Lee, If the husband was killed in the Civil War, have you checked to see whether anyone applied for a pension on his name? Pension applications can contain a lot of good facts. I can use all the help I can get finding this family. These people give new meaning to the term - Brick Wall! My grandfather - Andrew Phillips - suddenly appeared on this earth about 1865 at the age of 10. I don't really know where he came from or who his parents were. Great Great Grandfather John is my most wanted. Born OH 1809. Evidence upon death stated he spent time in KY what was considered Breckenridge co in 1857. JAMES INGRAM In DAR papers for this man's father (Andrew Ingram), a statement from Bertha Amacher (James' great grandaughter) stated she found a marble top from an antique chest of drawers or dresser among the sprouts of the poplars on her grandfather George's old property. Bertha said she felt she was just drawn to that particular spot. After cleaning it she found this carved on the back of the marble slab. J.I. b 1787 TN. Died 1850 KY Susannah d 1846 (George's 1st wife) Mary A. d 1856 (George's 2nd wife) Nancy J. d 1873 (George's 3rd wife-our line) Amos d 1865 (one of George's kids) Eli d 1858 (one of George's kids) I did find a James Ingrum in the U. S. Mortality Schedule 1850-1885 in Clinton Co., Il. Dist. 68. This man also appears in the 1850 Fed. Census in the same District and State next to George Engrum. I have written to Springfield, Ill. In hopes of finding a filing number or Certificate number in order to track down a death certificate - no luck. Dist. 68 takes up a lot of the state. George Engrum and James lived next to each other in Clinton Co., Il. in the August, 1850 Federal Census. I know this is our George(James' boy) by the wife name and children. It sure looks like George's father, James next door living with "War" - was that a nickname for WARREN? James is 70 years old. Our James was 68 - but census takers make mistakes all the time. Since I can find only one James - was the bible entry a mistake? WAR was 25 born in Kentucky. Assume his wife was Lucinda 23 born Illinois. The children were all girls: Matilda 8, Nancy 6 and Dicey(?) 2 yrs. There is the following from the Ingram/Miller bible: James Ingram Mary Lee Mar. 1807 Hawkins Co., TN. The bible was very fragile. Did the transcriber correctly read the year? Bertha also reported another family for James. If there is two James Ingram's living in Hawkins County, TN. at the same time - why can I find only papers on the James Ingram that married Nancy Miller? James and Nancy were given 99 acres of land by her father in December of 1801. The only land transactions I found in Hawkins County pertaining to James Ingram were totally involved with the Miller's. There is no mention of James Ingram marrying a Nancy Miller in the Miller/Ingram bible. This would have been about 1801 in order for them to receive land from Peter Miller (Nancy's father) in 1801. They had a boy named Miller born before 1803. Could the bible birth date for James be incorrect? For example: Could the number 2 have been so faded the transcriber thought it read 7? Then this would make James a father at 19. The Miller/Ingram bible states only that James Ingram married Mary Lee 1807 in Hawkins Co., TN. Perhaps to save time Dr. George Ingram listed only his very direct line and not mentioned other marriages and children. 24/25? DEC 1801 - Hawkins County, TN. Book 6 Pg. 29-30. Peter Miller gave 99 acres to his daughter Nancy and husband James Ingram. James Charles and John Kepler were witnesses. These witnesses were Peter's son-in-laws. In 1802 Peter Miller gave to John Kepler (husband of Peter's daughter Syble) 112 Acres. James Charles and James Ingram were witnesses. In the Hawkins County Records Book 6, 29 OCT 1803, Page 29 &30 a Peter Miller "for and in consideration of the natural affection which I have for my dauter Nancy Ingram, wife of James Ingram, hath given and by these present doth give an grant to the said James Ingram and his heirs forever a certain tract of parcel of land lying in the, etc.etc." In 1803 Peter Miller gave his "dather" Darky and her husband John Charles 89 acres. James Ingram and John Kepler were witnesses. 12 JAN 1805 - Hawkins County, TN. Book 4 Pg. 109. James sold these 99 acres he got from his father-in-law (Peter Miller) to his brother-in-law (Nancy's brother) John Miller. The witness was Wm. Gillenwaters. From a Will Book in Hawkins Co, Tennessee we find Peter Miller's will dated 31 January 1809. "My beloved wife Polly Miller.. my daughters Sally Lockmiller, Polly Buram, Darky Charles, Nancy Ingram and Ebby Kepler...my son John Miller..my two grandsons Pitzer Buram and Miller Ingram...My beloved son, Jacob Miller, the land where I now live and the island in the Holston River. My brother-in-law John Howel, and my son, Jacob to be my executors. Pages 337-338. Witnesses: J. Hagood, John Francisco, George Johnston, Charles Hooks, James Francisco. Little note here: Miller Ingram married a Rebecca Hagood. Her father was James Hagood. Miller and Rebecca