Co. KY census) James b. 1807 Thomas b. ? Elijah b. 1810 Margaret b. 1820 Winny A. b. 1825 John W. b. 1827 Here are the 1830 and 1840 census entries for Greenbury and family: 1830 Daviess Co. KY page 195 Greenbury Griffen, 1 male 50 to 60, 2 male 20 to 30, 1 male 15 to 20, 1 male under 5. 1 female 40 to 50, 1 female 15 to 20 1 female 10 to 15, 2 female 5 to 10. 1840 Daviess Co. KY Census page 20 Greenbury Griffen, 1 male 60 to 70, 1 male 10 to 15. 1 female 15 to 20, 1 female 20 to 30, 1 female 30 to 40, 1 female 50 to 60. Greenbury died 11 Apr 1847 in Daviess Co. He may have had a relative named Jesse GRIFFIN (both were witnesses on a will in 1804 in Nelson Co., KY). This is about all the info I have. It would be much appreciated if you have time to search for any of these names in the 1800 History of Daviess County, KY book! Thanks again! Terri [email protected] Livermore, CA
