My great aunt, Katherine Ludwig (born 1875 in Indiana), married a Leopold (given name unknown) in Meade County (or one of the surrounding counties) in c. 1895. They had one daughter, Annette Leopold, born in Tell City, Indiana in 1896. The parents divorced or were separated shortly afterward. I have been searching for a marriage license for Ludwig and Leopold for years. Can anyone help me? Any suggestions or answers would be much appreciated. Thanks. Cal Knobeloch

>>I found a 14 yo Samuel Smith living in Pittsburgh's fourteenth ward in Allegheny Co, PA in 1870. He was born in KY and working at the rolling mill. He lived with Charles (a painter) and Mary Ramey. My own orphaned relatives often lived in boarding situations or stayed with relatives (wherever they could find space) until they were old enough to work. Don't know if this helps. Mary >> Hi, Mary. Yes, this is our favorite candidate for our Samuel. We also found him at a later date, but haven't yet connected him with a Ky family. It was nice of you to go to the trouble to look for him. Hello Listers, Here's my Kentuckiana area brick wall, with an additional question or two: I'm searching for the parents of two brothers who lived in Louisville. They were William S. and David CRULL. Here's what I know: BROTHER #1 William S. CRULL was born in Pennsylvania in about 1810-1814. He moved to Louisville in about 1835 and there married Mary AMOSS in September 1835. He was a carpenter and appeared in several City Directories between 1836 and 1848. He apparently died in 1848, leaving a widow and five children: John R. (b 1836); William Henry (b 1838); Ann (b 1840); David (b 1842) and Nelson D. (b 1846). Exactly where and when he died is not known. BROTHER #2 David CRULL was born in Ohio in 1824. He appears to have moved to Louisville about 1835 with his mother and older brother, William S. above. David married Julia Ann ROBINSON in 1842. David was a plasterer. David and Julia Ann had at least three children (James, born 1843; Virginia born 1848; Arthur born 1856). Julia died 2 July 1860 and David remarried Christine HAMMON (or HANNON?) in 1862. They had one son, Frank, born 1863. David died in Louisville in August 1888. He is buried in Cave Hill Cemetery. THEIR MOTHER The mother of both William S. and David Crull was Mary _____ CRULL, born about 1785 in Pennsylvania. She was probably the woman aged 50-60 in the William S. Crull household in Louisville in the 1840 Census; she was almost undoubtedly the "Mary Crull, aged 60, born PA" in David Crull's household in Madison City, Jefferson Co., INDIANA in the 1850 Census. She is also pretty likely the "Mary Crull" aged "80" buried in Eastern Cemetery, Louisville in Dec. 1862. So, who was their father? It is possible that they were related to the Crulls of Scioto Co., OH, (naming patterns and a couple of possible neighbors suggest a connection), but they don't really fit into any of the documented families. Any ideas? OTHER QUESTIONS Anyone know of a CRULL/LICKLEITER (+ many other spellings) connection? I've got a Jacob Lichleiter as a witness for the marriage of William Henry CRULL to Nancy Jane (Annie/Nannie) MAYHEW in Louisville in 1864 and in 1873 Allwilda LICKLYTER married one Anthony CRULL in Jefferson Co. Ind. Does any of this ring any bells? Thank you for your patience. Happy (Ancestor) Hunting! Alison K. Douglas
Forwarded by list administrator. Respond to Margaret and list! ------ Forwarded Message From: Marg <eeyoresan@comcast.net> Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 21:50:47 -0600 To: KENTUCKIANA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: {not a subscriber} Harman/Harmon, Ockerman My great-great-grandfather was John Harman, born in Ireland between 1842-1852. In 1867 he married Mary Rogers (also an immigrant from Ireland) in Woodford Co, KY. They had 5 children, including Michael Lewis Harmon b.1871, d.1934 (note the spelling change on the surname), who was my great-grandfather. Mike married Hallie Mae Hackney. They both were born, lived, and died in Woodford Co, KY. Their sons were Everett (whose wife was always called Mary French, but I know nothing about her) and John Ernest(my grandfather) b.1909, who married Clarine Ockerman of Nicholas Co, KY. I have NOT been able to establish when John and Mary came over from Ireland, ship name, port of entry, etc. The names are too common and I don't know which area of Ireland they were born in, or the names of parents or siblings. I realize this is a long shot, but if this rings any bells I would be grateful for information or suggestions. Of the Ockermans, I have traced them back to Daniel Ockerman, b. 1764 in Pennsylvania, d. 1842 in Highland Co, Ohio. I believe the family came from Germany along the O(c)ker River, as part of the big Palatine emigration. There are apparently 4 genetic lines of Ocker-folk, or Ocker-men as they were called; one line came from the Isle of Oker in Sweden; the other 3 lines are German or Swiss in origin. Daniel was a Dunkard (German Brethren) minister, believed to have been in Rowan County, NC during 1790's, moved through Craven County, NC on the way to East Union, (Hinkston Creek), Nicholas County, KY. Lived in the area of Bath/Nicholas County, KY until around 1812 when moved to Highland County, OH. There were three lines of Ockermans around Bath, Nicholas, KY. I would love to find proof of Daniel's immigration, such as ship passenger list, etc. Many thanks for reading! My soldier was also listed as a deserter but he was ill and in the Army Hospital. I sent for his Pension Records an absolute must! There I found all there was to know about JOHN C. HOBSON. When the soldier dies the wife has to give very pertinent information to prove she was married to the solider to get his pension of $12.00 and there you will find her maiden name. If he out lived her there should still be info. on her because they ask the solider if he married, when he married and if he has children. It use to take several months to get the Civil War Records and I'm sure the price has increased but the info is well worth it. Better order fast! I am looking for any information on the Hostetler family. Father Christian and son Jonas were in KY before moving to IN. If there would be any other Hostetler (Hostettler) (Huffstetler) and so on, the information would be greatly appreciated. Everything I have found so far seems to come from the Mt. Eden area. I have been ask about the Indians in the KY area and if a Hostetler could have married into one of the tribes. I have been trying to find this information for at least the last 4 years and can't come up with anything. Thanks Janice Hostetler janice99@gte.net
My husband's grandfather was Samuel Smith, possible middle initial G. He appears with his wife and two daughters in the 1930 census as age 74, living in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Christina (Herget), and daughters Selma and Beatrice. He was a baker, and the census shows his occupation as pastry chef in a restaurant. He was not a veteran. Even though he lived most of his life in Pittsburgh, he was born in or near Winchester, KY. Family lore has always said he was an orphan of the Civil War, taken to live in PA by an uncle after (we assume) either his parents had passed away or other relatives couldn't care for him. So far I haven't located a family in the Winchester area with a son that would fit his description. My brick wall: which Smith family in KY did he belong to? Any information would be appreciated.
The cemeteries listed for Breckinridge Co., KY include Hudson Cemetery #1, #2 and #3. Can anyone give me specific locations for each of these? Thanks for any help you can give.