Hagood's first male child's name was Jacob. Peter Millers' father was named Jacob. Sound�s like Nancy is still alive in the wording of Peter's will. James and Mary Lee were married about 1807 in Hawkins County, TN. Bertha reported Mary Lee was the daughter of John Lee. Per the first land deed to James' father (Andrew) - the Lee's were neighbors. Neighbor John Lee's daughter Mary did not marry a James Ingram. Capt. Thomas Lee had a wife Mary Ingram. Mary was the daughter of Richard Ingram. Thomas and Mary Lee did have a daughter Mary but this Mary did not marry a James Ingram. They all lived in Hawkins Co., TN. Nearly all of the 1810 Tennessee Census was destroyed many years ago in a Washington, D. C. warehouse accident. I have a book "The Reconstructed 1810 Census of Tennessee" by Charles A. Sherrill. The initial object of the book was to recreate a tax list of this time frame for each county. Where those were not available court minutes, deeds and other records were consulted. In this book, there is NO mention of any James Ingram. 7 FEB 1810 - Hawkins Co., TN. Book 8 Pg. 222. John Graybeal and wife Elizabeth sold 80 acres to James-price $300. This land that was given to John Graybeal by Nancy's brother Jacob. Jacob gave it to John Graybeal- who was his son-in-law, husband to his daughter, Elizabeth. James and Mary's first three children were born in Tennessee (from 1808 to 1812)but daughter, Mary Lee Ingram, was born 1815 in KY. The line we come from, their son George, was born 1817 in Kentucky. Did George's mom, Mary die in childbirth? Her year of death in the bible indicates she died in 1817. In the papers that Bertha submitted to the DAR to prove she was eligible for membership - she wrote that James died 1850 in KY "and 1st wife". What does this mean? Sounds like James still keep the Millers as good friends. A land transaction in the "Jeffersonville Land entries 1808-1818" described as: SE S22 T07 N11E 160 acres, on 12 JUN 1816 - A James Ingram purchased land that per the Jeffersonville, IN. Clark County Surveyors office - is located in Boone Co., KY. 28 Oct. 1816 - a James Ingram, Jr. married a Nancy Austin in Jefferson County, Kentucky. This man died 1827 - so not our James. In the 1816 Breckinridge County tax list there is a James Ingram, white, male over 21: Five mares, mules, etc. and in the 1819 Breckinridge County Tax list: 1 white male over 21. One mare, mules, etc. No James Ingram after 1819. 20 APR 1818 - Hawkins Co., TN. Book 10 Pg. 93. James hired John Miller (Nancy's brother) to sell the above "Graybeal" acres. James was living in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Witness was Miller Ingram. Was this Miller James' 16/18-year-old son?? I obtained an "Ingram's in Kentucky Census Index 1800-1870". There is no James Ingram in Breckinridge Co., KY. In fact, the county is not mentioned at all. A county clerk also checked, no James Ingram in Breckinridge County. There are no Breckinridge County birth records before 1852. Per the Hawkins Co., TN. Records Book 10 Pg. 93, 20 Apr. 1818 James appointed John Miller "true and lawful attorney for me and in my name" - Miller Ingram was witness to the paperwork. Miller would be about 17 years old. This land was in Hawkins Co., TN. and James was listed as living in Breckinridge Co., Ky. But I can�t find him in the census or on tax lists. 22 AUG 1819 a James L. Ingram married a Barbara Quick in Breckinridge County, KY. (Our James?) His name was spelled Ingraix! Bond was by Andrew Quick and the JP was Samuel Allen. The James Ingram in the Boone County, Kentucky Federal Census for 1820 is living next to an Andrew Quick. James' mother, Nancy, died in 1818 and in 1819 his dad, Andrew, moved to Indiana with the rest of James' brothers and sisters or joined the older brothers and sisters already in Indiana. 1820 Fed. Census: James Ingram's in: Boone, Hardin and Wayne County, KY. The James in the Wayne County Census is the only one in the 30-40 age group. One male 5 yrs., 1 male 60-70 and one male 80-90. If I am reading the census correctly. 28 FEB 1823 - Hawkins Co., TN. Book 11 Pg. 130. James sold 34 acres to Charlie Miller for $100. Nancy had a nephew named Charles Miller that was the son of John Miller (the man hired to sell this 80 acres of land.) James was living in Breckinridge County, KY. 20 Sept. 1827 - Hawkins Co., TN. Book 13 Pg. 267. James sold the last 44 acres of the land for $100 to Elisha Morris. This was land James got from John Graybeal for $300. James is living in Breckinridge County, KY. 1830 Census: James Ingram's in: Bath, Boone, Calloway, and Wayne Co., KY. Again, I can't find James living in Breckinridge County, KY. Did our James move to Parke Co., IN. in 1830 - live next to his brother Andrew, Sr.? Parke Co., Indiana is real close to Edgar County, IL. where most of the rest of the family were living in 1820. Both age brackets are: Andrew: 1 male under 5, 1 male 10-15, two 20-30 and one male in the 40-50 bracket. Females: Two 10-15, two 15- 20 and one 40-50. James: One male 5-10, one 10-15, one 50- 60. (Our James would have been 48.) Females: Two under 5, one 5 under 10, one 10 under 15 and one 30 under 40. This would make James born abt. 1780. Andrew has 10 in the family; James has 8 in the family. In George's (James' son) writing in the Miller/Ingram bible he states: I came to Edgar 1833 underneath is written: Effingham Co., Il. 1839. So did James move to Indiana when George was 16 with the family?? George would have been the 10-15 male in the 1830 Parke Co., Ind. Census. 1 AUG 1839 - Miller purchased land in Jefferson County, KY. The town of register was Jeffersonville. (investigate - did he buy father's land?) 1840 Census: 2 James' in Bath Co., KY. One in E. Slate Creek one in W. Slate Creek. One under 40, one under 30. In the same census there is a James in Calloway and one in Muhlenberg. I know the one is Mulhenberg is not our James (he is too young for our Old James and too old for James son.) In the 1840 Indiana Fed. Census for LaPorte County (no township listed) on page 106 there is a James Ingram and a George Ingram. George did marry 3 of his 4 wives in Edgar Co., IL. In this census George had only one female between 20-30 marked and for James Ingram one male 20-30. Looks like the census taker was in a hurry! He didn't mark everyone down in the household. BUT could have been George's brother, James born in 1816. Same year, same State, but in Putnam County, Jefferson Twp. Pg. 366 there is a James Ingram. This had a male between 50-60 (could be a fit), one male between 20-30 and one male between 15-20. One female between 15-20 and one female between 10-15. (am investigating) Same year, same State, but in Warrick County, Skelton Twp. Pg. 39 there is a James Ingram. This James was between 40-50. He had 2 males under 5, 1 male between 5-10. Three females: Two between 5-10 yrs. , one between 15-20 yrs. and one 20-30 yrs. Three other Ingram's on that page. A Hansel Ingram (next door) between 30-40 yrs., Jonathan Ingram (40-50 yrs) and Samuel Ingram (50-60 yrs). 1850 Census: One James in Cedar, two James in Bath, one in Bracken, Warren and Wayne Co., KY. One of the James's in Bath Co., Ky was listed as insane but has a lot of our Ingram names in his children. This is a lot of information for not knowing where this guys is buried and all his children's names and how many wives he had. Any help is appreicated. Hi to all, I have two Wallis's that I am in search of in Trigg and Graves county. Rosa Wallis born 1880 I have no idea what happened to her and nor does anyone in the family. Rosa is the daughter of James and Nancy Wallis and had one older brother and younger brothers and sister. Then before 1900 in between the the other siblings there was another Wallis born to James and Nancy which is unknown I only know the child existed Their children are listed as follows James and Nancy: 1.) Ginny Durham, NC My biggest brick wall is my grandfather, Edward Preston Wilson. He might have been born in Louisville. His birthday was on September 4, 1876. He had relatives in Owensboro, however the only relative I know was his next of kin on his WWI draft registration who was William H. Wilson of Owensboro. The only William H. Wilson I have found in Owensboro was a batchelor. William's brother, Joseph A. Wilson, lived in Louisville. Joseph doesn't seem to have had any children. Aaron Stout was married to Sarah "Sally" Shannon, daughter of Samuel Shannon and Mary Ann Gilliland on 25 Dec 1820 bu rev. Henson Hobbs in Jefferson Co. KY. Who were Aaron's parents? He was born ca 1790-1800. Henson Hobbs was pastor of Long Run Baptist Church which was along the border between Jefferson and Shelby Counties. Aaron and Sarah lived in Floyd, Clark, Morgan and Jackson Counties in Indiana. Aaron drowned in Jackson Co. before 1850 so there is nothing definitive about where he was born. His children gave a variety of locations in the census records. My DNA is only distance 1 from a known descendant of Richard and Penelope Stout of NJ. I also have not established who Samuel Shannon's parents were. I believe he and Mary were married in Butler Co. PA where she was living with her mother in 1800. Ted Stout

Mary Miller, daughter of Henry & Phoebe (--?--) Miller, was born about 1777 in Virginia, and married, about 1797, Ansel Hyde. Ansel and Mary moved to Perry County, Indiana, before 1810. I have found Henry Miller (as well as several other Millers) in tax records for Breckinridge County, and would like to know if he was related to any of the other Millers. Who were Henry's parents? Most Wanted ,Deeply missed, Joseph L. Bridgewater d. 1901 OK, Give em up, somebody has to have this poor young man, 33 years old and father of five young children, in their care! His youngest baby girl, Elsie Bridgewater, was born 24 Nov 1901. He died in 1901, maybe her birth certificate will yield the info I need. Does anyone have her birth cert. from Wash. or Scott Co. IN. She died 19 Aug 1950, Mrs. Elsie (Bridgewater) Daugherty of West Union, IL. Her obit. says nothing about her Pa. He's been missing 103 years. Let's help Joseph get back to his children.
